I wrote this about a friend of mine
Once upon a time she was happy
The world was hers to seize
But that all changed in an instant
Harsh like an unexpected viperous breeze
She looked into the mirror one day
And despised the reflection
Tears began to well in her eyes
The girl that used to smile
Now only cries
As droplets ran down her cheek
She curled her fist into a ball
Without a second thought
Into the mirror it was hurled
Slithers of glass dropped to the floor
Broken just like her life
Shards began to pierce her skin
With more precision than any knife
The pain is minor as her skin is torn
It’s only her heart that aches
As the recalls the events of the weeks before
He left her battered and bleeding
The tiny life that was growing inside her –
exists no more
She loves him still
It’s the fear that drives her passion
Afraid of what will happen if she turns the other way
So she surrenders to his vicious will
Day after heinous day
The hand she once held
Has perished her
The eyes she once adored
Are filled with rage
But unable to free herself
She remains trapped in this cage
Once upon a time she was happy
The world was hers to seize
But that all changed in an instant
Harsh like an unexpected viperous breeze
She looked into the mirror one day
And despised the reflection
Tears began to well in her eyes
The girl that used to smile
Now only cries
As droplets ran down her cheek
