I like this post and the opportunity to share. If nobody would ever guess you get high or suppose nethings up, AND you piss "clean" then its all good.

Freedom exists for those who get in shape by jumpin thru the hoops. If ur not in shape and somebody knows, then some more hoops and jumpin will help ya.

And as far as the "holdin it together" part of things, well, every silver lining has its cloud, rite? :)

Ps: happiness is relative, so besides those around you and how they feel about their own circumstances. Its how u would feel about you. More specifically an average of all the yes' a and no's.

Rite now, im happy. +1 :) (at work, time to stock cups and make coffee. One love)

I also define being clean as being off your DoC. And even tho my DoC is oxy, I sure as fk wouldn't consider subox as anything pleasureable (but for the first dose(if u lucky) or if u fk around and IV it), so yeah take what you gotta to get you off the drug that's doing the most damage.

Clean = living life (am so tempted to say on life's terms lol).

I'd have to say technically 1, but practically 4.

I haven't increased dosages/frequency or moved to a pattern of abuse with anything, so I'd consider myself "clean" even though I use a lot of drugs. I've gone weeks/months at a time here and there without using any particular drug, and never felt redosing compulsions. I compare my drug use more to a hobby than something central to my life, if anything I'm more addicted to the internet and reading about drugs than actually doing them. If I were facing losing my internet connection or not buying drugs, I'd sacrifice the drugs. Fortunately I got into bitcoin early enough for that not to be an issue for the foreseeable future =D

do you consider someone on suboxone as being clean?

I wanted to get some people's opinions on whether or not you consider somebody who takes suboxone daily for matinence as being clean or as still in active addiction and has only simply switched their drug of choice. This was brought up in a conversation I had with my new best friend on blue light SaraJenni and she said a lot of people consider themselves clean who take bupe. I myself don't I can't sit up in A.A. meetings and say I've got this much time clean sober as long as I'm taking sub's I figure I'm still dependent on opiates. It feels like I'm lying to everyone who has truly worked hard to get clean and sober or that I'm cheating in a way so I never say in sober when on sub's I say no im not quite clean I'm on suboxone.
I remember I used to get mad at a old buddy who went on the methadone program and always told me I need to get clean and what not while he was on 120 mls of methadone (100mls too much for this guy) and he would nod out all day and say how high that Valium he took before his dose made him then in the same breath he would say "yep it feels good to be clean and sober you should really man up and quit doing drugs too" lol I got sooo mad at this guy when he said crap like that I mean I went to dinner at his house since he is my boss's step son and the guy was falling asleep in his mashed potatoes literally hahaha my boss would say what's wrong are you high and he would say no man I just took an anxiety pill that's all lol he always said that.
Anyways enough rambling I'd like to hear from you!

Hmm, a tough question indeed. My take on the situation is maintenance medication is almost a halfway point between sober and 'junkie'.

Taking subs/done in an effort to not be sick for a few days is still using in my book, if the user is only using them to keep withdrawals at bay until they can find their next shot.

However, taking maint. meds to ACTUALLY get clean, make it through PAWS and everything else, and plans on tapering, I'd say they're making an attempt, which is a huge step.

I agree obviously taking it to keep you well whenever you run out of your D.O.C. isn't anywhere near clean. But I just meant somebody who plans on staying on it for a long time and wants to stay away from hard drugs

I consider someone clean when they consider themselves clean, assuming they have admitted and accepted addition in the past.

For some thats Bupe or Done in the correct dose, by personally and professionally in my practice, I don't use the word "clean" as strictly as some in AA/NA might like.

I consider myself clean when I don't suffer w/d when I am 100% sober. I can even be using sometimes, as long as I'm not dependent I can be "clean" whenever I'm not using. Once hooked im not clean again till after PAWs are done.

This isn't a tough question at all... is the person still on an opioid? There's your answer.

I wouldn't say they are "clean", but if they are using it legitimately to maintain themselves then I wouldn't put them on the level of "junkie" either. It's simply just acceptable if used the responsible way I'd say.

Clean

To me if you need benzos methadone or sub with the intention of comming off a plan I think your clean . Sometimes the grip is so tight that these substance used as intended work , I used kol and kratom to come off alcohol and still use kratom ocassionally for minor pain. Please use common sense and logic .

I think it's a different between 2 and 3. The difference is a bit of weed and a bit of drinking. If you've never been addicted then being "clean" would be drinking a bit and smoking a bit of weed. If you have been addicted, being clean would be none of them. Or even if you were a heavy recreational user, even a bit of weed and drinking wouldn't be considered clean. Like, I'm not addicted but heavy recreational user and I don't think I'd be clean unless I did none of those things... except anything prescribed to me.

Voted for #3, I think if you're taking a drug like methadone or bupe and that keeps you from using, therefore you start to better your life, that's fine. If you also CAN smoke a bit of weed or have A FEW drinks, that's okay, as long as you're continuing to better your life and stay away from your drug of choice, it's not an issue. I will say though that some people really can't just smoke a small amount of weed, or just have a few drinks or not start using harder drugs again after drinking or smoking weed.

Number 4. Being clean is when you have your DOC in your drawer but you aren't compelled to take it. And if you do take it you can go months and months without taking it again.

meh, I said 3. I consider myself clean off of heroin for over 3 years now. almost 4. but in those 4 years I have definitely used multiple opiates recreationally. I've also used cocaine, amphetamines (once), alcohol (weekly) and marijuana (daily).

I have not used heroin since before june of 2010. I am clean.

I have not shot up save one time (coke) since june of 2010. I am clean.

some people who don't have as strong of willpower might HAVE to be entirely clean of all drugs in order to stay clean. but there are most definitely people who can still go back to using drugs the way they were meant to be used. in moderation.

pot heads! have you ever experienced a "free high"? that weird thing that happens to some people that hasn't smoked for like a week or so and out of nowhere you get a mild to semi-heavy high because of the little quantity of thc left in your body. at least for me, being clean means you have no residual drugs in your system that affect your mind in a way you/others could notice... with the exceptions being drugs that you need to continue being functional, and i mean that in a literal way like one having schizophrenia or so.... i hate the way 'muricans get mind altering substances prescribed without a serious reason, it's just not natural to drug an entire population for the profit. there is no well drawn line between those two though, i dont want to get polemical.

do critizise my english (not my born laguage)
2nd post!
