This one's from the director of "City of Lost Children." "A Very Long Engagement" has the perfumed-letter warmth of his "Amelie" but shucks off that film's quirkiness, which is entirely appropriate for its more serious wartime themes, yet it isn't deprived of its creator's lighter touches. It retains the playful mechanical surrealism recalled by
"Delicatessen's" Rube Goldberg inspired plot movements, for instance, albeit more restrained and particular in expression, making for a more somber but still familiar experience for any viewers hoping again, as I was, to feel the brush of Jeunet's inimitable aesthetic touch.

so just found out i've been paying for dvd rental and not just instant for the past two months.
you guys have any movies you wish you had in your DVD queue if you weren't broke junkies and could afford the extra 9$ a month? i've got like four in there, but you know, hopefully we'll go through that fast.
^I assume that though this is called "The Netflix Mega Thread," that "The Netflix Instant
Streaming Mega Thread" is what is really implied, and so what you're asking for is for any old movie recommendation accessible within the total Netflix library (which is Hollywood film centric but still so vast that to have a thread truly meant to just discuss Netflix's instant and DVD access in isolation only versus unfettered access to all of history's film and video media would be quite odd, but then why did you ask in the Netflix thread, and why isn't this thread titled differently?)? [/half light fun poking half genuinely curious aside].
Anyways, seeing as I'm not a junkie, but rather an underemployed Liberal Arts masters degree recipient who finds life outside academia a source of unending existential crisis and is starting to think becoming a junkie might make for a better excuse for his lack of funds and motivation to pursue a career than maintaining his frustratingly lucid status -- yet who nevertheless isn't quite so destitute as to be unable to afford the extra $9 a month for DVD rentals -- I'll entertain your request and toss you a mix of queue-able lesser known new and old titles I've personally verified are worth everybody's attention.

Ok. Goodnight. I've done what I intended and exhausted myself enough through making this post to get to bed in time to wake up for my unwanted job.
