So i was watching the news this morning, and apparently there is a government petition or bill goin on that would call for the insertion of Niacin in all oxycodone IR pills. The reasoning being you can't get high if you snort them with niacin as part of the filler in the pill.

Now lets discuss; if this were to actually happen, and this bill is passed, how long would it take for every company out there to have to start putting niancin in their pills?

So if this passes, all the blues and greens (roxycodone) would have to be consumed orally or smoked. Now you can still abuse them orally, and smoking them is the most harmful way to injest the drug. So what's the government actually trying to do? This is just ridiculous to me. :X

How much niacin? I don't get it, is it just that much extra filler that it's pointless or it hurts when you snort it?

All I know about niacin is that in high doses it makes you itchy. And people recommend it to kill bad trips.

First off, IVing is the worst ROA.

Just eat them, it's the next highest Bioavailability to IVing and it's safe.

Niacin makes sense, it's harmless but SUPER irritating to nasal passages (think snorting wasabi)

are you sure it's niacin??
could it maybe be naltrexone or naloxone? and maybe you heard wrong?

No, he is correct about it being niacin.

Apparently the addition of niacin is meant to dissuade people from snorting or injecting the pill, as well as deter people from taking too much. It states that niacine irritates the nasal passage and also gels up terribly when mixed with water (making injection very difficult).

The problem with all of this is people are always going to abuse drugs. This will just lead to increased injury and harm to those that abuse pills.

It really is ridiculous. They are treating people who abuse drugs like pesky animals who raid your garden. It's like putting harmful chemicals on your flowers so that any animal that eats them will get sick. Just terrible.-DG

No shit!

Now we will just have to figure out how to seperate the Niacin/gel from the Oxycodone.

What solvent is Niacin soluble in that Oxycodone isn't?

You could have anaphylactic shock as a result of IVing niacin if you were allergic to it.

Why do they want to put Niacin in pills anyways? People with regular diets and good health consume enough B3 most of the time anyways.

I'm still trying to research the particle size, apparently you want to dilute 2mg of niacin to every mL for IV; I'm not sure what would happen if you were to go above it.

How much niacin are they planning on putting in what milligram pills?

Heroin's going nowhere guys. ;) No need to freak out.

The government needs to focus on harm reduction for drug users rather than intentionally make it more dangerous for us in another ShitForBrains attempt to stop people from using drugs. We are never going to stop as long as substances that change the way we feel exist on this planet, so either learn to look the other way or help us do it safely. The American government is just such bullshit i need to Get The Fuck Out of this country.

And as mentioned above what about people who are allergic to Niacin? I'm sure they will be happy when the government takes away their pain medication in another attempt to control our lives.

Niacin is an essential vitamin (vitamin B3) - the allergic reaction occurs in some people with intravenous injection of niacin (sometimes B vitamins and vitamin C are IV'd in a hospital setting).

What's going to happen is it's just going to end up hurting some people, while others will micron filter and dilute it to perfection.

Furthermore, brand name OC's are only 30%-ish active ingredient anyways, so it's already somewhat not IV friendly. Talc being one of the inactive ingredients, you would want to micron filter it anyways for IV use.

I concur with you though, I can't wait to leave this country and never come back! At the very least I will be moving to California.

this should be in like north and south american drug discussion.

this is not OD material.

Why don't people just take oxy orally? The BA is higher.. does snorting give a worthwhile rush? I might have 5mg no apap oxy soon, so if there's some interesting reason to I could try snorting some...

I think it's disgusting that people are willing to do things that would harm people trying to abuse medications. I understand trying to prevent abuse, but doing something that could hurt someone is uncalled for. That's like putting landmines on property surrounded by fences with No Trespassing signs. If you go on the property and get your legs blown off, oh well, you shouldn't have came on the property. No, things don't work that way and there is no reason they should be allowed to.

smoking them is the most harmful way to injest the drug

Just wanted to insert this: I know that the OP didn't suggest smoking them (in fact, he said not to), but I thought it would be good to note that you should NEVER NEVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES smoke niacin.

Think about what would happen if you snorted it, but in your lungs. Not fun.

Niacin even sucks when you eat it.

We used to take them when i was in drug court as a kid when our number got called for piss tests because people said they helped you clean your urine. (I don't even think this is true).

But it felt like you had a damn sunburn when you took a handful of those bitches. i really hope this doesn't happen.

Is this just going to happen with roxi's? because i have never seen them prescribed in my state anyways.

I can see this happening.

To every single preperation of oxycodone? Doubt it. My prediction is one or two of the manufactures will try this, it will either work and knock down abuse, hurt people using the preperation, or it won't change anything and will be phased out until the next great idea comes along.

Even if it became mandated that all oxycodone products had to contain niacin, it would take years and years before it started reaching the hands of users (and abusers).
