the official 08 NBA playoffs thread

every episode of family guy is past its prime. i would be inclined to say... none of them ever even HIT their prime. that show sucks worse than the eastern conference as a whole.

You can eek that win out on the road, but not in Boston!

Welcome home, Celts! The Superbowl has always been won on the road, obviously. The Sox have clinched in 04 and 07 after sweeping, and unfortunately, on the road.

It's time we win one in Boston.

Ok, so what do we think of the first quarter of Game 5 now???

I'm quite glad the Celtics caught up in Q2, otherwise the Lakers wouldn't have woken up and stood and their ground.

that was a very sloppy game of basketball. the Lakers really need to work on their defense, but they edged out the Celts because Kevin Garnett played pretty mediocre and because KG and Ray Allen were in foul trouble throughout most of the second half. Boston played as a team that had the luxury of not really needing to win that game.

I am glad that the Lakers won their last home game of the season, they definetely deserved it. I would have been devastated if LA laid on their back for that game - I really want to see a good series come out of this years Finals. that being said Kobe Bryant and co. are going to have to play a lot better against Boston AT HOME. hopefully the Lakers can win the next game in Boson and it will come down to Game 7.

that being said, I really wish I was in Beantown right now. Boston sports fans really know how to party when their team wins. TopRocka brought up a good point how recently no Boston teams have won the whole shebang at home - I can only imagine my old place in Kenmore after a home Celtics win.

lets just say the city will be crawling with mad, drunk white women who still find a goof way to look sexy despite sounding like an extra from Good Will Hunting.

I was chatting with my neighbor yesteday, a few hours before the game. We came to two short conclusions (keep in mind I live just outside of LA):

1. Since the Lakers have a rather slim chance of winning unless they bring their A+ game; and no chance with the current scrambling offense and apparent total lack of defense, we though the Lakers may as well have lost game 5 so we could deny the Celtics the victory/celebration at their home court.

and as a consequence of (1):
2. Angelinos (some term some idiot made up for people who live in LA) don't know how to celebrate, and whether game 5 (and/or the series) resulted in a victory or a loss, it would inevitably lead to mass riots, violence, and a couple of deaths before the night is over.

What the fuck is up with sports fans not knowing how to celebrate?
We won? - Let's set cars on fire!!!
We lost?! - Let's set cars on fire!!!

Maybe its just a Los Angeles thing.

I am *NOT* saying that the Lakers are GOING to win this series.

But with that said, anyone who thinks that the team with the league's best player, the league's best coach, and the league's best all-around offense CANNOT win two straight road games is insane.

Its 1 game at a time fellows.... game 6 starts now... all the lakers have to do is win this game TONIGHT.... lets see if the supporting laker cast can play......

i would love to see game 7

can't watch 2nd half, yay boston u earned it.

I would love to see a Game 7 as well. hopefully the Lakers can pull it off. I don't think they can because KG and Paul Pierce play exquisite at home. however, the Lakers and the Celtics have both had some comebacks... and it is only halftime.

I want to see Boston win it, but for the sake of pro basketball I want to see them win it in Game 7.

come on LA. lets see a game!

The fat lady is singing so loudly, Shaquille O'Neal has decided to join her.

Congrats, Celtic fans.

Great season; great series.

May my next during-the-season post in this forum be about the Knicks being above .500.

Go New York.

Go New York.

Go.

fuck man, 2 words;

INCOMPREHENSIBLE DEMORALIZATION....

this game reminds of me of how bad drugs RAPED me and destroyed my life...

so who does everyone think should get the Finals MVP? I would say Paul Pierce, because he has played most extraordinary out of the whole Celtic team throughout the playoffs, but it will probably go to Jesus Shuttlesworth... damn that dude has been draining treys all night long.

Paul Pierce should get the MVP because he has played solid for Boston ALL season long, and most importantly, ALL playoffs long. granted, Jesus Shuttlesworth FINALLY stepped up in the Finals in a huge way and since the Finals MVP is decided soley on the Finals - it probably will go to him.

nice to hear the Boston fans at the Garden chanting "Na na na - hey hey hey - goodbye." man, those Celtics fans were particularly arrogant this year. it looks like they have forgotten all those years post-1986 where they got ass-raped daily, their shit pushed right in next to their liver. I wish I was back in Kenmore Square to see the Celtics parades. I never got to see a Celtics game because it was held in Fanuiel Hall (sp?) and man... does that part of Boston suck. dudes go there (from Framingham usually) sporting their Lacoste polos and try to get laid. well once the fine female rejects them they usually try to fight - and fight me, because I look like I'm in a band (therefore better than them) and because they get pissed a dude from Cleveland has the most fine looking female specimen under his arm.

fuck Fanuiel Hall, Fanuiel Hall is dead - Long live the Celtics.

LOL @ LA hahahahahahah
got owned tonight.....kobe cannot win a championship by himself and paul gasol LOL

yeah, Kobe really needs someone like Shaq to win all those rings. Kobe finally looks past his prime.

oh well, bring on Lebron James.

As Bill Simmons pointed out in his article today, the Lakers and Staples Center really dropped the ball on a great opportunity to play clips of Denzel Washington schooling Jesus Shuttlesworth in He Got Game during the Laker home games.

As for tonight's game, the outcome was clearly predetermined by the NBA and David Stern (the Boss Tweed of the 21st Century) as a way to make amends for Game 6 of the 2002 Western Conference Finals. I think there is no question which team is the best: the Spurs.

If Kobe doesn't redeem himself next year I don't know what I'm going to do. It's not really in my nature, as a Los Angeles native, to stand behind losers. In my sports cosmology, which has been rapidly decaying over the last week and a half, there was no way that Kobe Bryant could not will his team to victory in these Finals. But he didn't. This is like finding out that not only is gravity not the natural phenomenon by which all objects with mass attract each other, it is also the phenomenon responsible for having Sonny Corleone killed on the Jones Beach Causeway.

Kobe is the best player in basketball, but he and Gasol couldn't carry their team to victory when up against the best team in the league. The Celtics have way more depth and last night showed that.
