i was walking along a forest path, a fine spray of mist gently hitting my face and fat drops of water from laden leaves splashing as they exploded against the dirt below the trees. my feet tread on the mud, slowly sinking down, like my heart, and it pulled at the soles of my boots as though it wanted to pull me down into it and sink for eternity. i paused for a moment and stood there, as the mud excitedly began to creep up the edge of my boots, soaking into the suede and consuming me. the drops continued to descend from the canopy above, saturating the earth.
