Went up to Springer Mountain (and came back down along the Benton McKaye Trail) again yesterday. The friend who I went with recently did Katahdin, which is incredibly impressive to me.

And this is from Blood Mountain, 2 weeks ago. There's a 2 room stone shelter at the top.

Such a great idea! I think bringing along a historical book outlining the important trade locations and conduct that occured would add to the adventure along the road. You would unfortunately have to skip syria, afghanistan etc for obvious reasons, but just simply being on these trade routes would be awe inspiring. Seeing these societies and how they operate would be amazing.

Yeh just saw a similar itinerary advertised with a tour company for $31000 WTF thats why it's hard to undertake a trip like this solo ( if you're not $$). Doesn't look like it's gonna happen this year, Although the latitude is pretty similar across the route, the huge altitude and precipitation variability due to the geography of the Himalaya mean it's pretty tricky to get the timings right.
Right now is a good time to visit parts of China, Iran and Turkey, but I had hoped to spend a good chunk of time in Kyrgyzstan and it's getting too cold there to make the best of it.

A few of the stans are really opening up to tourism so it would be great to visit these regions before the social and financial impacts of tourism.

I be there are a ton of bluelighters that hike that dont visit this forum.

I'd love to see more hiking photos from different parts of the world.

Steep Ravine is gorgeous, and then if you take Dipsea rather than finishing Steep Ravine the views of the ocean are even better.

Hiking, particularly solo hiking, has been one of my favorite activities since childhood. Vigorous exercise combined with a voracious appetite for knowledge of one's environment equals complete exhalation for me.

With drugs or without, a good hike will blow your mind!!
