The importance of CREATINE for PSYCHEDELIC harm reduction especially MXE

Months ago I had been using MXE/6APB together a lot and was getting some serious "brain zaps" at night on days after use... I have a very healthy lifestyle too.

It was annoying and kind of painful, but I stopped and in the meantime I had sobered up a bit. I had added Creatine Malate to my daily supplements just by chance recently. I never liked regular creatine because it bloated me, but the malate version is a lot nicer; it doesn't add water weight to your body.

Anyways, most recently I have been using MXE/6APB again with frequency... and when I am drinking 5-10g creatine malate/day... MY BRAIN FEELS AMAZING AT NIGHT ALL NIGHTS ALL THE TIME!!!

(and I did a lot the past few weeks!)

I am absolutely struck with using creatine malate as a neuroprotectant for drugs like MXE and 6APB... probably all psychedelics as well.

I used to get brain zaps after big MDMA binges years ago, but never thought about supplementing with creatine to prevent it.

It is VERY possible that powerful psychedelic drugs should be SUPPLEMENTED BY CREATINE to help your brain keep ATP levels high and HEALTHY!

I just want to spread the word because I feel like a lot of people might not know about this one, and I hope it can have the trickle down effect because creatine malate kicks ass.

Thanks man I would never have guessed that creatine would be good for your brain.

Here's a relevant journal article:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21448659
Sounds cool. Unfortunately there are no studies on its efficacy w.r.t. MDMA, but since in this particular case both compounds are considered safe, I encourage people to try it, starting with relatively low doses of each.

However, one thing you should watch out for is that creatine supplements put stress on the kidney. Since MXE is already suspected to cause kidney damage, and ketamine is known to cause kidney damage, please be extremely careful as combining creatine supplements and ketamine analogs may compound kidney damage. Therefore, when using creatine supplements, alpha-arylaminocycloalkanone dissociatives should be used infrequently if at all.

Very nice article, and thanks to the guy who already mentioned the kidney predicament, beat me to it!

Did my last message not get approved yet? Ehh... I am an old member I rejoined to provide this extremely important information.

I had made a very nice long post this morning but apparently it said it was up for moderator approval? And now I don't see it yet. Ok so here it is a second time because this is just so important...

So the principle is this: when you activate your G protein coupled receptors, they stimulate ATP to convert to cAMP by activating adenylate cyclase.

Imagine you take any type of drug that causes a large amount of release of endogenous "fun" neurotransmitters (i.e. serotonin, dopamine, adrenaline), these drugs include:

MDMA, 6APB, MXE (if it truly is a dopamine reuptake inhibitor), possibly even stuff like Prozac... ANYTHING that can cause the infamous "BRAIN ZAP" effect that I have seen so many people post about, and have felt myself many, many times.

Well when you overstimulate your serotonin and dopamine GPCRs, you're going to burn up all your ATP. This is just what GPCRs do. They are coupled to adenylyl cyclase to signal.

I believe the "BRAIN ZAP" (I used big letters because I hate it! lol) occurs when you have depleted your ATP levels in the brain.

I don't have any further hypotheses on this. It is all based on my personal anecdotal, extremely experienced use of psychedelics.

But I have noticed that when I take creatine malate daily to replenish my ATP supplies, the BRAIN ZAP problem is solved!!! My brain zaps are a thing of tomorrow!

That is, if you insist upon doing drugs like MDMA, 6APB, MXE and such for multiple days at a time like some of us happen to do.

And now THIS -->

SO for people posting about creatine having kidney issues: STFU!

First of all, look up some literature you science noobs:

Long-term oral creatine supplementation does not impair renal function in healthy athletes.
Poortmans JR, Francaux M.
Source

Chimie Physiologique, Institut Supérieur d'Education Physique et de Kinésithérapie, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium. [email protected]
Abstract
PURPOSE:

Oral creatine supplementation is widely used in sportsmen and women. Side effects have been postulated, but no thorough investigations have been conducted to support these assertions. It is important to know whether long-term oral creatine supplementation has any detrimental effects on kidney function in healthy population.
METHODS:

Creatinine, urea, and plasma albumin clearances have been determined in oral creatine consumers (10 months to 5 yr) and in a control group.
RESULTS:

There were no statistical differences between the control group and the creatine consumer group for plasma contents and urine excretion rates for creatinine, urea, and albumin. Clearance of these compounds did not differ between the two groups. Thus, glomerular filtration rate, tubular reabsorption, and glomerular membrane permeability were normal in both groups.
CONCLUSIONS:

Neither short-term, medium-term, nor long-term oral creatine supplements induce detrimental effects on the kidney of healthy individuals.

The effect of creatine intake on renal function.
Pline KA, Smith CL.
Source

College of Pharmacy, Ferris State University, Big Rapids, MI, USA.
Abstract
OBJECTIVE:

To examine the effect of creatine supplementation on renal function and estimates of creatinine clearance.
DATA SOURCES:

A MEDLINE search was conducted (1966-September 2004) using the key terms creatine, creatinine, kidney function tests, drug toxicity, and exercise. Relevant articles were cross-referenced to screen for additional information.
DATA SYNTHESIS:

Supplementation with creatine, an unregulated dietary substance, is increasingly common in young athletes. To date, few studies have evaluated the impact of creatine on renal function and estimates of creatinine clearance. Because creatine is converted to creatinine in the body, supplementation with large doses of creatine may falsely elevate creatinine concentrations. Five studies have reported measures of renal function after acute creatine ingestion and 4 after chronic ingestion. All of these studies were completed in young healthy populations. Following acute ingestion (4-5 days) of large amounts of creatine, creatinine concentrations increased slightly, but not to a clinically significant concentration. Creatinine is also only minimally affected by longer creatine supplementation (up to 5.6 y).
CONCLUSIONS:

Creatine supplementation minimally impacts creatinine concentrations and renal function in young healthy adults. Although creatinine concentrations may increase after long periods of creatine supplementation, the increase is extremely limited and unlikely to affect estimates of creatinine clearance and subsequent dosage adjustments. Further studies are required in the elderly and patients with renal insufficiency.

Also one thing I left out from the original post, you should use creatine malate instead of regular creatine because the malate form is much easier to digest. Creatine itself is insoluble in water, and hard to drink for some.

The malate form is much better.

But either will still do if you are not into buying a slightly more expensive supplement... creatine malate is real cheap anyways. Regular creatine is dirt cheap... at least in my books. Just harder to get down your throat.

So that is if anyone else gets those fun brain zaps after those multi-day stimulant drug binges. . . . . . . . . . and wants to stop it!

Haha dude... for one, creatinine is not the same as creatine. When you have very high creatinine levels, it means you basically used up all your creatine.

I actually posted in your thread a minute ago. ;-P

The "Brain zap" I get is like a feeling inside my head of pressure... almost like a jolt of electricity "zaps" my brain. It happens to me in days after I would abuse stimulants like MDMA or MXE/6APB for multiple days in a row, just like yourself was recently.

I would usually get it at night, when trying to sleep, but could never figure out what caused it. Well I figured it out. It is because when you use certain strong stimulants repetitively you use up a specific nutrient in your brain, and if you don't have that nutrient... well, when I don't have that nutrient I get the "brain zap" effect.

Its not deadly, but it sure does suck and I'd like to avoid it at all costs. And it is a hint that something is wrong with the general "harm protection" procedures that we have grown accustomed to... that they are not entirely complete. Well this helps a damn lot.

I hope you understand the jist of what I posted. If not let me know.

Roger THIS IS A MASSIVE DISCOVERY!!!!!

I really might have to test this pretty soon probably the next time I try MDMA if I end up picking up some creatine before then.

just like yourself was recently.
I've never experienced electricity zapping my brain feelings.

I am experiencing extreme death anxiety and chest/kidney/heart pains. Extra gravity, and shortness of breath.

The data you posted says "accept for renal insufficiency".
That's me.
Further studies are required in the elderly and patients with renal insufficiency.
'I'm not touching the shit with a ten foot pole.
I've played guinea pig enough.
I am no longer a study. Just a statistic.

And it is a hint that something is wrong with the general "harm protection" procedures that we have grown accustomed to... that they are not entirely complete.

A complete harm protection procedure for an easy ++++ drug. Gee, I wonder what would happen... 8)

Oh you scientists, you so silly.

You took creatine and ameliorated some vaguely defined maladies? You've stumbled upon a breakthrough I tells you. 8)

Exactly. Yawn. Or, following the lead of the OP, should that be YAWN!! to really drive my point home? A little bit of information can be a dangerous thing in the wrong hands. Never trust a zealot. Never trust anything but measurable and repeatable data . . .

Alright you Juniors:

Do you guys want to know how bluelight got started? 8o

There was a news story post on the lycaeum.org forums circa 1999 about the death of a kid from a drug OD, I thought it was MDMA/ectasy but I cannot remember exactly.

I first posted there (when I was in high school) trying to start some type of a discussion about how it might have been preventable, if he could have known more about the drug and what it did to him... if he had more information about it available to him.

I was real young at the time. The lycaeum guys didn't really dig it, their forum at the time wasn't really about harm reduction (more just about drug culture, which I had just gotten into) so the actual discussion there faded away.

BUT

Someone (from Europe, I lived in Indiana, USA at the time) PMd and later e-mailed me and said they liked the idea and they wanted to take it further.

I told them I was so young I had no money, was busy in high school and could not start a website or anything like that, but gave whoever that person was my ideas to START A DRUG HARM REDUCTION WEBSITE. <3

Then they took it and ran (RANNNNNNNN) with it. Now look what we have. Kudos to whoever that was... perhaps they have been wondering about me as well? ;)

Its pretty funny actually, I forgot about this for a long time and remembered it only weeks ago. (this is what smoking lots of bad pot :p does to the mind of a youngster; weakens their memory)

So I am offering this as help to anyone who wants to make things a bit easier on their brain, after they indulge into too much psychedelic stimulant use... please accept it with love. <3<3<3

THIS IS EXACTLY WHY I WANTED THIS SITE TO EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE!

So there you have it, and please do not discredit my education. I have been working very hard between 1999 to now and studying very relevant things. ;-)

I am simply trying to get you all to realize that supplementing creatine is a wise thing to do if you have binged on psychedelic stimulants and suffered from the "brain zap" effect. I have had it so, so many times in my life... finally I figured out.

ATP BABY

Some of you people wouldn't know cause and effect if it slapped you in the face. I don't doubt that creatine may have healthful effects, but it's not a magical neuroprotectant any more than having a good well balanced diet is

@wondrous - so you started bluelight as well? Ok, Im convinced. Vague subjective reasoning is all the proof I need.

FWIW discovering Jesus cured me of my brain zaps. Don't believe me? Prove it. Can't measure it? Doesn't fit within the currently accepted framework? Well, I CAN TELL. With my spirit!
