Haha.. I've never felt as bad as I did after eating 2oz of powered nutmeg with a tablespoon... 48 hours of vomiting and hanging onto the floor because it was trying to shake me off...

Not to be pedantic, but the 'aromatics' from sex shops were/are butyl nitrite or nitrate. I used to have access to pharmaceutical grade amyl nitrite in glass tubes which popped when crushed (hence the term 'poppers')... Absolutely blissful rush with no fuckin headache..

FUBAR..your right that 'poppers' today are butyl nitrate and amyl nitrate is now controlled. People say there's no difference but I wouldn't really no....although I did try 'poppers' once at my ex-girlfriends house as she had a bottle....all it did was make my face go red and I felt dead flushed and could feel the veins in my temple throbbing.... Then after about a minute it was gone....I wasn't particularly impressed. . given that this was only a few years back it would almost certain my been butyl nitrate but I wonder if the feeling from amyl nitrate is any different?

Also out of interest has anyone had entanox (50/50 nitrous oxide and oxygen)? Sometimes also know on as 'gas and air'....we use it all the time for pain but I find that it can work really well on some folk and not at all on others....probably the most effective painkiller I've ever given is IV paracetamol.. I think it works better than 10mg IV morphine personally but unfortunately the are certain protocols that paramedics must follow... For example for an MI (heart attack) you HAVE to administer, GTN spray, 300mg April, Morphine (5-10mg) and O2 (100% 15 litres/minute. . non rebreathable mask). The thing is though that since morphine comes in 10mg amps , if you only use say 5mg you still have 5mg left in the syringe which has to be disposed of in a special locked bottle and the amount, batch number, date, time, emoyee number etc etc..and then record it in your CD log (the squirting it into the locked bottle has to be witnessed too).

Anyway sorry for that irrelevant ramble folks I'm am bit down tonight and just trying to keep myself busy...

Hiya you I declined my nieces offer of a share of gas and air last month when I was doing my birthing partner thing...it was tempting but at the time I was too concerned about her being out her face on gas n' air bouncing on a birthing ball and falling off and battering her head on a hospital floor screaming for pethadine

Merry time, I slipped away occasionally for a toot of the ole mxe to keep up with the dance vibe music she had chosen to give birth to 8! bouncy bouncy.....those birthing balls are the game. I want one at home!

Amyl nitrite (as opposed to nitrate) is the one you want. Its actually used as an antidote to cyanide poisoning. I had a friend who was a ranger in a country park and cyanide was used to control the rabbit population (this was the 80s mind, so things have probably changed now), so they had to have amyl nitrite on hand just in case. Needless to say, much of it got 'diverted'... And yes, it is VERY much different to the headache and nausea inducing butyl stuff. Pure euphoric bliss - like entonox, only much, much better... (We had a bad experience where my Mrs had to be induced to give birth our first child who wasn't going to survive), the staff 'accidentally' left the gas and air canisters in our room. I helped myself so much I got a nosebleed.. (The Mrs was getting diamorphine shots, so it was only fair...)

I respectfully disagree... OK, only 256 colours could be displayed on screen, but it had a pallette of 16.8 million to work from. The sound beat anything Microsoft was chucking out at the time, which is why the Amigas were THE tool of choice for budding music producers. Octamed? Fruity Loops? Plus PC graphics were still extremely blocky at the time (though admittedly faster) - the Amiga graphics were hi-res in comparison..

Edit: I admit PCs had more raw processing power, but the Amiga chipset used its lesser power more efficiently - plus had dedicated graphics and audio processors working in tandem with the Motorola 68020 CPU.

The PC could do 256 colours since 1987. Microsoft didn't make sound cards, that was Creative Labs & yes they beat Amigas into the dust, the Amiga 1200 only had 8 bit sound, PC had full 16bit CD quality in 1992 when the 1200 was released. It was common for PCs of the era to do 1024x768, not exactly blocky & higher than your TV could handle. Atari ST was the standard for music production, Amigas didn't even have MIDI. Amiga had nothing on a PC, that's why the 1200 tanked, Commodore went bust & it's hard to find one now.

I'm pissing hours away on a hacked Xbox full of old stand-up Arcade games dating back to the 70's. Mate of mine lent it to me! It doesn't play discs, doesn't even open, but it's filled with a thousand old arcade games, as well as Amiga games, Atari games, you name it.

I've been poking about on the internets finding old hand-held games I once owned too. Found these -

PC & Mac users had to put up with Adobe Photoshop, which is still the standard. If you weren't rich & didn't want to pirate stuff there was Paint Shop Pro, still better than DeluxePaint.

Photoshop at that time was purely a very expensive professional product.

Admittedly 3D wasn't the Amiga's forte, but its 2D performance was pretty fuckin awesome. For a £300 home computer I still think the A500/600/1200 series were the tits at the time.

So it was worse than a PC at being a PC, worse for games than a cheap console (or a PC), what was the attraction? My Atari Lynx did better 3D than the Amiga.

The PC was good at number crunching - hence its 3D performance. the Amigas were optimised for good 2D graphic and audio performance on an affordable home computer. The GUI, Workbench, (although heavily based on the Mac GUI) was superior to the windows equivalent IMO.
Also, there were the Amiga 2000/3000 series, which were the high end graphics stations of the time. Many films utilised Amigas for their computer graphics.


I'm willing to concede that by the time the Amiga 1200 had been released, the (expensive) equivalent PCs had caught up, but the Amiga 500 was the true trailblazer http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amiga_500 which really was superior to the PCs of the time - partly due to the planar graphics system which was more economical (hence able to be displayed at higher resolutions on a decent multisync monitor) than the PCs 'chunky' graphics system...

Anyway, let's just agree to disagree shall we?

But, you could buy a 386 with VGA when the Amiga 500 came out, so no, not really. The Amiga 500 was worse than a 286 (released 1982, 5 years before the Amiga). By the time the 1200 came out it was clearly much worse than all the competition, so it failed & Commodore went bankrupt. Amiga was always 5-10 years behind a PC, that's why they were cheaper. Only low budget films that couldn't afford proper computers used Amigas.

Silicon Graphics were the high end graphics stations of the time, commodore had nothing.

Indeed you did FUBAR...actually I meant to write nitrite but my phone mustn't recognise the word and changed in to nitrate automatically and I didn't notice....

I think Mr. Alistair has his pedantic head on....he has a point regarding the necessity to promote harm reduction and not post incorrect info.......but comparing mixing the word nitrate and nitrite to some of the absolute dangerous , clueless crap that gets posted in other areas of bluelight he might want to take a look elsewhere first if he feels a need to clear bluelight of harmful dangerous posts

i remember buying my first bottle od A Nitrate in kensington market - having a massive hit then falling in to a magazine rack and running/falling over crawling away ....oh the fun we had. When I use to go to Trade in London there were dozens of bottles on the dance floor being shared - nothing lke rushing on an E and having a blast.
I helped my self to gas n air when my missis had our first - nice but not really my ting.
