The Doof Thread

Still deciding where to take our daughter to her first doof! (So, doof ear muffs must be found! Something like http://thecool-listkids.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/blog-photos-14.gif would be cool but atm, she hates wearing anything on her head like sunnies with velcro strap + headbands. She pulls them off! Can't have that at a doof, her hearing MUST be preserved, unlike mine LOL. Huh? What was that, I can't hear you!)

One of the only times I've managed to get a picture of her with her sunnies on before she's pulled them off within a minute! She's gonna be one cool doof baby ;)

^^ Cuuuuuute!!! <3

The ones you pictured aren't going to keep the sound out unfortunately. You need some proper industrial ones like these:

*nod* I haven't researched anything yet hence I haven't found any (that work good and hopefully keep Cassandra looking cool. But function over coolness in this case :D) I'll be looking in the coming weeks as we'll seriously start wanting to take her out [to doofs etc] 'soon'

For now, the hours at the pool we're taking her and being able to put her in the creche there while we do our gym cardio together (I can't do anything faster than walk due to my shoulder popping out every few moments due to the brachial plexus damage equates to no shoulder muscles doing what they're supposed to so it's no 'proper' exercise for me outside of machines that let me hold onto something so I can elevate my arm and/or 'lock' my shoulder into place via holding onto a bar and what not.

First gym session in over a year and was able to do 40ish minutes on the first exercise that was a X-trainer on level '3' for fat burning selection. And then some other stuff to 'help' my arm kind of exercise and then we picked up Cassandra then into the pool. God, she LOVES it!! Almost as much as we do I think =D Can't wait til I hopefully regain the fitness I lost due to my injury so I can keep up with little Cassie in the chasing each other around fun + games when she's a little bit older <3<3<3

And it'll help us dance with her for hours on end at doofs to be more on topic LOL %) I'd insert another pic of her but I'm off to snuggle with Emma after a big day of gym, pool and lunch with my parents. It was a busy 4 or 5 hours then finished with an hour or two of chemist + visiting friends at their workplaces today. :D

Ostara is cancelled :(

It is with deep sadness the Ostara team announces the cancellation of the 2010 outdoor event. Due to circumstances beyond our control Ostara management feels it can not proceed with a fully permitted, legal and safe event organised within the vision and ideals we hold true.

Due to your amazing support Ostara outgrew it's traditional home, Sokil, last year. With the full support and assistance of the Pyrenees Council a new site was secured however there was a last minute objection by a local property owner. Despite considerable effort on behalf of organisers, Council and legal teams the objector remains unmoved and Council is therefore unable to issue the permit.

For Ostara to continue from here legal proceedings would have to occur. While our legal advice states we would be successful within those proceedings Ostara management can not justify the associated costs. These added expenses would eliminate any profit and therefore any donations to local charities.

The crew now feel those funds are best left preserved to enable the true meaning of Ostara to emerge for 2011~ a celebration of rebirth. It takes more than a farmer to keep a Goddess down and it is our sincere hope your appreciated support continues in 2011 to share Ostara's spectacular reincarnation.

Due to this considerable development Ostara management now aims to give as much notice as possible to all artists, contractors, punters and pre-purchase ticket holders of this years' cancellation.

*All refunds will be made available immediately at full price paid, however, any booking fees will not be refunded as this outside of Ostara management's control.

*Please do not return to your point of purchase for your refund. Instead contact Ostara management at: [email protected] with the serial number on your ticket, full name and bank account details to receive full reimbursement. You will still need to return your tickets via mail and will receive your refund via bank transfer.

*Greentix ticket holders will receive an automatic reversal of funds, using their original method of purchase (VISA, PayPal, etc). Those who have purchased via greentix online please contact them if your refund hasn't appeared in your account within 30days.

We hope you accept our sincerest apologies for any and all inconvenience and promise to deal with all of your enquiries as swiftly as possible.

Ostara would like to thank the crew for the incredible amount of time, effort and hard work (at their personal expense) already volunteered to the event. Much appreciation is extended toward all artists, performers, volunteers and others willing to donate time and art in pursuit of the Ostara vision.

Our souls weep for our lady Ostara tonight and understand many of you share our disappointment. We have faith you will understand our desire to allow her the dignity of bowing out gracefully for 2010.

~ the entire Ostara crew

^ damn not another one. Seems to be the year of event cancellations due to permit issues :(

...there was a last minute objection by a local property owner...

What a douche. They're only going to encourage smaller illegal parties by blocking bigger events such as this, which in turn will have less adequate amenities, first aid, security, etc and hence have a greater potential for accidents/harm :(

Has anyone heard of snakebites occurring at doofs? Or people breaking legs and such? I often wonder about that.

I think it is a sign that things have become too big. Most doofs are a few steps smaller than a major festival these days so it means there is more importance given to Health and safety and legal permits. More than a few thousand punters will always have a more noticable footprint, both environmentally and in the surrounding host community.

Unfortunately it does seem that things will have to go underground and be much smaller. A single stage on a property for no more than 200-300. I won't mind as long as I'm kept in the loop. ;)

Busty, I agree with your sentiment above.

Having thought about it, the bush doof scene has gotten pretty big in a lot of places, Rainbow is a classic example, with huge growth over the last few years. My first Rainbow was in 08 and I enjoyed it more than the one this year, don't get me wrong its a magnificent festival, but sort of too big for my liking (unfortunately, cos I love RSF).

Smaller more intimate doofs might be the saviour for us all, I notice Strawberry Fields has a 2200 limit this year. And Maitreya was about 3000 I believe. Maitreya was a great doof, (apart from the weather and a bad personal experience) but I think if limits are put on some of the emerging doofs. We might keep a great scene, but then they have to make profit, so catch 22.

Well thats my ramblings over

PLUR

Why do they have to make a profit? Single stage, more simple sound systems and some firewood. Everything else should be supplied by those attending with more of a community feel. Some of the art installations I have seen lately are really pretty but do they justify the expense? Bring what you need, leave no trace behind. A bit hard to do at something as large as Rainbow.

More intimate doofs have a real community feel, when you have over 1000 you tend to lose control, the dickhead factor increases and the need for security is greater. A smaller doof means everyone has to contribute, be it supplying art or lighting to helping clean up at the end. When it more of a festival you are more likely to find people are more selfish and insular.

Damn straight there. Our fav doofs are the ones of a few hundred for sure. RSF was great in 01 or 02 whenever we first went and a couple after but going 2 or 3 years ago, it had lost (for us) the same feel it had back when it was smaller. Busting people trying to steal stuff like food, alcohol in eskies never happened 5+ years ago. Seems to be a common theme from what we hear the past 2-3 RSFs. Smaller is better :D

I've come to believe anything in large gatherings, anywhere.. is never good.

I always think of doofs as the awesomely dusty crude parties hidden away in some forest enclave that few can find, where the atmosphere feels almost transcendental, at least thats how i remember them from back in 2007. One's ive been to as of late have been much bigger with a broader crowd and a change of style in music.. i still enjoy them regardless, there's way too many awesome souls there that have been going for years that always put a smile on my face.

i definetly agree, the smaller doofs feel more like a community where you know everyone there and you don't have to worry about locking your car or guarding your esky. doofs FTW <3

^^ I dunno man, some of the smaller parties up near zig zag can be pretty sketchy when the locals decide to come and play 8)

I do know what you mean though, there's such a sense of community when it's a smaller party.

So looking forward to new years - bring on New Psycle!! =D

Yeah some of the locals round colo aint so cool either. Underground again maybe the way to go pretty soon.

Thats ok though, our doof crew is big enough to throw our own doofs just for us if we need

*bump of doom*

Well well well. The Newcastle NYE doof was possibly the best party I've ever been to. I am sorely lamenting its departure from my life.

It was so good I didn't take one single photo. FAIL!! =D
I was too busy having way too much fun :D

Hillbilly I didn't even get to try some of your absinthe :|
Next time gadget ;)

*edit* Oh wait, here is the ONE photo I took hahaha. Tops.
