Staring at the bare faced girl I'm getting to know
While fog still eats the corners of the mirror
I prepare myself for the meeting.
Foundation.
It's been a while since I last saw him,
I wonder if he'll notice the change in my eyes
Or the fact I'm holding my chin
Just a little bit higher.
One thing's for sure
He won't notice my haircut.
Eyeliner.
He had a party last week
I wonder why I wasn't invited
(I know exactly why I wasn't invited)
Life moves on so much faster then emotions do.
Eyeshadow.
I think of the things I'll talk about and how he'll react
Dropped out of uni (disgust)
Moving out of home (approve)
With two guys (disapprove)
Parents seperated (worry)
And of things that will go unsaid
Dating again
I miss you
Are you using again?
I miss you
Mascara.
I hope he won't realise
I spent an hour choosing this outfit
Because its not like I really care what he thinks.
Liar.
I bet he wears his blue shirt.
...The one I bought him.
Blush.
I practice that welcoming smile
The one that says
Everything is great
I'm so happy to see you
I hope you've been good
And let's do this again.....
Why did I ever agree to this?
Lipstick (red).
Now my mask is in place
Tear ducts frozen
Heart is protected
Thoughts are....screaming
I step into his car
And his smell is overwhelming.
He's wearing the blue shirt.
"I love your hair!"
Panic.
I hate this.
 
Again, as usual, always, yet never boring, a continually scathingly accurate appraisal of human relationships & interactions.

i do this too.... spend forever trying to make myself look so much better than i did the last time he saw me.... but then its like he doesnt even notice. (or does he? pretty good at faking it)

You could have taken this from my brain, I always know exactly how the conversations gonna go when I catch up with someone I have a history with, I pick the safe answers, make sure those unsaid things cant come up so I dont have to feel vulnerable by letting her see how I realy am....
