Eclipse is coming up in less than a week.
It's in cairns, so sort of near bris (if u look at it from Sydney's perspective).
The gate price, however, is bloody extortion! I heard its $500 entry without a pre sale. Eh.

Are there any sites for people like Fieldy who wont to find out about upcoming events? I went to that australians doof site and it didn't seem to have a single upcoming event for any state or territory?

Yeah it's expensive.. I only paid $200 for BOOM tickets and that was over 8 days with a very large scale setup in Portugal.

But I'm sure it'll be fun for those going :)

Cairns is too far for me to travel and i don't have time nor money from my employment to spurge on. If anyone in the bris area knows of anything coming up please pm me :) Need to pop my doof cherry!

theres a few groups of facebook but there invite only so u cant veiw the page without somone whos already been confirmed into the group to send you a invite so u can get onto the page

You have to pay to get into doofs? I thought they were like free parties, are they licensed or are people just being greedy?

i don't mind paying a lil something to cover set up costs or petty for genies etc, but paying hundreds of dollars, or big money for tickets seems to go against the whole ethos of the scene to me...i mean, it sounds pretty fucking commercial to be paying big moneys for a doof, or whatever you want to label it...fuck that shit! id rather be out in the bush with mates...preferably off my tits.

im reading a book (on the road to nirvana by gina arnold) about the old punk rock scene and record labels etc...fuck commercialism and capitalism!!!
it fucks every thing good and enjoyable in life...money hungry fucks!

Personally I wouldn't call the Eclipse Festival in Cairns a "doof". From what I have seen it is more of a large festival in the same vein as Woodford or even a scaled down Big Day Out, that just happen to have a lot of the doof community attending because of the cosmic connection. I wouldn't call Rainbow Serpent a doof either even though it has plenty of hippy's, psytrance and fire twirling.

There are plenty of free parties out there, but the costs are kept down to cater for perhaps up to 100-200 people. For me an ideal doof would be around the 500 mark where as festivals like Serpent or Earth Freq can expect numbers in the thousands. Of course there are all shades of grey in between. When you have that many people you suddenly need porta loos, security and a hell of a lot more electricity. Most small party's usually run at a loss and they are truly a labour of love for these crews, some only throwing one party a year.

I am happy to pay anywhere between $30-50 a night for most doofs, especially if they are running two or more stages and have an extensive light set up. Still cheap compared to bar hopping all night and paying cover charge at 3-4 clubs. If you want to bring something to the party, either volunteering on the door for a few hours or donating equipment or fuel then you generally party for free. There have been plenty of nights I have come away and commented that I would have paid double for the experience. I find most people who complain about the cost don't generally put any effort into the scene and tend to just show up, party and don't stick around to clean up.

It just surprised me is all, there's a very distinct split between free parties and events that charge here in the UK, what you describe is more of a continuum almost. I was also surprised to hear what I had considered to be "festivals" called "doofs", given that I had identified that term with "free party". Bottom line, I'm foreign, I don't know about the scene, but I'm bang on my psytrance so it's interesting to me to learn a little more.

Not sure if there are that many free parties over here. Most of the ones I have been to in the last 14 years have had some kind of fee anywhere between $5 to $60

Hi all,
Do any of you knowledgeable doofers know of any doofs, or at least events of that ilk, that are held in South Oz?

Cheers %)
