New HBO series - it's pretty fricking dark. The premise is a rapture like event has occurred and 2% of the world's population has vanished, three years on the people left behind are trying to get on with life. It's a dark, supernatural, psychodrama. Quite good but quite fucked up at the same time. Wouldn't let kids watch it, it'd give them nightmares, lol

I've been hearing good things about this.

I think I'm going to wait until the season is over so I can watch the whole series at once. The internet has spoiled me :\

I wanted to like it, I really did...but it just seems like another Lost-esque stunt to me. "Hey audience, do you like unanswered questions? We know you do." Seems a bit shallow for HBO and I'm disappointed in them to be honest. I'll be glad to eat my words later on if I'm wrong, but I don't think I will be. They couldn't make sense of Lost in 6 seasons, and lets face it, this show will never last 6 seasons.

^^ This is based on a series of novels though, so one would imagine the plot has already been made sense of - one hopes, at least.

Two episodes in, and I fucking hate it already.

I never watched Lost, and I am so glad I didn't.

The smoking is gross and has gotten old. Along with the forced muteness. What's the point of writing? And the creepiness with the dogs?

This seems a little unlike HBO, imo.

dang, this sounded cool as f + like juston theroux (sp?) since mulholland dr. but like poopie, 2 episodes in and just can't get into it =/ surprised it has good ratings @ av club... i see some dislike as well tho, perhaps just not my cup of tea. maybe it will get better as the season progresses and i'll give it another chance, as of right now tho not gonna tune in every week.

I reckon you have to give things at least 4 episodes before making a final decision. I've never seen Lost or any of the other shows mentioned here so can't comment. It is kind of grating in a way I can't quite put my finger on, I don't hate it yet but at the same time I don't love it either. I guess I'm heartened by the fact that it is based on a book (or series of books?) so shouldn't be relying on script-writers to drive the narrative. I'll wait and see how it pans out.

I don't know how much of a spoiler this is, because its been mentioned by Lindelof in interviews and stuff but still... spoiler

NSFW:
Lindelof has said that this show is about the survivors, not the event itself. In the BOOK (which is not a part of a larger series, as far as I know) the story ends without any explanation of what happened to the 2%. I haven't actually read the entire book, but I do know that much because I looked it up. So my theory about how the show will play out is: Lindelof will continue to throw out mysterious occurrences (the moose, the dogs, the dog guy, wayne saying the asian girl is "important" and giving the dude some kind of secret mission, etc) to tease the viewer into thinking the show is leading up to an eventual revelation when it fact it isn't. If I had to guess everything will pan out just exactly like you'd expect in the real world. Wayne will just be a regular ole cult leader pedophile. Everything in the least mysterious will have some sort of explanation, and the ultimate question will go on unanswered...

watched sunday, still waiting. not going to give up, but something big needs to go down. i'm losing interest.

she's so hot.

first scene of this last episode was brutal.

i liked the whole episode. getting good.

So I've just started watching this last night. We watched the first episode and half of the 2nd one. Wasn't really what I was expecting, in an ambiguous way. That's exactly how I would describe my feelings toward the show so far, ambiguous or indifferent. I don't really like it or dislike it, but am interested to see where it goes.

Great episode last night. Basically thru off my predictions.

NSFW:
I sort of thought Wayne was a fraud. I mean he still is in some ways. Sort of supernatural-lite I guess. Up until this point it sort of went either way that there wasn't going to be any sort of "magic" or any reference to supernatural occurrences.

^agreed. They try to make it look that way for sure.

This show really does it for me. It's surprising, funny, intense, emotional, touching. One of my favorite mystery shows of all time, alongside True Detectives and..I don't even remember.

The acting is All Good! I am not bothered by one acting job. It let's you really sink into the storyline. Especially the police captain. I like how fringe he can be, how his demeanor goes from reasonable to off-the-chain.

Definitely exponentially better now than the first couple of episodes. I'm kind of dreading the American Beauty father/daughters-best-friend sex subplot ripoff....but other than that, yeah im excited.
