NEMD The EMO Thread 💔

on some levels emo is just something that makes people feel kind of sad and nostalgic from what i hear... that's why i get that some of the stuff you guys were posting... but a lot of people are trying to separate that historically.

like part of me would consider bruce springsteen to be pretty emo, but if you dissect the music, there's other stuff going on. on an emotional level though it can make people feel exactly the same.. same with 80''s metal like def leopard or whatever else.

then again with a song like "be quiet and drive" by deftones or something like a lot of bush songs, it's not going to be called emo as well altough it has a lot of the same stuff going on musically.. that's a lot closer to emo musically than something like bruce springsteen or 80's metal... it can bring out the same emotion in people no matter what's going on musically though. there are songs in almost every genre with particular emotion feels that bring out the same stuff in people.

not really offended if that post is seriously posted because "emo" stands for emotional, or it's a joke.. Him - one of the bands posted above isn't really considered emo either if you go by people that take a lot of pride in "emo scene". if you view the reddit "what is emo" is taken pretty seriously by some people.

rites of spring is the name of the first emo band. that happened in the mid 80's. they really only have a couple parts in their music that is melodic, and even those parts aren't as melodic as normal emo. they are more of a punk band, and as opposed to melodic style notes it's more rock and roll, i'm not sure of the exact scales, but the sound is similar to like rock a billy or blues tones imo, which aren't very melodic. it's not a very melodic rock sound... as time went on emo got super melodic. rites of spring supposedly never seriously took on the term emo i've heard, and that it was just a joke review term in under ground magazines...

through the 90's emo evolved as melodic hardcore/punk music, and eventually for a lot of people the definition turned into the sound of the compilation series on the deep elm record label "the emo diaries." the best one is "emo diaries volume 3" imo. i've heard people on reddit agree.... while the more melodic and pop oriented emo sound was going on, there was a brand of harder and more underground music brewing that people considered emo. they would use melodic chords like some metal and have a lot of screaming as opposed to the more emotional singing in the more pop punk sounding type emo.

you can see on reddit emo forums today the divide between people that think the more hardcore stuff is defined as emo v.s. the pop stuff. the hardcore stuff a lot of people will call "Screamo" or "emo violence". there are some people that even divide those two terms. they are the same thing to some people.... emo has even taken on a super pop sound like johnny guilbert... nobody really knows what emo is at this point.

here's what emo was to me:

here's what emo is to some people:

here's what emo is to some kids born in 2000's:

personally the second example of emo i posted orchid is even more hardcore than what would be consider "Screamo" which i think is an acceptable term for the sound with screaming, but orchid goes so hardcore that i don't really even see it being emo related. yes a lot of octave chords used in both musically, but i don't see it being related at all.. this music is all heavily related through an under ground music scene where most of the people took pride in being vegan. emo to a lot of people is like a political thing involved with not hurting the environment and what not. that definitely seems to be something that brought the scene together besides the sound of the music. a lot of these different sounding bands used to play the same type VFW halls and people's basements and what not.

i think the vibe of this songs vocals sound way different than what orchid is doing... i'm pretty sure i did this same post in the screamo thread on blue light music discussion, or it might even be in this thread in the string of pages.. i really don't know, but i feel like emo is a culture where a lot of people will run into some one that's into it, and there are really all different sounds the person might like:

orchid sounds like violent to me... this sounds likes someone being tortured. lol.. i had to pick a song for the most tortured song, i'd probably pick this... i think a lot of kids on reddit aren't even going to be able to tell how i'm hearing something different in a band like orchid v.s. this below clip:

i hear a lot of power in the band orchid. i feel like the above clip sounds like some one giving up and asking why they are in so much pain. orchid seems to give pain... just what i hear... hears another "Screamo" album that i think sounds righteous and not really violent, like it sounds like standing up for something. i'm not sure it's really hatred, and it's more a confusion type sound:

a lot of what combines the different types of emo, you can see is stupid home made beatle esque hair cuts if you watch these bands videos.

i also think gin blossoms and goo goo dolls have a lot to do with the pop emo sound that i said were documented as the "emo diaries" compilations.. bush also sounds a ton like emo... "be quiet and drive" and some other deftones songs, a ton of emo sound... not necessarily because of the music styling, i feel like the cure has a lot to do with emo... just viewing songs with the same vibe as emo, but not really the same music structure, something like mr. crowley by ozzy is kind of emo to me in some ways. it's emotional, makes me feel strong, and strikes curiosity.

"Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over..."Love is a many splendored thing!..One can love both Def Leopard & Malevolent & also posting the wrong genre in the wrong thread...😉💜🤟

i'm just saying people on reddit would laugh at this and downvote you to hell..

all my opinions aren't agreed with on reddit.
I have years of experience with Reddit, none of which I can ever get back. I have been banned countless times…mostly for multiple accounts and ban evasion. All the while there are people using the “N” word but their accounts remain and the bullying is unreal. They have no consistency whatsoever, moderators act as they see fit.

whoever wrote the section for the reddit for the music in the genre called emo though is pretty accurate what it was historically as a cultural thing or artistic movement whatever you want to call it.. it was an under ground culture.. what they have listeed in the side bar of what the music is is just kind of a historical thing... i'm not trying to be a dick.. there are just people that want to separate it historically cause it's a counterculture that people want to remember historically, not just "Music the is emotional".... what emo is kind of branches out and gets confusing, but there is a general consensus of what it is and that kind of comes from being documented through years of counterculture..

EDIT: there are different moderators for all the different parts of reddit.. i've come across some horrendous moderating, but it's not really consistent across the site.

I appreciate your saying you’re not trying to be a dick…that has never happened and never will happen on Reddit. People fly off the handle for no reason…and I’m sorry but I don’t understand the EMO thing…

I’m not trying to be a dick either but if you read my post I said I have years of experience on Reddit, so I know there are different mods for different subreddits. Although they are different people they all share the same ignorance across the board

yeah... some of the stuff i read on reddit makes me sad with how people are.

i get that some on BL, but not a ton... i catch some good people on reddit too... more misinfo on reddit than BL ime... people on BL tend to straighten things out pretty quick if there is misinfo. everything gets confused on reddit. a lot of stuff gets over looked and bad posts get left up with out getting straightened out with factual info.

Reddit has banned me countless times, a few months go by and I’m back on, then the cycle starts all over again. It’s laughable. The bans are inconsistent and all about control. It’s becoming a violation of free speech honestly! Not that I give a flying fig, I keep creating accounts tho lol

Fuck Reddit...what a bs forum anyway.💩

reddit emo has got the history that will be documented.... i am a rogue agent from the future that is establishing the future by using the internet

5.13 into this track is guitar with octave chords... that is emo... it's a musical style... lol..

da fuq, people posting prodigy in this thread?.... although it's not in the group of emo, this track above is the basic emotion of emo.. the guitar at 5.13 retains a strong emo feel. it's in a similar key, even a key sometimes used in emo... you tube and listen to octave chords....

bush and deftones song "be quiet and drive" are probably some of the most radio rock hits that relate to emo... ... you probably all know my chemical romance as emo... people like to seperate that as "mall emo".

here's a universally accepted emo band that i love that i don't really expect people to get, and would think a lot of people would find to be juvinille noise... two of my favorite get up kids tracks:

not even trying to be a dick posting tracks that "people wouldn't get"... there is just so much octave chords in the get up kids music. that their sound really represents emo.. a lot of bands use octave chords, like that Sia track at 5.13 definitely has the music qualities of emo music.. the get up kids are just some really stripped down basic emo..

when thinking about how the average person probably isn't into the get up kids.. idk get up kids are just kind of weird and simple basic shit. idk. has some weird feeling i get from it though. it's not really the feeling i get when i'm describing wu tang clan and ambient hip hop which i do on BL.... .... Anyways, here's a super emotional track that isn't by definition emo that i would anticipate the average person on BL would get... this song has universal appeal.. i don't think the get up kids and a lot of the emo genre really have universal appeal

so the above really isn't emo i just want to say again.. just a great track i think with universal appeal. just want to say i post a lot of music that isn't really for everyone^^^^^^

here's a band that is pretty accepted as one of the founders of emo... i think they have the most radio rock appeal compared to most of the genre. i think most people would like it.. it's something i feel super strong about, but like i don't know how much universal appeal it has.. i feel like the Sia track to start this post has a lot of universal appeal. none of Sia's other music really has guitar or anything like that. idk. that was something she did early in her career. don't know if a lot of people would know. that. i would think it's universally enjoyable... like i said i post a lot of weird shit.

conor oberst was emo

conor oberst is definitely apart of the emo scene, but most of the genre doesn't sound like that for the most part....

that's a pretty kick ass bright eyes song. i like that one... i really like the first Desaparecidos release. that was a band conor oberst did. i would think the work he did as Bright Eyes would appeal to a larger scale of people.. idk. Bright eyes crosses a lot of genres google claims they are:
"Indie folk indie rock folk rock emo emo-folk alternative country"

i think im bein slow and making more connections than are necessary as per usue...
