the official NCAA football thread

Non-conference matchups, I'll throw my .02 on that one as well. A lot of teams do what Tressel and Meyer have done - pick in state, but small and beatable, schools. Reason being, you are a state school, funded by tax dollars, and a lot of people don't want you paying that money to out of state schools. They'd rather see it spent on in-state programs so they can improve both from the beating experience and with the financial windfall. UF has FAU or FIU later this year, OSU picked up Kent and YSU and Akron I think. I've no problem with Texas playing TCU or Rice. The problem becomes when you've got a situation like we have in the state of Florida or California - try to find a Div I team (if possible) that you can schedule to help your ranking and keep the money in-state, but don't pick one that can beat you. Our state capital is in Tallahassee, and they passed a law requiring that we play FSU every year, so that's not an option. But having good teams in-state, that's a big reason UF dropped playing MIA on a regular basis, and why I don't think you'll see USF on our schedule anytime soon. If UCF can get their stuff together better, they may also stop getting scheduled against us - we can't afford the non-conference loss, both in the polls and in recruiting. Notice TENN dropped Memphis after losing that matchup ;) KY still pulls in WKY and such. Poor Idaho and Montana...who the hell can they pull in :o

I am curious, however, as I think schools are told their conference schedule, but allowed to fill in the gaps how they want. But I wonder if some schools try to sell themselves to a conference - as I see Troy has made the rounds with Alabama, Florida, and Georgia?

cNb - where is SOS rankings listed? I looked but couldn't find them on ESPN.

Oh, and RC - MICH is *not* the best team OSU will face this year. WISC may not be as good as advertised (who is this year?), and ILL will quickly figure out it's not used to winning and return to old ways (god love ya, zookie), but MICH is not the toughest matchup other than the rivalry aspect.

USF's schedule should not be under any scrutiny. they went into Auburn and won and beat a decent WVU team.

but did anybody see USF's coach last night? the dude looked like he was having a hernia one thousand times over.

I think Michigan will be the toughest game OSU will play all year. I understand where you are coming with Wisco, they have a solid running attack, and maybe before the season started I would have believed all the hype and said Penn State was going to be the toughest team (it is always hard to go into Happy Valley and win). but Michigan has a good offense. if not for their two losses then their RB Mike Hart would easily be leading the Heisman standings. plus, the game is at the Big House in Ann Arbor.

it may just be that growing up I have seen way too many games where the Michigan team was supposed to be invincible and they were going to demolish the Buckeyes. to only see the Buckeyes dominate and destroy Michigan's National Championship hopes and dreams.

HOLY SHIT

Auburn vs. LSU: Best football I've seen in years. The most physical game I can recall. The tigers totally gave it up with that last short kick. I have no idea what they were trying to accomplish with that, cuz is probably wasn't to let LSU start their last drive on the 45 yard line.

I was saying the same thing. Auburn basically gave LSU the game with that 15yd kick.

I really thought I was going to see UK beat FL and Auburn beat LSU. Still think the refs in that UK/UF game were a little biased, saw so many calls that should have been called against UF that weren't. Didn't care who won, but each game needs to be fair. I really just like watching good football, and that includes fair callings by the officiating crew.

Its good they beat auburn. lm not saving USF is horrible, but they play nobody. WV Plays nobody either.

Another saturday, another Ohio State victory. :D

Oh, hahahaha South Carolina losing to fuckin Vanderbilt. Who even knew they HAVE a football team?!

What is with all these teams losing to nobodys?

i can guarantee Vandy would put a hurting on kent state 10 out 0f 10 times, and be stiff competition for weak teams like MSU, Perdue, and Minnesota.

How does it feel to be king of turd mountain BA

If by "turd mountain" you mean all of college football - heavy is the head that wears the crown. ;)

Many congrats to OSU! Still undefeated.

I hope OSU keeps it up, cuz then the championship game will be a breeze for which ever SEC team makes it... again.

;)

I cant wait for Alabama LSU in 2 weeks sec west title on the line along with saban vs his former team if Bama plays like they did against Tennesee it will be a damn good game.
