the official 'pets and drugs' thread

My friend's cat used to steal his weed, hide it away, and then eat it at a later time. We found a bunch of tore up dimebags when I helped him move - hidden under the couch, the dresser, the TV stand ...

No wonder that cat is always so mellow. ;)

One of my cats loves to get high with me. She'll sit on my chest and let me blow smoke in her face and purr. XD My other cat doesn't like it at all, and runs out of the room as soon as I light my bowl.

my cousin's friend put a kitten in a paper bag and blew smoke into the bag and its body never really grew much, just the head, so it had this wierd big head. they called it "yodacat". fucked up shit. i would never do that. i do, however, occasionally get my rats stoned... and they get crazy and run around the bed and nip at me

My cat used to go into my greenhouse and eat all of the chlorotic shade leaves off of the bottom of the plants... he'd then roll around and rub up against the plants and at harvest I'd have to pull little balls of fur off of the bottomlying buds.

"BTW, cannabis isn't so benign for dogs. [..]C annabichromene really badly effects a dogs sense of balance, to the point where it can make them quite ill[..]; they can fall over and hurt themselves."
Yeah, a mate of mine once made a giant chocolate hash cake, they ate about 2/5ths of it, got monumentally fucked, and passed out... when they woke up, their little Jack Russel Terrier (mischievious geniuses that they are) had decided to eat the remaining 3/5ths... she was lying on the floor for two weeks occasionally making that heartwrenching dog-whimper sound. They had to carry her to her water and food bowls for the entire time, and she took dumps lying on her left side. In the kitchen. She's NEVER done it again and has had ample opportunity!

You suck, and your cousin needs a good kick in the ribs.
:X

I believe that some dogs just LIKE it. other dogs dont, 1 of my dogs will always come around when me and my friends smoke up but my little lap dog chi wa wa(dont know how to spell it) doesnt so she never comes around. DONT FORCE IT. just like how some dogs will drink alcohol, i give them a choice.

unless the dog is in pain and then its a vets script your looking for.

How does the vet know that dog wants the drugs to feel better?

I think it's wrong to force a pet to get stoned, but I do belive some pets actualy like it and wan't it.

Ppl will say how do you know the pet wants or likes it. How do you know when a pet is hungry and wan't food, water or a walk, you just know. You know they like it when you scrach/pat them in that sertin spot, you just know. I think it's the same with weed, some pets like it some pets dont.

Don't force a pet to get high, but if they want it...:\

At my old house one of my roommates had a dog, she was a Lab/Husky mix, really pretty. Anyway, she really did like to get high, she would sit in the circle with us, we never blew smoke at her to intentionally get her high but she would get a contact high. I don't see anything wrong with that, the dog could have easily sat in the other room with nonsmokers but she prefered to be with the smokers. She was also a big alcoholic, we had to keep drinks up where she couldn't get to them (which was hard at parties, plus she was a big dog so she could get on the counters and stuff) she always managed to find a drink or two.

One time we did intentionally get a dog high though, we were staying at my friends house for the weekend and his grandma was out of town, we were smoking in the basement and his pomeranian came down and was barking non-stop. My friend kept taking him upstairs and he would just come back down, finally we couldn't stand his barking anymore so we put him in a carrier and blew smoke into it. He calmed down. It was the funniest thing in the world to watch my friends chase him around the basement with the box yelling "Lou, Lou, come on, here Lou, get in the box, get in the box Lou" which started out really sweet (you know how you talk to animals like they are babies) and turned into "God Damnit Lou get in the f*cking box! GET IN THE DAMN BOX LOU YOU STUPID PIECE OF SH*T!!!" From that point on he would come down and sit by us if we were smoking, he didn't bark, must have liked it.

Out of the 5 dogs I have, two love marijuana. One more than the other, hense the name Hydro :) He's a boxer and when we first bought him as a puppy we were trying to decide on a name. He always came around when we smoked, and even sits in front of you and barks if you don't blow hits his way. The same dog also got ahold of 5 grams of potent mushies one night and ate them all. I came home from a friend's house to my apartment and he had them all over the carpet.

I had 10g to start, and only had approx 5 left when I weighed what I could find on the floor. He was fine for a while, then he started crazily running around the house with a dog toy, violently throwing it around and shit. He got so violent he ripped 3 teeth out and was bleeding. I was fuckin scared because I couldn't control him. He was vomiting and hacking as well. When he finally mellowed out his eyes would slowly start to close and he had respritory problems it seemed like. I felt so guilt. I thought I'd fucking killed him or something. We just had to keep waking him up as he'd lay down or start to close his eyes. He didn't act normal for the next few days.

You people and getting your pets high... tsk tsk... I thought drugs were precious, and should be used FOR YOUR OWN CONSUMPTION! not fucking loading your pets with them.
Think more logically and be a little more responcible.

Do you still give them drugs?

One of my good friends has a one year old pitbull named Patches. When we're all passing around the ice pipe, he will actually follow it around the circle from person to person waiting for some one to blow him a hit. At times we actually have shut him up in the bathroom just so he'll leave us alone. It's crazy though to see a dog schitsin his ass off. I swear that dog has lept the entire length of the couch just cause he heard someone at the door.

I get my bunny high as fuck. I just pick the little fucker up by the ears and blow smoke forcefully into his cuddley little lungs!

I never gave him drugs, other than the marijuana and I really didn't give him any actual product. I just blew hits towards him because he obviously wanted it. He barked when I wouldn't give him hits and even bit at the smoke when he saw me and friends exhale. Sometimes he wouldn't come around until we started smoking. He got ahold of the mushies from inside a box on my kitchen counter, pushed back to intentionally try to avoid that from happening. I'll still give him hits of herb, but I'm a little more careful with other drugs now.

and i'[m sure he wouldn't follow, say, a burger or an ball or a stuffed toy or any one of 1000 other things that pique a dog's interest round the circle...

The "vet" knows the dog/animal wants the drug because it would be suffering lots of pain otherwise (post-surgery.) That's kind of a silly question/analogy.

I'm complete against giving any animal a drug, I think it's cruel whether or not you "think" they want it.

I used to work as a vet tech and I dont think the animals always want the meds, the post-op pain meds we used were injectable and sting when injected into the muscle. They have no idea whats going on and usually freak out. Cats esspecially are very good at dealing with pain and I think at times they would be much happier if we just left them alone and didnt handle them and poke them. I'm not saying they shouldn't be given the meds, but they don't really want them, its not like they know if they get the shot or pill they will feel better.

For anybody who thinks getting dogs stoned is a good/funny idea

There is one component of cannabis (cannabichromene) that is toxic to dogs. Small doses cause loss of balance and vomiting, but large doses can prove fatal. Giving cannabis to dogs is stupid and pretty much amounts to animal abuse. Dogs respond to other drugs of abuse pretty much in the same way as human, the only exeption being opiates. Dogs metabolize opiates faster than humans and therefore, on a mg/kg basis, require a slightly higher dose. That's why 'Small Animal Immobilon' (etorphine) sometimes gets used for dogs for things like dental extractions; the equivalent dose in humans would cause an OD and possibly death.

Cats respond to cannabis pretty much in the same way as humans (ie toxicity is so low that it's effectively non-toxic), but again the difference occours with opiates. In cats, opiates act as stimulants so that use of certain opiates in cats has to be done very carefully as too much causes agitation and can lead to spinal convulsions (the preferred opiate for treating severe pain in cats is pethedine/demorol as it doesn't cause the same reaction as morphine, but even so, high levels of the metabolite, norpethedine, has the same effects as it does on humans ie convulsions. Opiates also cause the agitation/stimulation effect in horses.

Unless you know something about vet. pharmacology, giving drugs to animals is tantamount to abuse.

That said, I have one cat that makes a point of seeking out cannabis and consuming it. I once had some fresh (as in straight off the plant and requiring drying) buds that had been left in a carrier bag on the kitchen table; after emerging from the shower, I found said cat with head in the carrier bag. After calling his name, he emerged with a fresh bud between his teeth, which I removed. Since then I've had to be careful not to leave any cannabis where he can get at it as he has developed a taste for the stuff. The only time I have intentionally given him any was when he was in pain after an operation on his hip and seemed in so much discomfort that he had stopped eating - tiny amounts restored his appetite, but as soon as he was eating without the aid of cannabis I stopped givin him any (about 3 days). Equally I have a cat with IBS that gets loperamide to control his gut spasms and diarrhea. I checked in a vet. pharmacology text book that it was safe before starting the treatment.

When it comes down to it, giving drugs to animals to get them stoned is irresponsible - if you want your animal to be happy, show it more attention and get it some of its favourite food; leave drugs for medical treatment of animals
