the meaning of life?

meaning of life is to make it whatever u want it to be.

but meaning of life as humans as a species, well.
i got this idea, that we humans being the 'smartest' of all creatures on this earth, should infact be the caretakers of this beautiful place. Instead all we do is destroy it while we think about what we are meant to do with our lives.

I find it laughable that people need a reason to live. Seems to me like these people aren't confident enough in themselves.

I don't believe that life has a purpose or a meaning. We just exist because of a chain of events that led to the creation of the Earth and subsequently organic machines that self-replicate.

I'm perfectly happy to just 'play the game' -- Do what feels good to me. I like playing computer games, therefore an intermediate objective is to get a job to pay for a new computer and some new games. "He Who Dies With The Most Toys, Wins" is a perfectly acceptable meaning of life for me.

See, that's the problem. There doesn't need to be a point. You don't have to win if you don't want to, but I reckon it'd be a bit of fun.

I won't deny that I have had moments where I've felt that there might be some grand purpose or meaning to Life, the Universe and Everything, but at the same time, I choose not to dwell on that, purely because it is an unattainable goal.

"Surely it's attainable," I hear you respond. Trust me, it's not. The endless yearning for a goal that we can't see, explain or understand, is the driving force of the human race. It's the get-up-and-go that empowered our ancestors to invent tools, and eventually reach our current state.

If we could reach our higher purpose, we would have no need to progress any further on the Earth because we would have found what we needed, and not bothered to go any further wahtsoever. Could you imagine if people in the Stone Age had found life's meaning? They surely wouldn't have bothered to invent the wheel or anything fancy like that, because, "What's the point? We know what the meaning of life is."

The search for life's meaning is what keeps us going. Without it, our get-up-and-go would have got-up-and-went a long time ago.

Just set yourself your own goals, and have fun achieving them - enjoying myself is the only purpose I need to exist.

it just occurred to me...

as we are trying to put purpose/meaning to life, it is evident that it is almost impossible to do so. i guess the thing is, we think we are in command of life, and we are the ones to put the purpose in life. but could it be the other way around? the LIFE is in command of YOU and LIFE has put a purpose in YOU? so the question is NOT what is the purpose of LIFE, but rather what is the purpose of YOU?

I believe the meaning of life is increasing our intelligence; defined as increasing complexity, knowledge, and cooperation. As humans, most of us are on the apex of the intelligence train of evolution. The direction of evolution is towards more consciousness, creating complex order out of chaos- that is manifesting intelligence- the 4-meaning 2-to O-life.

Purpose of life: To live, experience, make the world a better place for children.

Unfortunately, because of $$$ I never had kids and now I can't have children. (Could always marry a widower or adopt.)

I went to Mexico yesterday. I make more money/week than half the Mexicans make/month and they have lots of babies.

Kill your pets, they don't love you they only want you to love them and waste food.

Unfortunately, I recently adopted a stray cat. A friend paid about $250 to get it neutered. So I don't know what to do with it: burden someone else with the responsibility, experience?

Maybe if I tell them why I want to rid my yard of this animal (the cat is a pest to the native birds, cockroaches and lizards) they will pass the information on to others just like I did.

Someone's bitter, and it's not me for once!

I'm not bitter, I'm considerate of the billions of people living on $1/day and the native flora and fauna destroyed/harrassed by domesticated animals (yes, I'm vegetarian too).

I have 5 domesticated animals. They do not destroy nor harass any native flora or fauna. 8(

I think America (and much of the Western World) has bigger consumption problems than pets.

GoddessLSD-XTC, what litre is your car? How many SUV's do you see on the roads? Perhaps you might want to tell people to change to more efficent cars before telling them to kill their pets?

they are just another unnecessary commodity

the point of human existance is simple and obvious - to enjoy yourself and care for others.
the significance of the existance of biological organisms is still debatable

The shit is hitting the fan. It's called PeakOil: the demand is outstripping supply. Soon we will have major life-changes worldwide.

People should not be taking care of i.e., domesticating animals. It's ducks and chickens in China that are causing flu. Cows pollute and destroy the environment. Eating meat is unhealthy. You cat/dog does NOT love you but only wants you to love it (blind people can't see this).

People with pets are mentally ill.

I have a 1200cc, 1977 Honda (owned for 10 years) and just bought a KIA minivan, which gets about the same MPG as the Honda. However, I hardly ever drive and ride a bike two miles downtown once a week to get mail and do business.

^^I think you are making some pretty wide assumptions. And what do you have to say about pets who die when their owner dies. You don't think animals have pseudo-emotions? They certainly have the neuronal circuits to do so on a primitive, attachment type level...

Oh and by the way, Goddess of pleasure, the shit hitting the fan is called the death throes of the fossil fuel industry, and birth of sustainble energy sources. Maybe you shouldn't believe everything you hear in the economic papers. Notice most people talking about Peak Oil are in some way affiliated with the petroleum companies. We have over a trillion of barrels left. People are realizing it doesn't make sense to pay companies to dig up old trees and hydrocarbons-to burn-to make steam that rotates a magnet that produces electricity.
We shouldn't put the magnet in the air to produce electricity, and drastically reduce the total cost of energy?
