I haven't heard much love this season for them dawgs, especially after they dropped a game. They certainly aren't overhyped like Michigan was in the preseason, or Louisville.

Now, wasn't tuscaloosa a good place to have gameday this week?
 
Well for who so ever that said Kentucky Ain't played anyone... I'll say this on Uk's behalf... because while I realize they don't stand much of a chance vs. LSU's defense, and I don't think they can outscore Tim Tebow... UK DID show Heisman Hopefuls Mcfadden, and Brohm to the door. So for whoever said Kentucky hasn't played anyone get a fucking grip on reality. You don't play against two heisman hopefuls and win 2 weeks in a row. They have played against good talented teams (albiet one is a largely over talented team with an under talented coach. Kragthorpe has one of the most talented teams in the nation and he can't even get his defense lined up right) and won.

That's right UK is 4-0 starting this season... Since when.. I dunno but that's a big deal we play a cupcake team next weekend and then we get into the thick of the SEC play. At which point it goes something like this #12 South Carolina (can we do it?) then #2 LSU then #3 Florida... Then later on we gotta play a ranked Georgia.

With Kentucky Going 5-0 (and they will) and then meeting up with South Carolina, LSU, and Florida they are going to believe they are unstoppable... And usually when a team believes themselves to be the Jugarnaut they tend to end up as such. By then they will have the understanding that they have nothing to lose and all to gain... For the first time in forever... Kentucky is something to talk about.

or... Kentucky is going to get absolutely taken apart by teams that force mistakes, play aggressively, pressure the QB, and squash 3rd down conversions. Not calling them chumps or anything, but this is the same kind of talk you hear from fans of over valued teams ;)
 
Oh LSU is going to rip them to shreds no doubt about it. But I think Kentucky can actually beat SC and I'm wondering if they can keep up with Tebow.

Yea Woodson is a great QB....He def deserves some Heisman consideration....But as for against LSU....The D is playing on a whole other level...

i just thought about this....so far this season, not a single starting QB has finished the game against the LSU D....Now what kind of statement does that send to the remaining teams on our schedule??

Sorry, im trying to humble about my team.....But God damm, Ive never seen a team so confident and play so unseflishly....

The thing with Georgia is they're annually overhyped. ;) I had to chuckle about Richt's "vaunted" road record because I doubt his teams have traveled more than 1000 miles to play a non-conference game.

And yeah, it was a good place to have it, but Cal @ Oregon will be better. :D

But what's with the stipulation of traveling 1000 miles to play non-conference opponents :-\

If teams like cal and USC traveled to Death Valley for their away games, rather than Nebraska, they'd be more likely to leave with sore asses.


As for overhype... uhh. I still don't see it. The ultimate barometer for hype is walking around athens, and hearing joe shmoe talk about the dawgs going 7-4 this season. There's not even enough hype to call the UGA-Tenn game a walk away ;)
 
Damn, I was counting on Oct 6 gameday to be UF @ LSU, but I see that's the same day as Oklahoma @ Texas, which is probably the only Big12 game worth visiting this season :\ I think ESPN has been a little too SEC friendly this season (gamedays, featured games, ESPN Instant Classic replays, etc). I think we're a good conference, but I do think we're getting more airtime than the PAC10 or other equally deserving conferences.

Wins that have lost their luster....
Penn State over ND (now that they lost to Mich and ND has gone 0-4)
KY over L'ville (now that Syracuse has won it's first game of the season)
Iowa over Wisconsin (after WIS struggled with UNLV and the Citadel, they were over ranked and will probably lose 1-2 more Big10+1 games)
USF over Auburn (because Auburn was waaay over ranked, but I do think USF is more real than people thought)
USC over Nebraska (anyone watch NEB barely win over...Ball State? at home?)


It's weird watching the SEC East dominate the West so much. It's usually the tougher division, but c'mon, it looks like LSU is the only team in the West :\ The East teams that are ranked...8) I like it, but I don't think it's fully justified. Anyone go to ESPN and do the fan rankings? You start to realize how hard it is to put teams in the top 10 or 15. Top 5 is okay, then after that you're looking at a pool of names saying "I don't want to put that team up there, but there is nobody better" :\

'SC has traveled all over the U.S. and played quality non-conference opponents and won. Other Pac-10 teams have made long trips too. And it's not like all SEC teams don't go up against good non-conference opponents...just seems like until near future, Georgia's schedule has been very SEC-reliant and never too threatening when it comes to non-conference. I know you and I have talked about this before...so I won't bring the shame to your team again. ;) I look forward to the home-and-home with ASU in '08 and '09.

Georgia just never seems to live up to expectations, whenever they have them. Despite this, they are annually given a top 15 preseason ranking. Combine this with my issues with how they schedule non-conference and you have the makings of a typically overhyped team. A lot of SEC fans I know prop them up as being an example of how good the SEC is...and I just don't agree. Sorry my man.
 
I'm not here to talk about these phantom SEC fans you know ;) You're talking to a flesh-and-blood one now. Hype comes from the top down in football, and despite the ranking, which I think it pretty fair, Dawgs aren't the only unbeaten that high, I don't see the hype.

Its no secret that GA CAN'T win a game against Florida until Ron Zouk comes back, and that an inferior SC team routinely either beats us, or or takes it down to the last couple possessions. Where's the hype. UGA is the middle of the pack this year in the SEC. There isn't overwhelming talent on the team. If everybody does it on Saturday the way they drill for it all week, UGA is the kind of team that can take games from ranked opponents week after week the way they did at the end of the 2006 season (hence the pre season ranking). When the wrong team shows up, you get to watch shitty football.

As for the non-conference schedule, I think its indefensible, and I would rather see SEC teams bite the bullet and play meaningful opponents from big conferences. You don't think we'd have shit housed Nebraska two weeks ago? Or MSU? The same way we punished the eternally over-valued Boise State?

anyway, and this isn't supposed to be a provocative question:

what's the reasoning behind some schools (USC, Rutgers) starting their seasons late?
 
Well atlas I'm only picking Kentucky to have 2-3 losses this season. 1 to LSU, 1 to Florida and 1 to Steve Spurrier (we've never beat him, and if we do we'd probably dismantal their stadium on the way out...).

Now I'm not gonna get all dreamy eyed and say that the rug can't be pulled out from underneath us... because it can... and I think every UK fan in the nation is sitting around holding their breaths for a lost to Florida Atlantic or something stupid. On the other hand... for a little while as a UK fan I have Football smack to talk and I'm not going to miss out on it.

So GO BIG BLUE!

Rutgers started the season on 8/30....USC started 9/1. What are you talking about?

Like I alluded to before, the undeserved hype is in the preseason rankings. As you've stated, you think their typical preseason ranking is fair, and I wouldn't expect a homer like yourself to answer otherwise. ;)

So a "middle-of-the-pack team in the SEC" by your own admission deserves to be as highly ranked as #13 in the preseason polls? Something doesn't make sense...unless it accounts for good 'ol SEC bias. Can you say overrated?

I do like Stafford's game though.

when he sets his feet before he throws, anyway. Nothing like a ball thrown needlessly from the hind leg for a turnover, or a 3rd and long situation.

UGA is middle of the pack insofar as they aren't really dominating the games they play. Like it or not, teams don't fall out of the polls until they start dropping games.

Well take florida from last season as an example... they didn't really dominate anyone... Except Ohio.

So, what's exciting you guys this week? For me, Aub @ UF just isn't that 'exciting' but you know I'll be watching anyway. Probably the best matchup of the weekend will be #6 California at #11 Oregon, but I'd be afraid of gameday pulling a bonehead move and covering Alabama VS Florida State just because it's an odd matchup with some 'has been' powers that don't have much history between them. :\ Cal-Oregon, that *should* be gameday, IMO.

I hope USF takes WVU down a few more pegs, but that's mostly fueled by home-state lovin <3 Other upsets I'd like to see would be Michigan at Northwestern, #3 Oklahoma at Colorado (not likely, but I can hope), Michigan State at #9 Wisconsin (yeah, about that Wisconsin loss...), Kansas State at #7 Texas (not likely, but TX has yet to impress me), and while I'm living the (pipe) dream we'll throw #1 USC at Washington as one last upset I'd love to see.

They sold-out RayJay Stadium for the first time ever for a USF game. 65,000+ seats.
