Social The Delphic Oracle - Know Thyself: P&S Social Ampitheatre of Doom

i thought i did, but learned essentially i only did this when it suited me. the one truly truly positive thing i had the chance to do brought me close to a nervous breakdown. i repent in the ways that i can.

the people i know like this are usually highly religious, so i'm not sure we can say they do it for the world, they do it for God, but the effects are the same. i know one atheist like this, and i am in awe of him

repent maybe, by being a God Fearing individual, as in, fearful of not facing your fears...
you maybe dont have a hand in your fate, but you have the only hand in your destiny.

ugh i feel like a dick for writing that now. i was an arrogant fool to think i could ever do what i'd hoped, urgh i've opened a can of worms in my head now.

your post reminds me of one of my favourite songs. apathy is easy by cutting class. the decision to consciously take control of your destiny. 'i'll get a grip soon, i will be strong, been promising myself for too long... time to take my fucking life back.' its a work in progress.

edit- just to be clear- nothing you said made me feel that way, its the subject matter.

ack, cant listen to the song, or find it on youtue(thats a first for me!)
but, yeah, i can dig that title.....

reminds me of a quote from the film "crimes and misdemeanors", where a story is being told about this, topic perhaps.

the scene, a boxing match...a womens son traversing into the ring. the woman and priest together.

' father! please, pray for my son,,,!'

' okay, but, itll help if he can throw a punch.'

but
i betcha if the prayers didnt work, and if he didnt have the right combination of punches and ducks at the time, he sure will at the next bell.

myspace is shit these days! the last minute of that song is IMO the best minute of music to ever come out of the UK.

i haven't seen that movie but should check it out.

when truly pushed, we are able to do the most amazing things, regardless of lack of prior skill/divine intervention. (someone push me!!!)

"Aphrodite can also be said to have caused the Trojan War. This came about in the following fashion. When the hero Peleus was married to the sea-nymph Thetis, all the gods were invited to the ceremony -- all but one that is. The slighted goddess happened to be a specialist in sowing discord, so she maliciously deposited a golden apple on the banquet table. The fruit was inscribed with the legend, "For the fairest". Immediately all the goddesses began to argue about whose beauty entitled her to be the rightful possesor of this prize.

Finally it was decided to put the dispute to arbitration. Reasonably enough, the designated judge was to be the most handsome mortal in the world. This turned out to be a noble Trojan youth named Paris, who was serving as a shepherd at the time. So the three finalists -- Aphrodite, Hera and Athena -- sought him out in the meadow where he was tending his flocks.

Not content to leave the outcome to the judge's discernment, the three goddesses proceeded to offer bribes. Hera, Queen of Olympus, took Paris aside and told him she would help him rule the world. Athena, goddess of war, said she would make him victorious in battle. Aphrodite sized Paris up and decided he would be more impressed with the guaranteed love of the most beautiful woman in the world. This was Helen, who happened to be married to the king of Sparta.

Paris promptly awarded the golden apple to Aphrodite, who in turn enabled him to elope with Helen, who thenceforth became notorious as Helen of Troy. Helen's husband and his brother raised a Greek army to retrieve his wife, and this was the inception of the Trojan War. "

these musings made me think of one of the dalai lamas recent facebook posts....

The basic foundation of humanity is compassion and love. This is why, if even a few individuals simply try to create mental peace and happiness within themselves and act responsibly and kind-heartedly towards others, they will have a positive influence in their community.

so before we can do good for those around us, we must forgive ourselves.

One of my son's counselors used to use the quote, "people generally don't change because they see the light but because they feel the heat."

Definitely been my experience!:\

and the Dalai Lama's quote is so right on. I think that is the most revolutionary action any person can take--creating their own mental peace.

It's been a while, but I'm glad to see you all doing well.
I had forgotten how nice it was to just be in. (:
It must be the times. (:

the Eagles track, Forgiveness was a big push for me.
"forgiveness even if you dont love me anymore"

you know?
getting over yourself, and realizing that the people you love, do not need to love you for any multitude of reasons,
it is brutal, but, once you can get over yourself and let loss be. we can come back around to ourselves with and for/with much more.

there was couple of months recently, at grocery-stores buying bulk food and veggies, i would take a twist-tie used to write the BN#'s down, and boldly print then leave behind in the open...i would jot down -

" be in love, and realize you always have been "

Hi.

So.

The sentence below is true.
The sentence above is false.

Discuss. You have 24 hours.

It could be argued that I do have 24 hours. Then again those hours dont belong to me. Either way the fact that I am discussing means the sentence below is true.

Discuss. You have 24 hours.

Hiya filosofurs :)

So you're going to present a load of druggies with the deepest problem in existence, and give us a day to bear fruit? That's about the same as one monkey with one typewriter churning out Hamlet in 10 minutes.

Sure. Because if it does not contain theirselves then it automatically, as sure as 2 + .30 = 2.3, contains itself 8(
