The Ferguson thread / additional race discussion

For all this talk of a white culture in America, and considering that whites have been intermixing since colonial times, I don't even see a homogenous white culture.

Yeah i don't see the term white meaning anything today not that it was ever anything more then a social structure to fit people in mind you. I mean i'm mostly Irish with abit of Scots and Norman French in there so your typical islander mix more or less :\ . Depending on where you go here the accent could sound Irish, English or French. The latter are mostly on the west coast as St.Pierre and Miquelon is not far from there. There never even was a sense of National identity identity until well after confederation with Canada. Before then the Irish, English, Scots and French just had there own culture and still do in many rural places here so maybe that's why i am somewhat shocked at how seriously some people actually care what color someone is. Racism was something new to me when i went to the mainland. Sectarianism i had seen the results of first hand but not racism.

I used to never really identify with 'white'. To be honest, I still don't, totally, always. But it is just a word. It perhaps imperfectly describes a group of people. You can very often say, "yea, he is white", just like you can say he is black. And yea, we are all different.

And I mean, I'm just me. My color is reddish. And that's another reason I can like white. They show emotions differently. They blush (yes others do but it is harder to detect, and variation less noticable at least/it is less pronounced). They are more transparent. I don't know what to say. I just don't want their beauty and uniqueness being totally blended away in 500 years or something with nonstop lifehunters from faraway and different nations. Higher birthrate. More coming. I'm not saying 'whites' will become extinct, or blended away totally. And I'm not sure about the time table.

Honestly, it probably won't happen (well I'm trying to be optimistic). Something will change and hopefully we won't be the prime destinations. Maybe a proper balance to life, where people can thrive where they are, if they want. Though travel and seeing others, and things, is positive... But you have to see how this isn't good really, as is.

And hey what drives it on this level? Resources. Scarcity of them. Money. Demand. Money. Certain imbalance.

I also like the color that I see much more pronounced on the genitals and nipples (and lips) of white females. Red/pink is a turn on. Pheomelanin is a pigment that is found for sure at a higher ratio in whites, especially in blonds and redheads. It is thought to be involved in sexual signalling.

Antonio Martin, Black Teenager, Fatally Shot By Police 2 Miles From Ferguson

The Huffington Post | By Sebastian Murdock

A black teen was fatally shot by an officer on Tuesday night just two miles from Ferguson, Missouri, police said.

Antonio Martin, 18, who police say pointed a gun at the officer, was shot late Tuesday night at a Mobil gas station in Berkeley, Missouri, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. The alleged victim's mother, Toni Martin, confirmed to the Post-Dispatch that her son had been shot by police.

The Associated Press has details:

County police spokesman Sgt. Brian Schellman says a Berkeley police officer was conducting a routine business check at a gas station around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday when he saw two men and approached them.

Schellman says one of the men pulled a handgun and pointed it at the officer. The officer fired several shots, striking and fatally wounding the man. Schellman says that the second person fled and that the deceased man's handgun has been recovered.

The Berkeley Police Department requested that St. Louis County Police Department's Crimes Against Persons Unit handle the investigation, the St. Louis County Police Department noted on its Facebook page.

"At this time, we cannot confirm the identity of the deceased subject. The investigation is on-going and further details will be provided as the investigation proceeds," the Facebook notice said.

The hashtag #AntonioMartin is trending on social media. Those at the scene, along with the Post-Dispatch, report about 60 to 100 people gathered around the gas station where the shooting took place.

Livestreams at the scene show residents verbally clashing with police. A woman identified as Martin's mother can be heard sobbing "That's my baby!" on the feed.

So what what? I'm posting a news article, is that permitted? Whats YOUR point? Is it ok to point guns at the police and not expect to get gunned down or is this just another example of out of control racist police killing black people for no reason?

This is what I was referring to.

And you're not just posting an article you're trying to rehash this bullshit:

Is it ok to point guns at the police and not expect to get gunned down or is this just another example of out of control racist police killing black people for no reason?

How is that bullshit? I was just assuming what most posters in this section's sentiment would be. But whatever... If you point a gun at a cop you're gonna get shot. Too bad, so sad. It just pisses me off how this is just going to further the racial divide happening in the US due to the racebaiters, media, and African American community refusing to take any responsibility for their actions. Bring on the race war I guess.

How is that bullshit?

1. The dead horse doesn't even exist anymore because it's been beaten so rampantly.
2. The argument is ridiculous (and you know it), and it also happens to fall under #1.

If you point a gun at a cop you're gonna get shot.

no shit. We don't need 80 pages debating this.

Bring on the race war I guess.

That's what it's looking like. Protests haven't worked in 60 years. Organized, structured, positive and strategic community building organizations like the Black Panthers didn't work. They openly carried rifles and swore to use them in self defense only. They'd be shot on the spot today.

Looks like an offensive is underway.

That video doesnt show much. Many a media outlet has been race baiting. One claimed the guy was unarmed. I still find it hard to believe that the kid/guy was pointing the weapon at the officer, but then again maybe he is one of the ones to make the supposed I.Q. of the average Black drop to 85 or so, or he was messed up somehow. Mentally ill. Or they had stuff on them. The friend took off. I heard the police were investigating a robbery. Maybe the friend was just scared he was next. I honestly don't know the mindset or what happened. Of course.

I wonder if we (theywe) should focus on hiring more women police. And have them work in pairs. Studies have shown, from what I've heard, that situations where women officers/doctors/nurses are the present ones around unstable/psychotic people, the situations less often escalate to violence. My wording doesn't nail it quite right, but I do think women might be better police sometimes. I think a feminine touch could help.

I keep imagining drones like from the new RoboCop or something out of a Neil Blomkamp movie, being the 'police' or protection units/law enforcement droids. Not necessarily to rule or be a tool of a ruling power but to facilitate the will of the people. Of course violence wouldn't be the will of the people. It would be so much better for the police officer to be able to take a bullet or 20 (or 100...), to get it all recorded, and the robot could then just fire something non-lethal at the person.

But, I'm stuck between this, and thinking, really, why should I give a fuck? I can grow a better human in a maturation chamber in 7 days than this malformed dickwad from a vagina.

And then I might decide to go skynet on our asses. No. I might think about it.

Anyways, it would be awesome if a cop could take some bullets to his/her dome and just have them ping and dong off, but they die if they get hit, likely.

It is amazing to see or hear how quickly people showed up to protest. As if they already knew the story. Both sides, really, including what I have heard from the 'right'.

I really may choose skynet and eugenics and paradise engineering. Maybe recreate Adam and Eve or something in an artificial parallel (?) universe or something, or in a quantum computer. Hmm.

We encourage people to include some sort of analysis or commentary on the links that they post. This tends to cultivate far better discussion than just posting articles/videos sans any explanation.

this whole issue should be about the fact that we live in a police state, not race. race is an important topic but it's the wrong one to focus on right now IMO.

anyone else sick of obama always wanting "a conversation" on shit?

It's not about race. It's about unequal institutional power and the militarization of our police. Those who happen to catch the wrong end of the stick though, tend to be people of color.

Race is certainly a key aspect, on many different levels. But the larger issue here isn't race at all.

Er...I am very wary of pretty much any claims to what the 'larger issue' is. Yes, it is not 'just race', but this case of institutionalized oppression is clearly shaped by a wider pattern of disparate conditions allocated largely according to race. Yes, 'it' is capitalism, systemic racism, bureaucratized monopolization of legitimated violence, and hierarchical authority in general; it is all these things, as the status-quo social system allocates disparate condition according to a complex constellation of intersecting identities and class-based conditions.

when you make assumptions and criticise people for something they haven't even said, how is that not bullshit?

droppers would lump me in with "you liberals" and i think that if you point a gun at a cop and end up dead that's pretty much your own stupid fault. how does that fit into your assumptions?
