The official best guitar performances and/or favorite riff discussion thread

The "ball and biscuit" is suprisingly easy to play... i just started yesterday and i got most of it cept the solos =D

That's pretty cool, it would awesome though if you could maybe record yourself playing it on vocaroo or make a video, I'd definitely be interested in hearing it

Out of all SRV's great performances, these two are my favorites

This one just oozes the blues, sweating balls, prolly blasted out of his mind on H, smoking cigs and still playing on a level I've never seen anyone else even come close to touching imo
Lenny

This one just has so many feels, can you name another guitarist that even has half the passion Stevie put into his playing?
Also, dat tone. The only other guitarist's tone that I liked more than SRV's would be David Gilmour's, but we'll save that for another post

This is the stuff i cant handle... sounds like barfing twinkies... click to watch video

Mastodon rapes your face, bro. (Although, admittedly, that's one of their worst songs)

Ok, I've posted this before in another thread and got some hate for it, but I'll keep singing this dude's praises until people start to recognize how amazing he really is:

His music might sound totally random, but everything he's playing has been written down. HE WROTE THAT. It blows my mind that he can make music so crazy, amelodic and random-sounding and can remember it all. He's playing to a pre-programmed drum machine for god's sake. You may not like the music but you gotta respect the intense passion, dedication, and talent that goes into it. This guy is a true artist.

What is/are the greatest guitar riff/s of all time-in your opinion?

I was just sitting around playing some songs on my guitar and played a riff from an old 'Kings X' song "Over My Head". I remembered how unusual the riff in that song was considered at the time?

I would like to know what other people's, musicians or not, favorite guitar riffs or themes are? What is it about that 'riff' that makes it so powerful to you?

I feel like we can just merge both of these threads since the discussion is so closely related
Cool?

This was always one of my favs

Excuse me for asking but when did a "riff" become a song or performance? I am talking about a riff like "opening from Highway to Hell AC/DC"
Or the part of the song "Three Days" by Jane's addiction where it changes beginning with the vocals "Erotic Jesus!".

I suppose I understand now how the threads were merged. It is tough to describe a specific part of song. When I began the thread I was playing a song that I really cannot stand but I always play that "riff" from Kings X 'Over My Head' to keep my playing fresh because it is different with the ending chord F7(or something like that) sounding so dissonant. If anyone knows the song they know what I am talking about.

As long as it creates discussion.%)

Yeah maybe I should just rename this something like the official best guitar performances and/or favorite riff discussion thread?

How's that sound?
If not we can have two different threads but I just think this might help build a longer lasting more diverse thread

Yeah, probably best to leave it as is unless anyone else has a brilliant suggestion. Whatever will yield the most replies.

To hell with my question about riffs. I want to see/hear some more great guitar performances, riffs, what have you. Do not allow the merged threads to confuse you. I want to see/hear the best, rock, folk, country, jazz, blues guitar licks, songs that you feel are/were inspirational to you and worthy of a mention in this thread.
