Look up Barbexiclone. Not used in the US, but very widely used across the world, there's very complete information on PK/PD, etc. (phenobarbital + propylhexedrine) .
It was supposedly used as an appetite suppressant and as an antidepressant in Russia, but I've never found documentation that satisfied these claims. There may be something out there because I was working on a research paper.
At any rate there is long-standing proof of the good safety profile of PPX (used to offset phenobarbital sedation in a first line antiseizure drug? that's safe). This has been an annoyance for a long time, where people claim that PPX causes all kinds of irreversible damage or whatever. It's bullshit; oral PPX is quite safe. However, the dosages in Barbexiclone (close to 50% of 25-100mg tablets) and those purportedly as an appetite suppressant (~50-100mg/dose) are nowhere near the recreational doses used here. It apparently was used mainly for adolescents and older children, but not adults.
