the official *i'm quitting!* thread

Maybe you can take a small break from drinking- which is what I'm doing, until I can not smoke at all ever, no matter what altered state I am in. SMoking is something I enjoyed so much when I was drinking, but I know that being a non smoker again, if I get that nicotine buzz while drunk, I will likely throw up, so, it is better not to.

6 days going strong!!!! its not impossible!

You're inspiring LightSeeker, keep it up man. It's all in your mind and your attitude. I'm going to try to quit smoking herb because of this thread, and Mother's Day weekend is a great time to start! It's definetely not impossible

I officially quit tomorrow, after a DXM trip..Cigs are gonna be gone out of my life. I'm going to do it. Thank you for inspiring me poster.

I was a smoker for 3 years. When I got to college (almost 2 years ago) I smoked a pack a day. I got to the point where I had increased blood pressure and a doctor put a lot of pressure on me to quit. I got to the point where I would smoke a cig cause the craving kicked in and half-way through I would have to put it out cause it tasted so nasty. One night my friends and I got really fucked up on coke and booze, and when I woke up on Easter, I decided that I would never smoke again. Seriously, it was really weird because I never thought it was going to be so easy to stop. Maybe god intervened? (I'm not religious) Now I haven't smoked since easter (so that's like 4 weeks?) Even when I get super fucked up on booze or rolls or anything else, I don't want to touch a cigarette. None of my clothes smell and it's pleasant to be in my room. Every time that I have the urge I think of how nasty it tastes and consequences of starting up again. Cigarettes suck, I seriously hope anyone who wants to quit is able to. I personally hope never to smoke cigs again.

I feel like my opinion is invisible to you black-and-whiters.. yes, i'll agree-- cigarettes, as you know it, suck. They taste nasty, they burn fast, they hurt your throat, give headaches. I've tried them, and in my opinion, the "lighter" and "classier" the packaging and marketing schemes appear, the worse they taste and feel.

But that's not what real tobacco is like. Real tobacco, if you roll it yourself, doesn't contain formaldahyde, plant extracts, sugar, gelatine, burn lines, countless chemicals that you would find in cockroach killer and cleaning supplies.. It contains tobacco, which naturally contains nicotine and 200 other almost inert chemicals. It shouldn't burn down in 2 minutes but 5, shouldn't give you headaches or hurt your throat.. In fact some companies aren't like the rest and package pure tobacco, maybe some flavoring.. but chances are most companies FREEZE dry their tobacco stem, leaves, other crap, only after soaking in ammonia and FREON, and inserting hundreds to thousands of chemicals with long names at the volume of about .01%.

I can't smoke another corporate cigarette, save maybe Turkish Camel blends.. but after looking at Philip Morris' website (the ingredients page that states that they only use 90% tobacco.. that's 2 cigs per pack of pure chemicals), and looking at a cig under the blacklight.. I can't ever buy another.

These corporations give tobacco a horrible name.

I quit about a month ago, and haven't craved a cigarette since then. I used the book, "The Easyway to Quit Smoking" or "Quit Smoking the Easyway", I forget. The author is named Allen Carr. He writes that using his method you don't need will power to quit, you don't need to go through some horrible withdrawal period, etc. And you know what? He was right. A day after reading the book, I'd finish a meal and not even think of having a cigarette.

Weird, I know, but worth spending $15 on it to try it for yourself and see.

I quit about two months ago after about 6 - 7 years heavy smoking. I ended up getting an abscess in my throat after having a rather large weekend, and decided I would never smoke again.

I was craving a lot for the first three weeks. I found that if I went out drinking, every time I craved a ciggerette I would have a sip of my drink instead. As a result, I just ended up drinking a lot more than usual and getting absolutly plastered for those first few weeks.

Since then the cravings have gradually died down, so it's a lot easier. I still get cravings, however they are much less frequent and don't last too long.

I went out about a month after quitting and went pretty hard on booze, meth and e, and didn't crave a ciggerete at all, so I think thats a good sign. Normally I would smoke about 2-3 packets with that combo.

I also found that going to gym and working out along side quitting smoking helps. I feel fitter than I have in years, and I think it also helps to cope with the weight that some people put on after quitting.

I went about three weeks without smoking and today I found myself walking to 7-11 and buying a pack. What. The. Fuck.

I sat there two hours with the urge to walk to the store and buy a pack. I tried distracting myself by cleaning, watching TV, doing the dishes, taking a shower, and I still ended up going. I felt and still feel so much better because haven't been a heavy smoker these last three weeks. I don't really know what came over me. I had one and tossed the rest in the freezer. I will not be taking out my pack if I go out tonight.

I should just throw them away to teach myself a lesson that they are a waste of money.

I did take your advice. I am smoking Nat Sherman's. Does that qualify?

I havent smoked in 3 days. I've been sick for so long it's driving me insane. Cigarettes are keeping me from getting better. I've been smoking off and on since I was 12. I'll be 19 this summer.

I have 8 packs left from a carton I bought... I'll probably sell them.

I would rather be dead than feel this shitty all the time.

no...It's, as far as I can tell, the true etymology of "'sherms".

ebola

I fear I'm too young to have heard of this, but it's never too early or late to pass on a tradition..

How are they? (Nat Sherman's)

Not my preferred smoke but they will have to do until I visit Canada. Canadian cigs will most likely kill you just as quickly as US cigs but they smell, burn, taste different than US cigs...just better IMO.
