The EADD Hip-Hop music thread

lol, game didn't kill buddens career. buddens has never really had a career, he'll never be big because his style is not chart material apart from his first album.

good rappers don't make it big any more. ringtone rappers make it big. i can't think of any good rappers that have made it big since 50 cent & he became shite very quickly, now i fucking hate him.

when i said benefited from dre beats & 50s hooks i meant that thousands of rappers could have made it big at that time if they happened to be doing the verses on those tracks. game was totally interchangeable on his first few singles, he could have been anyone, it didn't matter who the rapper was.

to be honest, i haven't heard much of games mixtapes other than the different diss tracks & i think buddens ripped him, the same as jadakiss ripped 50. the game may have some incredible tracks on mixtapes somewhere but i just don't really like him. i don't hate any of his tunes & wouldn't jump to turn them off if they came on but i'd never choose to listen to him

Agreed 50 got boring quickly but GRODT is a classic album for me, can't say much for anything else hes done. I actually can't listen to his music anymore, its poison. He sounds like a type writer chewing tinfoil being kicked down a flight of stairs. The only person from G-Unit I can actually listen to is Buck, the rest bring pain to my ears.

True that, but not just any old rapper gets hooks from 50 and beats from dre. Game as I said dominated the underground scene for years, thats why he was "that rapper", and not just some other clown.

You see that new Busta track thats been on TV lately? I'd rather snort lines of my own wank through an umbilical cord than listen to it, whats happened to hip-hop these days? :(

the coming is still a class album though and the busta/odb version of woo hah is genius

A few points to ya young bredren......

saigon is quality. he should have been massive a few years ago but it just never happened. i dunno how you can chat about there not being many artists on games level lol. i think game is pretty pish tbh, he benefited greatly from the dr dre beats & the 50 cent hooks. his lyrics are pretty simple & he spends far too much time name checking other rappers. it's like

i got a beat from dre,
then went to see fif-tay,
he told me about nwa,
so i bumped some snoop dogg,
got down with nate dogg,
got call from jay-z,
about a 3way wit nas & az.

Very fucken true PT.

As far as the name dropping goes, its his style.

But as Kriss Kross might say..."It's wickidy wickidy whack!" ;)

There aint many. Maybe Soulja Boy and Lupe Fiasco (both of which i aint really liking). Seems to have been more of a swing to r&B via Timbaland in recent years.

Still one of the best gangsta albums ever made. Several standout tracks, but sadly not much since. "Heat" (my fav track on the album) still gets heavy rotation on TheKids's playlist.

Been listening to Above The Law today. Good music to do drive-by's to. ;)

Did you just say Soulja Boy is a GOOD rapper?

All that comercial stuff is pretty poor, there has been some great underground stuff mentioned already.

I quite like the new la coka nostra album but its not amazing.

That last Ill Bill album was geat - the hour of reprisal. Well worth a listen, best stuff him or necro has put out for years.

I havent been hearing any decent new hip hop albums for ages but I havent kept me ear out to be honest, keep just listening to the old stuff. Dont know if anyones mentioned them but both biggie albums are great, 6 feet deep by the gravediggas, nigga please by ODB is a classic mental album.

Nope, just one of the few artisits that seems to have made it big since 50 went massive. He's shite.

Meh, I've got confused in what you were saying then. When Crackhead said he can't think of any good rappers that have made it big since 50, you replied saying maybe soulja boy or lupe.

Lupe's actually a really good MC despite what many people think.

My mistake, i thought he was talking about anyone making it big.

I actually like a couple of Chamillionaire tunes.

Hes not bad, I hated him for "riding dirty", because thats just pure wank right there, but some of his material after that has been good. Crooked I & Freeway are both really good MC's, ever listened to either of them?

^ Nah, i've virtually given up on any new music! Everything new seems shite (apart from the new Prodigy album...which is good becuase it sounds old!)

Haha yeah I love that album myself, was great seeing them live at party in the park in june. Best live act I've ever seen and probably will ever see.

Best live act I've ever seen and probably will ever see.

I've seen them live a few times (back in the 90's) and they were excellent then. Prodigy, Primal Scream and Cast were my three fav gigs of all time (the first two accompanied by excellent pills!)

Best hip-hop gig was Gunshot.

Product Description
With one foot in the Analog past and eyes firmly set on the future,El Michels Affair are among the leaders of a resurgent funk &soul movement from New York City. Led by saxophonist/organistLeon Michels and producer/engineer Jeff Silverman, El MichelsAffair began as a loose collaboration of soul session men (includingmembers of top-sellers Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, TheBudos Band, and Antibalas), releasing an acclaimed 2005 debuton their burgeoning label Truth & Soul (also the moniker for theduo as a production team). The buzz generated from that album led to Toyota (!) inviting themto do some promotional shows backing Wu-Tang Clan members, which led to more Wu-Tang gigs, which in turn led to a contract withFatbeats Records to do an album of instrumental Wu-Tang coversand interpretations.
