The Official Psychedelic Rock Thread v. Interstellar Overdrive

ya haha hendrix is beast. My favirites are bold as love, third stone from the sun and gotta agree with 1983 a merman i shall turn to be. Other than hendrix ive been getting into mgmt alot and infected mushroom wich is trance music not psycadellic rock but its really different.

King Crimson for sure... Lizard and Larks Tongues in Aspic feel drenched in acid, though I'm willing to bet Robert Fripp (KC's frontman) would probably disagree.

Pink Floyd of course... Atom Heart Mother always sounded like an acid trip from start to finish to me... and Meddle makes a great bad trip soundtrack.

Arthur Browns Kingdom Come
almost electronic, but made in the early seventies. Very good music

I love the Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come! Both so different yet both so brilliant. Dad saw him live apparently and until youtube thought he'd never be able to hear Kingdom Come again haha

I consider pyschedelic rock to mean both the sound of the music and the lyrics. I vote for King Crimson(yes they are also prog) ...listen to the lyrics on the Lizard album( if you have any understanding of psychedelics) and tell me their lyrics aren't fan-fuckin-tastic.

I need psychcedelic rock bands!

I've came across a song called "You Can't Erase a Mirror" by "Children of the Mushroom." I like it very much and want psychedelic rock bands with a similar sound.
Thanks :)

Ummm, have you ever heard of The Doors? lol

Other than that I'd say check out older Pink Floyd, like The Piper at the Gates of Dawn and A Saucerful of Secrets and Jefferson Airplane. Basically every late 60's early 70's psychedelic rock band sounded like that, or had songs that sounded like that in one way or another.

Edit: Haha, beat me to it, just barely.

Check out Quicksilver Messenger Service. I'm a huge fan of the album "Happy Trails". Their first album is pretty sweet, too. It's a bit more song-y I guess.

And if you want psychedelic rock at its most primal, check out Grateful Dead shows from 1967 to 1969. Beastly psychedelia, teeth man, music with teeth. The album "Anthem of the Sun" captures some of that too but you're much better off finding live shows here.

If you want some awesome older stuff, check out Ash Ra Tempel- space rock, pretty heavy, trippy, also Night Sun...Can is another cool group, as well as The Cosmic Jokers (all described as Krautrock though generally quite psychedelic too)

Maybe Hawkwind too, mainly their early stuff, The Jefferson Airplane, etc...
