When you've done this with a Tick, from your nephews head, then you can feel like a real man/sturgeon/name your fish.

+1

Though I had my own problems similar, but slightly easier I reckon RJ. With the shit six times (in my case) a day scenario leading to fissures and screaming around on the floor pain. Too many things stuffed up the arse in my case. By the medics, by the medics!

I think I have a fissure too now (yeah, merry Christmas). Generally sore all the time in one specific location, but with stabbing pains randomly when I move around or even just sitting still sometimes. Wiping my arse is impossible without excruciating pain, if I'm home I jump in a shallow bath (gets boring after 1am, 2am, 3am, 4am etc), can't do that at work with their toilet sandpaper though. Doesn't help that my bowel movements are much looser, more frequent and and much more acidic than a normal person. Docs on Friday to confirm it anyway. What sort of treatments are available and are they effective? People on the j pouch forums seem to think you just had to let it run its course.

Happy Christmas to you too RJ. Jeez, I've had enough of peeling vegetables so....

...right, it's still not determined (and frankly I've lost interest now I'm better) whether my problem was fissure from the excessive pooing plus having things stuffed up my arse OR what they now tell me may have been a urethro-rectal fistula. That's when they perforate your bowel for you, by mistake obviously, and the shit finds a different route from bowel to arsehole entrance. Yeah, merry Christmas everyone.

For the purposes of what you are asking me though...yes, jumping in a bath, boring BUT necessary. GP also gave me some sort of gel I can't remember the name of and frankly it stings like fuck with no noticeable positive sides to make me say use it. And yes as for fissures they tend to fix themselves. Just spend the rest of your life being careful how you shit and careful how you wipe your arse.

Fistulas tend NOT to fix themselves, so I'm told, which is why they think mine was not one. Except everything else fits and it lasted roughly eight fucking months in total. Sorry for swearing, I still think yours is a much worse position than mine to be in and I wish you all the best.

8 months! I'm through with this after 8 weeks heh. Swear away though man, that's what this thread is for :) I don't like to think of things as a competition for who's situation is, or has been worse. Anyone who doesn't feel 100% has a valid reason to post here and we should all be treated with the same level of compassion.

I think fistulae are quite common in the ladies with my condition, between pouch and vagina, I'm not sure they're as common in in men or where the pouch would divert to. Another thing that is common is to have colitis in the 2cm or so of rectum that wasn't removed and that the pouch was sewn to. They try to keep this as short as possible to avoid this, more skilled surgeons will leave less but it makes reattaching the pouch much harder. My own own personal examinations (I use a barrier cream and it's gotta be applied somehow...) suggest I have 5+cm of rectum left, and it feels pretty lumpy and swollen. They call this cuffitis and there isn't really a treatment for it either, maybe steroid suppositories or something. Have to wait til I can see my surgeon in a couple of weeks for this diagnosis though.

Meanwhile I'll just keep bathing, sleep when I can (not at night at the moment), concentrate as hard as I can on not losing my new new job (which I feel was an error to take now I know how this is making me feel), and hope things improve.

As much as I try to stay positive about this, I'm starting to feel regret about the the choice that I made back when I had the option to either have one more op to make the stoma permanent (removing the rectum and giving me a "barbie butt"), or the two ops to make this pouch, which I chose... :(

Hey guys, I dont usually post in EADD but I need some UK based advice on pain management please!.lol
I suffer with back pain (who doesnt?lol) both sciatica and upper back and neck pain with muscle spasms and various neuralgias.
My pain is classed as neuropathy (mainly) but GP thinks I may have mechanical pain as well, hence I have been referred to an orthopedic specialist for assessment.
Im currently taking dihydrocodeine 30mg upto 120mg daily, pregabalin 600mg daily (in two doses), co-codamol 30/500mg upto 8 a day and mirtazapine 45mg at night.
Sorry about all the background, I just wanted to give all the info up front.lol
My doctor has spoke about other pain med options after ive had my assessment (basically hishands are tied til then). He has hinted at morphine as an option as he doesnt think DHC er will cover my pain sine the ir versions are failing miserably recently.
My question is, is morphine a good way to go at my age? 28yrs old. Im not that old and morphine seems like a big step when I have years of pain ahead of me.
Are thier any other options that you guys think would be worth looking into? My GP is very open-minded and willing to discuss my options and ideas.
If morphine is the best option then I have no problem with it but I dont want to be shoved in that direction because its more cost effective, when a better medication is out there.
Any help appreciated, thanks in advance!.

Fuking pain ,double bubble 2day I has to walk to supermarket/Chemist 200 yards maybe 300 feels like i am preparing for a fuking trek in the arctic .

I hate this weather makes my Post thrombotic Syndrome 10x worse n it 's just fukin shite.

Pain got too much (the internal pouch inflammation pain, not the skin tag and fissure), so I presented at A&E and have been admitted. Posting this from my hospital bed. Hopefully we'll get a scope or colonoscopy tomorrow to try to work out what the problem is. I'm nil by mouth but not sure why, have only had a sandwich today and am fucking starving :(

Never know what I can say RJ except you deserve a change in luck and I hope you get it soon. Like now. All the best.

I totally agree. I also totally agree with what you said a while back about Josh having to live with the kinda shit (sorry - I really can't help myself :o) that most of us just can't imagine and doing so with deeply impressive fortitude and positivity. At least that's very much how it comes across. Genuinely inspirational really.

Sorry to hear that it looks like you've hit yet another rough patch. As SHM says, a change in luck is long overdue. Long overdue and richly deserved.

What about napraxen? I've a family member with osteoperosis where her bones are crumbling n she says napraxen is brilliant. She won't take opiates because of my actions.
The problem with opiate painkillers is they stop working after awhile n you have to take more of them to stop tbe pain. They're great on a temporary basis.
