somewhere in my mind
Let’s play this game one more time.
I’ll play the fool.
You play the court.
I will dance for you at your whim.
I will paint my face to hide the grim
reality.
It would not do to see you sad,
so I will play the clown for you.
Do I pass as happy?
Will my act fulfill your fantasy?
Behind my mask, my face is wet.
It drips off my chin,
you may call it sweat.
It would not fit our little game
to see me cry.
To ruin such an illusion
would be a shame.

I like this poem as much now as when I first read it. That's not to say I like the situation or implied motivation behind the words -- but the way in which you presented it is absolutely beautiful. This, and so many other things I've read and reread of yours these last few months... it reminds me of why I've missed your writing so much.

quite a little poem about truth in the eyes of someone stuck inside and not willing to step out,,, great work!
