Hey yall I just recently got prescribed to 16mg of bupe a day for a couple of weeks then a slow taper. Out of curiosity what is 16mg of bupe equal to in terms of oxycodone , I know the buzz is not nearly the same but still I am just looking for a so called "scale" or ratio between the two.

Axl I did use the search engine thats why I posted the ? I couldnt find jack shit for the answer I was looking for. I am just curious because I am prescribed to this stuff because I was taking 45mg of oxy a day for 3 years so they put me on this stuff at 16mg a day and it feels way to strong
 
16mg of bupe for a 45mg/day oxy habit? that sounds way high to me. did your GP prescribe this, or did you go to a bupe clinic?
 
i'm so lucky about the bupe here...its from a privet doctor i don't even meet! and its really cheap! i just pick up presriptions every 3 months!
 
Yes a Dr. prescribed it to me , he is a M.D. and is certified to prescribe this medication. So no I dont go to a clinic but it is from a docter. I think its to much It gives me horrible headaches and pains behind my eyes and I am so darn tired all the time and sick to my stomach do these side-effects diminish with time, today is day 3 on this stuff , thanks for all your responses.
 
Does anybody have a idea what would be a better dose , considering the amount I used to use 45mg a day 3 years plus of oxycodone spread through out the day. I think 16mg is a bit much I feel more intoxicated on that shit than I do on the oxy and its a lot less enjoyable of a high. Bump
 
Jeez I'm coming off at least twice as big a habit as you and I'm starting bupe tomorrow........I'm curious as to what my starting dose will be......the doc I got is kind of a hard ass though.....she piss tests and will only write scripts for 1 week at a time.....

I have to go tomorrow for 4 hours so they can feed me bupe and gauge my tolerance to it.......we'll see what happens......
 
btw I've heard only good things, except for L2G and a few others who have complained about the headaches....I hope I don't get that shit.....
 
You will mostly likely be give 1 8mg tab to gauge your bodies respons to it and you will sit in the office and she will monitor you. Than you increase from there, I am a firm believer that high doses 32+ are necessary in the induction phase as its so easy to use and the higher dose the better.

Its really depend on your body and what works best for you some can skate away on low doses (which I am at the moment 1-2mg daily) but during heavy w/d or a binge that dose must be increased dramatically.
 
huh....she said the highest she goes during induction is 24mg, so we'll see.....


I've been doing a drastic taper lately and haven't touched shit today (besides a fat blunt) and I'm fine, besides a runny nose, and a few chills.....
 
Yea it seems these days docs are dosing lower, she can go up to 32mg and slightly over if she writes the prescriptions (in)correct.

Good luck, its truly a miracle drug in my eyes its saved me from destruction... so far

Getting off it is easy a pie a bit uncomfortable but not bad, I just stay at a low dose these days so I can 'try' to stay clean.
 
sounds like a plan......I'll give it a whirl.....hopefully my happiness of being free from junk will outweigh me being pissed about not being able to smoke pot



OR, maybe I'll just have to have a "little talk" with her and see if we can work out the pot thing... ;)
 
I have heard some compare 4mg of Suboxone comparable to 40mg of oxycodone in a recreation-sense (coming from ppl that dont have a habit).

In a theraputic sense I have no idea

You need to clarify your ? What kinda of comparison do you want?
 
I was curious how much subutex I would need to = my old dose of oxy , the reason I was curious was because the Dr. put me on 16mg a day and this dose feels stronger than the habit I had before. Thanks for all the responses everyone , I appreciate it. Thanks Propynyl
 
I tried a bullshit conversion via

Converted 45mg oral oxycodone to IM morphine with 0% cross-tolerance reduction = 22.5mg. (Trying to compare oxy to equivalent heroin habit - morphine is nearly there 8) ). This is fuck all - even a mild heroin habit is probably more like 100mg/day. So yeah - 16mg bupe does seem like a lot. Don't forget though - buprenorphine effect ceilings out somewhat at higher doses - the high dose is more to extend length of action. You might not feel much less out of it with, say 8mg compared to 16mg - but the 16mg will last longer. You could try taking, say 4mg but it might not hold you between dosing (I'm assuming supervised dosing - ie you don't get to take home a box and self administer).

In a covering one's tolerance sense, I feel that 2mg of buprenorphine is equal to the tolerance one would get from using 20-30mg of oxy per day for a year.

I've read in dosage converters that .3mg of IM buprenorphine (buprenex) = 10mg of IM morphine in pain relief.

Too much bupe is too much bupe!!

In my opinion taking more suboxone than one needs is NOT pleasant (more itching, more constipation, more sleepiness, massive tolerance to overcome!), so if you're getting more than you need and you have willpower, stockpile for a rainy day (or somebody else's rainy day). If you don't have the willpower to taper if you've got more sitting around, talk to your doc about it!

Beware, once you've been on bupe for a year, tapering your dose is NOT as easy as you might imagine (although its definately easier than tapering oxy or morphine or methadone).
 
yeah I was kinda suprised that my doc threw me on 24 mg/day right off the bat, but I wasn't arguing (I actually got decently high off of it......today being my first bupe day...).....I sorta figured I should be able to get away w/less given what blah and others have said.....it won't hurt to have a little extra bupe kickin' around for that rainy day though, ya know??
 
Well day 4 is done , now I switch from subutex to suboxone 8mg pill twice daily , I think 8mg at once is way to much for currently I take a two milligram subutex every 2 or 3 hours and that is plenty for me. I am prescribed to 16mg a day or one subutex 2mg every two hours eight times a day. So basically I am worried that 8mg at once will wreck me and I am not looking to get messed up I just want to use it for what it is prescribed for so if i don't do that much I will save it. My previous drug prescribed to me was oxy 45mg a day spread out in 7.5mg doses. My question is should I cut in half those suboxone 8mg pills in two so I would take only 4mg at a time? Than I could take 4mg couple of times a day. I just don't want to feel to wrecked. Thank You All so much your responses.
 
damn it seems like bupe is taking the route of methadone ppl getting high off of maintainence doses.

LG2- if your in the initial stages I always found it better to split my doses heavy in teh morning and lighter down sundown.

1 word 'stockpile' think of the long term...
