Secret Window- loved that too

Really??? I thought that was one of the top five worst movies I've seen in the last two years. You loved it?

I didn't think that was a love it or hate it because I have never met someone who even thought it was okay.

definitive love/hate flick?

I'll throw in The Royal Tennenbaums for that one. I've never come across a person who was indifferent about it.

^ surely that's th every definition of a 'love it or hate it movie'?

no, i don't think so. i think a movie has to have some merit before it is worthy of 'love it or hate it' status.

i think 'eyes wide shut' and 'mulholland drive' were good examples.

hating a movie the most and it being the worst movie do not, and I think should not, necessarily correlate. If there is nothing of worth to the movie, why would you hate it? Why wouldn't you just dismiss it as shit?

A music example would be The Eagles. I fucking hate The Eagles maybe more than any other band. I would give them 'Worst Band Ever' status. There have obviously been bands with worse playing ability and worse songwriting- but it's the fact that they are so popular (because they are, admittedly, talented) that I feel warranted in hating them so much.

Under most circumstances I think that when people say they hate or love something they are really just exaggerating.

I was perusing this thread and that stood out at me; for a split second I thought you meant the football team and I got all riled up!

lol...."I fucking hate the Eagles"...you like Credence though right? :P This reminds me of the Big Lebowski...a great movie in my opinion...maybe not a love or hate one. However a love or hate one would have to be the Coens 'Ladykillers'. Now I think more tend towards 'hate', but I've met a few people who loved it and none who thought it was okay.

yeah, more something like that. I was thinking 'A Clockwork Orange' or really I thought 'Eyes Wide Shut' was a great example.

I want to feel the hatred. I don't want- "It's boring." Why do you wish its death?

i agree... any wes anderson film for that matter... i of course, would like to think that those who 'hate' his films simply dont get it, but thats not the case;)

pfunk~ there's def some merit to what you're saying but i dont think the love it or hate it decription is an exageration. imo it takes something to actually evoke the emotion of hate with respects to art. this is why im always amused with people who "HATE" pop music/film/tv etc its so innocuous that it doesnt even merit use of such a strong word. im not gonna HATE some teen movie but you better believe i fucking hate magnolia with a passion. i hate the way that movie made me feel but @ least i felt something:)

^^lmao! i feel the same about magnolia...i was literally like..WTF!!!?????????????????????
ive said this before and ill say it again..Meet JOe Black sucks humongous gorilla balls. Although ive several female friends who just ADORE it...8( lol
Vanilla Sky is DEFINITELY in the love/hate thingy....i absolutely loved it.
