the guitar players megathread

I've been playing for a little under 2 years now. I love it. I fiend for it when I haven't played in a while. I'm better with the electric, but I play both. I play some classical on my steel string acoustic as well, I don't really like nylon stringed guitars.
Playing guitar is one of those few things in life I can do and just forget about everything else. I get completely submerged in doing just that, and I think that is one of the things I like most about it.

I need to start writing down some of the stuff i make up more often...

damn i wanna play now.

ahh those were the days :( how I long for yesterday

nylon are bad when you want to bend-pull then (if you are into that)

edvard, im not sure how much money you want to put into this, but that amp is probably crap, im not sure how much you care about that either, the advantage of a acoustic is that you dont have to buy a amp, so all you money goes into the guitar, here i can get a great new acoustic for 200$, when it come to electric if you put 100$ on the guitar and 100$ on the amp, youll need to check in the used and be lucky to get something good (imo)

another advantage of the acoustic is that you can move freely with it, i mean you can play on the toilet or outside or anywhere you care to bring her

but yeah for starting out non hurting finger is a must for keeping on practicing, thats where vodka comes in hand ;)

as for the acoustic sound, i dont know, my electric sound pretty decent when its not plug, to the point where sometimes ill bring it along to play outside (not plugged) but thats me, do you really need a amp ? how about using headphone (and a pre)?

Aye, I rarely even have my guitar plugged up to an amp and I have few places in the house such as sitting on my staircase which have great acoustics and I can just sit there for ages playing (provided no one is in the house).

Cool video ninja. :D

I wanna upload one too, but Youtube is taking the piss. I'll try again tomorrow.

Me and my SG, stoned playing a gig :)

If you bear it, eventually your finger tips will callous appropriately but it still hurts to get to that point.

A good option for you, if you're interested, is using nylon strings. Nylon strings are used for classical guitars and do not hurt the finger tips at all, which is great. Another option is to merely go electric as you don't have to push down the string nearly hard enough than that of an electric. If you still prefer the acoustic sound, however, you can get an acoustic-electric guitar which can pick up on the acoustics.

I will not bear it! It's too hard to make the chord when all I can think of is "Strum, Ow that hurts, Strum, Ow that hurts, Strum, Christ that really hurts". Will definitely look into the nylon option though :) Ideal would be electric so I can emulate my favourite shoegaze bands and experiment with droning riffs and distortion. I have a feeling this would require a lot of funding though.

If anything having your fingers beat up like that will train you not to fret the strings too hard. Quit bein such a vag. ;)

Ive been playin for years but only in the past 5 months or so have I gotten serious about developing 'teknique'... My current project is learning the entire "metal dog" section from paul gilbert's terrifying guitar trip.

Obviously this is ambitous but i'm coming along very quickly. I only took a break to fuck around on blulight cause im doin one hand pinkie exercises and my right hand is free. I play an esp ltd viper with seymour duncan pu's and .10-.50 strings. seems like most other guitars i pick up have spiderwebs for strings and i cant fuckin play em.

also, to the original poster... your strings rattle cause its a cheap ass 75 dolla guitar, u get what ya pay for. also, youll have a hard time finding a decent semi hollow for that price. actually, maybe not if u buy it used... see whats out there, ibanez makes pretty economical instruments that still function ok.

peace!

edit: alright u said acoustic-electric (not semi-hollow) but the same still pretty much applies.

I've been noodling on the guitar for over 20 years and I am teh SUCK.

I have a Esteban acoustic I got for $50 (no hat) and a First Act Paul Westerberg model (love it):

Also a black Fender 12-string acoustic with crosses as fret inlays; very Johnny Cash.

I love Strats, though. There's supposed to be a Billy Corgan Signature model out in the next year or two; I should start saving.

For some reason I'm unable to upload my video to youtube. I think the file's too big as it's taking forever to upload.
:(

What do I need to do?. It seems a shame as I went to the the effort of making the damn thing.

Ninj? help a girl out :D <3

It's 160 MB and 2min 50 sec long.

I've tried uploading it for almost an hour on seperate occasions and still no joy.

Oh, yeah, ... most affirmatively that amp is crap, but I live in an apartment building which loud sounds, like a knob turned up high in an electric, would definately be bothersome for neighbors, so a small amp I wouldn't mind at all.

That leads me to a question: I know some about guitars, but I know very little about amps and I was just wondering does the size and wattage of amp mainly determine the quality of sound (no buzzing, full range of tones, limited feedback)? This is given that no distortion or effects are used, because obviously that alters it, but what makes a good amp good other than size?

I see. It sounds like you have very soft, small, ... delicate, .... sensual ... hands.
