GP's given me Cymbalta (duloxetine) but haven't been able to try it yet due to biopsy etc. Will try next week. Don't believe it will work for a second.

I've not heard of that, had a look up and its an SNRI type drug, interesting

Hope you get it sorted all round anyway, sounds like a really rough time there at the moment.

And yes it is quite ironic that the OP of this thread is about such a pitiful level of pain :D

For fucks sake MM, it wasn't just any old KFC, it was HOT WINGS dammit.

Oh jeesus fucking Christ I've fucked up here.

Mod handbook protocol and that probably would have told me to advise immediate medical attention and close the thread. Haven't heard from Mugz since he posted that, do you reckon he's gonna pull through this one?

i've got to stop being so flippant about shit.

Buggrit. Been chuffed all day at how much better me wrist has been. Just got nobbled by lifting a pan of rice. Ouch. But at least it seems to be very much on the mend generally. Probably afeard after seeing that splint Mz Marmz posted a pic of in Gibberings yesterday :D

Haha Inso, good to see you posting a lot more regularly than you had been over the last few years, or maybe I just haven't been in the threads that you have been posting in.

I agree my initial reason for creating this post was based on a pitiful level of pain but it was fucking killing me at the time and I did state in the title, Major or Minor pain :D so think I kinda almost maybe did get away with it :)

Thanks Mugz, was away from bl for ages but then started lurking again recently and now decided to make posts again.

Its a good thread idea, there are a lot of people on here with chronic pain issues. Which is do doubt connected to self-medicating with drugs.

Yup. Good to see you back more regularly, Inso. Now go take some drugs =D;)<3

Also, woke up to a distinct lack of wrist pain again. Woot! Seems to be okay now as long as I don't do owt drastic... like trying to lift a pan of rice 8)

Will switch to moaning about me back instead soon enough though ;)

I'm convinced it really does help, Max. Might even be backed by science too. Swearing has been shown repeatedly to increase the pain threshold and moaning is along similar lines, I'd say. Gets it out your system, releases a bit of tension and so on. Moaning is good for you. FACT! =D

does anyone else have fibromyalgia? apparently the prevalence is about 4% of the population so i dont understand why it isnt talked about more. anyway, i havent actually been diagnosed with it because the doctors are reluctant to do so, but fibromyalgia pretty much exactly describes my symptoms.

mindfulness meditation can be helpful for pain. its not some voodoo bullshit either. look it up.

Get thee to the doctor O Shambolic One. Sounds like you'd benefit from the additional support of a brace or splint as Marmz suggested <3 Every time you twang it you're undoing any cellular repair that took place.

You think it's still necessary, Ms Wicked? Wasn't gonna bother as it's basically been fine since yesterday aside from the rice incident - and even then it was just a sharp reminder that I shouldn't get ahead of meself by doing such heavy lifting (8)) so soon. Hmm... gotta go into town inna bit anyway and tomorrow is the only day you can book in advance for so suppose I might as well. Need to get him to give the pain clinic folks another nudge anyway actually and update on the state of quitting smoking (not entirely successful as of yet :o) so might as well, I suppose. Ya never know - there might even be some Goodies in it for me ;)

Or at least some advice on how to avoid making it worse again which would be almost as good. Almost :D

Quite right. Its Hindu/Buddhist bullshit that has been latched on to as the latest way to sell psychology.

If you don't pay for it, you might even call it self-awareness. 8(

Not dissing you mate if it works for you, its just that its the latest 'in-thing' and it gets on my tits.

I actually think meditation is a good practice in general meself. Don't subscribe to any particular version of it nor think it's even remotely necessary to pay for books/courses/classes/guides/whatever - that's the bullshit side of it. Whether it could make any difference to pain levels I have no idea but it actually wouldn't surprise me. What did surprise me was how much better in general I felt when I used to meditate daily. It's not so much psychology as biology, There's really no question about if it actually makes (temporary) physical changes in the brain cos it does and has been proven time and time again - and the changes made tend to make the owner of the brain feel better in general. Not gonna cure diseases, fix broken limbs, or fix broken minds for that matter... but I'd say it can definitely help some people with the latter and may well provide some relief from physical pain in some too.

I'm not saying meditation is rubbish.

I'm saying 'mindfulness' is middle-class bs, another way to charge people £30 a session for basic common sense/self-awareness.

But SHM those less travelled/wordly wise may need to be led to common sense & awareness, even if the act of attending has a placebo effect and helps the suffererer feel they're taking control of their pain, non?

does anyone else have fibromyalgia?

my cousin has it, and I too was surprised theres so little awareness. Aspartame makes it worse, if you like your diet drinks?

Not sure, I'm not one for wasting doctors time but it might be useful if s/he can tell you if its nerves, ligaments or tendons. And good to have on record if it persists.
