I cant figure out if and when nodding is safe. How do you know when it's okay to nod off? I've been wrestling with this problem intermittently for a year. On one hand, i adore this half-awake twilight space from nodding i get on opiates especially with pot. On the other hand, Im always worried that im not going to wake up. Obviously every time somebody od's they nod off first. How do I know im not overdosing and going to die if i let myself nod off? I mean, if a person cant maintain consciousness, doesnt that mean they're close to overdosing or stopping breathing?? Or is there a ways to go between sleep and actually stopping breathing. Any tricks or clues you guys use to know when it's okay to nod and when you should stay awake? The best opiate highs are always when im ready to pass out.

from what I've heard when you overdose you go down for the count right away. If you're smoking pot I wouldn't be alarmed. When I did that I found nodding off to be atleaste 3x easier. If you're not dosing higher then you're obviously not gonna overdose, you're just nodding easier. You can't overdose from what you didnt dose. As or antihistamin and benzo potentiation I know nothing about either.

yea OD's occur instantaneously, but you can do too much dope and throw up, the emesis reaction (for me) from dope usually doesnt occur until at least an hour after adminstration, it is possible to nod out and choke on your barf, especially if youre taking an unfamiliar dose or mixing it with something unfamiliar. If dope causes emesis in me i make fucking sure not to nod out, for this very reason.
When i first starting nodding out, i would freak too. Just make sure not to nod out until youre absolutely sure you wont throw up in your sleep. (ie havent taken a dose high enough to cause emesis.)

Maybe just stick to your dose and don't go drastically higher. All I've been through was an overdose from redosing and it got to the point I didn't register anything and they gave me a shot of ephedrine i.m. I was so fucking high, I was still spaced out. When you overdose, you have quite no thoughts at all rather than watch nods.

I used to worry I was ODing too. I'd always ask my bf "did I OD? Am I ODing?" and he'd always reassure me that I wasn't. Now I get pissed if I don't nod and worry about ODing is far from my mind since I have a high tolerance.

You won't know it if you OD. You're just unconscious.

Anybody thats seen afew ODs Knows what goin on......for real, "OMG Im nodding so hard did I just OD?!?" Duh. When their lips are blue, and they wont responed nomater how hard you slap them then you should probly call the EMTs.

for me i never had a problem of being afraid of nodding off . all i did was to make sure i read enough information about what i was doing before i did it and what to watch for . and because im smart enough not to just eyeball a dose and be like what the fuck ever and take it because im too lazy to scale it .

i'd suggest not ssmoking pot, it can cause a lot of anxiety and make you think you're ODing when you're really not. that's happened to me at least 6 times.

od's do not always happen instantaneously, my friend got high in the car right after we copp'd an was goin on about how good the shit was, so i found the nearest mcdonalds and went into the bathroom to get high ( this is roughly 15 minutes after my buddy got high) when i came out and got in the car he was completly blue and i ran in and called 911, i did all i could to wake him befor the ambulance got there, they arived, did there thing and he woke up, scary as hell, but yea anyways i guess they can happen when ever.

I agree with NickyBundles. I am not sure, but I think I OD'd several times in the last few weeks from doses around 240mg - 320mg of oxycodone. Each time, I would feel a pretty good rush come in 10 min after administration, and i would get to enjoy it for another 15 min or so. Next thing I knew, I would wake up, and it would be 3 hours later. The most recent time I had my roommates cell phone on me, and I passed out in this fashion with my door locked. He called it many times and I didn't pick up, although he heard it ring. He then broke my window and came in through the fire escape when he saw me lying on the bed. He said that he shook and yelled at me for about 5 min, and I didn't respond. I woke up an hour or two later with a few of my very disappointed best friends standing over me. I am actually surprised they didn't call 911.

I feel I should edit this to say that I feel very lucky to still be alive and well, and regret and don't advise such a careless increase from one's usual dose . Especially with a MOA with such a quick onset.

Not true, if you've OD'ed once you see it coming, its like passing out, that fuzzy blackness starts to close your feild of vision, if your alone you might be able to call 911, at times I've done my hit then gone outside on the porch, called a friend and told them to call me in 3-5 min and if they call twice and I don't answer call 911 to my addy.. its still best to have a partner there when your pushing it or mixing up with benzos and alcohol. You can go down quicker than you know whats happening, a harm reduction site I've seen says 5-20 seconds within the hit, but I was up for 2 min before I hit the floor.

No dude you don't OD for "a couple hours" haha and it requires narcan to bring you back..

I've heard you can stop an on the verge od by making someone go outside if its cold or putting ice on their balls and generally keeping them moving but nmaybe thats not really an od..

yeh I didn't think it was really an OD. More like a dose too high to stay awake on. Sort of like a sleeping pill that will knock you out. The one thing that worried me was that my friend was shaking me and I was completely unresponsive.

When I od'd on fent, I didnt remember shit. Just be woken up, getting bitchslapped every 5 seconds by my friend yelling "Keep your goddamn eyes open!" and having cold water thrown on me.

I didn't even catch a nod first, happened when eating 1x100mcg/h patch + 1x25mcg/h patch

This man speaks the truth. I had to do the same thing for a friend of mine. Its true about the lips too.

ODs are not all instantaneous.

Whether you go out cold right off the bat is dependent on what you drug you're using(heroin vs. methadone), if you're combining it(mixed depressant OD), and what moa you used(oral vs. IV).

It's definitely possible to wake somebody up in certain cases. the first time i ever injected my friend with H (real pure stuff too), i gave him a miniscule amount - half my dose, and he passed out during the rush and turned white, lips blue. Scared the SHIT out of me. It was a real bad situation, and I wasnt very experienced with H at that point (bad idea to inject somebody). I picked him up to try to drag him to my car (the hospital was 5 blocks away) but he sort of stumbled and unfortunately I rolled his ankle on something, breaking his ankle, the pain snapped him right out of it. Ridiculous. I then did a nearly OD level dose (after knowing how much i measured for him), and we both snorted a bunch of meth and drove to the hospital, where they gave him a couple shots of dilaudid. Absolutely ridiculous night.

How not to get burned by an OD: never shoot up anybody but yourself! especialy if they have been up afew days amping.....very bad. Another time I was dragging this kid down the driveway by his feet(to meet the EMTs) and ripped his pants of. I couldnt believe this muthamucker was doing this to me and he wasnt my friend so I relieved him of his dope and most of his money for saving his life.......I ran into the kid weeks later and he was just grateful about me calling the ambulance, didnt say shit about the dope or cash. One time I had this girls brothers trying to hunt me down, even though I saved the bitches life.

Exactly. While most fatal ODs occur from IV administration and do cause the user to almost instantaneously become unconscious that is not always the case. It normally is with IV H though. A lot of users die with the syringe still in their arm..

A good friend of mine died from a suspected fentanyl analog overdose and it appears from what I was told that he was able to get the needle and tourniquet off his arm, put it in a drawer, walk about 30 feet, and he passed out outside the hallway near the bathroom door where his wife was taking a shower :(.

Although, I do think a lot of people freak out and think they are overdosing when they really aren't. Nodding can give people who aren't used to it some serious anxiety and fear for their life.
