Germany approved it's first ever minimum wage of this year. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-28140594

They must have magically managed to be the strongest economy of Europe without it prior to this.

Ooo, the wonders of magic!

This isn't entirely true, while there may be a federal minimum wage just now making it into law, the German government had been subsidizing wages for decades. It was part of a scheme where worker's hours were reduced to avoid lay-offs, while the german government paid off the worker's lost wages. This program saved germany from the recent financial crisis. Are you familiar with the mittelstand? Much of the business in germany is small (often family owned), it's not overrun by monolithic corporate domination. The large corporations that DO exist, rely almost entirely on this mittelstand. Because the productive economy is so decentralized, and demand from larger corporations is so high, the government will subsidize any lost wage and these small businesses can afford to pay higher wages to their employees while also keeping down unemployment, they've done fairly well without a minimum wage.

This is the part where you change your mind and call Germany a socialist nanny state. In the US, if my hours are cut, I'm just fucked. I have to go out to buy a pair of boots to pull on the straps for awhile.

And this is where I exit until you actually start engaging in what I say rather than ignore everything.

No you aren't, there's a bevy of social programs in the United States.

I was just relaying BBC article:

"Lobbyists have also claimed that the policy would make Germany less competitive. However others have been angered by concessionary measures, including a two-year grace period for some employers to phase in the policy.
Additionally, the wage does not cover minors, interns, trainees or long-term unemployed people for their first six months at work."

^I just found it interesting that long term unemployed are exempt from the minimum wage and some employer's get a 2 year grace period.

Kind of a concession that it's not great for business especially when 6 other members of the EU don't have a minimum wage according to the article.

Which program pays me my lost wages if my hours are reduced? Direct me to that department, please. Can't pay rent with footstamps.

Yes, that's bizarre. A lot of shit is bizarre and ought to be something else. Minimum wages should be effective for everyone immediately once they're put into law.

I don't know I use a program called American Express or my banks "savings account".

There are however rent-assistance programs in the USA, there is Section 8, TANF (straight up cash every month), WIC (free baby formula and other stuff).

Nah, lol people out of work for a long time I think would rather take a lower wage and have money and start working then not have the jobs open up because the new minimum wage rise has constricted the labour market. With any product as the price of it goes up, demand generally goes down, as the price of labour goes up, naturally demand of it goes down. That's why Germany haa put in this provision.

such glamour

Right, but who reimburses my wages when my hours are cut?

I take it you've never applied for any of these programs.

You may need to explain this better.

The programs are giving away "free: money. Do we need a specific program for every event? The "Car broke down and have no way to get to work" fund, the "mom is sick in another state and don't have money for airfare" fund, I could go on. But there are government programs for those in need to get help, simple as that. If I start working somewhere my first week I work 40 hours then the next week I'm on 30 hours, logically speaking I wouldn't expect to get 40 hours every week.

You may need to explain this better.

As you mentioned your hours were cut, when businesses have to pay people more per hour that's a possible consequence.

Simply put Germany recognized those who are unemployed would accept lower wages and earn some money rather than looking for jobs and having no luck because employers were contracting their work force and hours to handle the new higher costs of having workers. It's not too hard to understand.

The witness that testified "[Michael Brown] charged [the police officer] like a football player, head down" in the grand jury trial seems to be a racist felon who was nowhere near the scene and only came forward after the police version of events hit the news. She also has previously lied to police, admits to having a faulty memory, and is mentally ill.

- The Smoking Gun

A good number of witnesses were found to be lying. Even Dorian Johnson, one of Brown's best friends, he was adamant Brown was shot in the back when he clearly wasn't. There was plenty of witnesses that weren't there that said he had his hands up and didn't charge they were trying to get an indictment and lied about their presence at the scene.

OMG what is not racist hate speech anymore to you people, except for agreeing with you, and stuff?

LosBlancos, no offense man but I wish I hadn't watched that video. I didn't hear him change his story enough. And a part was repeated. I was waiting for him to say that yea Mike did assault him, like I thought he eventually did admit.

Straw-men not holding sufficient currency in internet debate? Post them in image-macro form for maximal impact!

Good job: I'm sure innumerable posters have found this insightfully apt image pivotally transformational in their understanding of contemporary race-relations.

This story was framed as "White Officer Shoots Unarmed Black Teen".

If you choose any other news story involving a minority shooting a white person you won't see the races mentioned by the mainstream media.

A headline like "Black Man Shoots Unarmed White Woman" would be far too inflammatory.

The "racist" point does hold merit, it's the trump card that leftists pull when presented with statistics, facts and reason.

that is because the inbalance inherent in american race relations is there to begin with. you ignore this inconvenient fact incessantly.

nice fantasy there. this is not true in any way. that meme is ridiculous. your stats are simplifications in order to skew "facts" for no other reason than to support your predetermined prejudices.

The other "fail" in the meme is that there was no debate taking place.
Just lost whitey spouting off his usual bigoted shit.
