the official 08 NBA playoffs thread

This will be a spectacular series, probably will go to 7 games.

Let's look at the matchups:

Kobe/Allen: Kobe

KG/Odom: KG

Gasol/Perkins: Gasol

Fisher/Rondo: Rondo is fast and tricky, but fisher has the experience, so I'll give it to Fisher.

Pierce/Radman: Pierce no doubt

Will wise you could say that Boston wants it more, but Kobe always fights hard to win no matter what, so that's uncertain.

I give it to lakers in 7.

{Rant}

I just don't see it happening.

But this is that same feeling I felt before the Giants/Pats game,
except in reverse. I hate the Pats. Or all sports Boston for that matter.

Did you see the way the Celts celebrated after putting the Pistons away?
C'mon! Save for KG, I saw a team that was satisfied just getting to the
Finals. They looked relieved.
"Beat LA! Beat LA!"
Ick. Kinda embarassing, no?

Long time coming for Pierce, I'm happiest for him, actually. And I can't
really blame the guy for the aftersex glow on his face, but he just has
that no-close persona to him. I know you know what I'm talking about.

I'm thinking LA's greatest asset, aside from Kobe's scary 4th quarter instincts,
is Phil Jackson's experience. There's nothing Boston can show him that he hasn't
seen 10 times before. He'll make the x and o adjustment, the team will execute. After I get over how much money Doc Rivers makes, I kinda feel bad/sorry for him. But on the flip side of that, I'm sure the same thing was said about Phil before he won his first one.

And sorry for bringing up the footballs again but
the Giants did prove this year, although in a different sport, that experience
isn't the end all be all.

One might argue, "The Lakers/P. Jack aren't invincible, they lost their last
one."

Saddest week in Southern California, it was.

Easy for me to say now, but I believe it to be advantageous. They no longer
have to uphold a perfect record for their beloved coach. Kobe's lost one, Fisher's lost one. They know the feeling. I'm almost positive those vets will go to all types of great lengths to avoid that feeling.

But when it comes down to it, I'm not convinced Boston offense can put
up the type of numbers that LA's capable of putting up.

But for the sake of C's fans and/or Laker haters, I really hope I'm wrong.
After a decade of yawner Finals, scattered with sweeps and Game 6 letdowns,
I think we're all ready for something to call our own. I want Kobe with the
ball in the closing seconds of the fourth, Game 7, hit or miss, it'll give us something to discuss and remember.

And just for shits, Kobe's three 4th quarter airballs in a playoff game against
Malone/Stockton and co. Watch it, it's funny.

See, he wasn't always a basketball God.

^^^

Well first off Michael Jordan is God ...

Michael Jordan would not go 9/28 score 24 points and loose game 1 with Lamar Odom and Pau Gasol as his star team mates...

Boston played great defense.....

Phil Jackson is like 43-0 when he wins the first game of a playoff series...

maybe the finals will be interesting after all

Pierce showed alot of heart

Anyone else notice how mark jackson and jeff van gundy just argue with each other all the time its kinda annoying

the whole paul pierce thing was a little sketchy to me. hes hurt, hes crying. then hes rocky balboaing back into the arena?

and las vegas betting surley has its ways of influenceing games.

mabey the boys in LV needed some more bets on boston. so they have boston win this one. all the bets now favor boston.

lakers win...

LV makes money.

and to say that its far fetched is not true. who remember the referee who got busted ...

it JUST might be true!

come on man the nba has more integrity than any league in my opinion, dAvid stern jumped on the crooked ref situation. la just got out outpplayed last night

Although the Lakers were missing quite a few shots, I did feel (especially in the first quarter or so) that the refs were making some sketchy calls, and not calling the Celtics on a lot of blatant fouls.

ITS FIXED! lol...

there subtle things that dont make sense....

ya know?

god dammit LA almost came back i want to atleast see a series....

lakers just look flat and lack of energy whole game

how about my boy Powe? he played his ass off last night, good for him.

Kobe is getting punked out by Boston's at times sluggish, but efficient help-defense.

^^^ Powe had more free throw attempts than the WHOLE laker team LOL wtf?

I expect lakers to really bounce back tonight....

so the Lakers won last night. no surprise there as I think ever sports nut in the world had them pegged to win.

what has this series taught us so far? that Boston might be better than we have all thought they would be, and that the Eastern Conference might be better than the Western Conference. we have learned that the Lakers are a soft team that cannot play defense and we have reaffirmed that they are rather young. the Lakers and the Western Conference as a whole, aren't better than anybody else at defense, rebounding, just sometimes scoring points (when hot).

I just hope Kobe et al make it a series. I don't want to see a team get punked like the Cavs last year. not fun.
