^ Please. The people in the UK don't know a rave from a toddlers birthday party compared to what they have in Holland/Belgium

It's lucky we're constantly bombarded with their pills, their DJ's and if all else fails there's always nice cheap weekend packages to their huge events.

scene snobbery alive and well in 2013...

no scene snobbery from me.
im from ireland not the uk.
most newcomers and edm fans wernt probably born when the dance scene was underground and more credible its not their fault that this is the music marketed at them.im sure if they were around in the early 90's some of them would have been into that scene im not saying they are all fools.
there was no mass marketing of dance culture then in the pre cellfone/internet days. they did exist but not to the masses yet

Yup. Or perhaps just quality control and codgeriness...

Am well aware I am but a dinosaur wallowing in the rose-tinteds. Doesn't stop the gist of the argument being true. I also said that I'm well aware that I'm not so far gone as to suggest that the whole US scene is shite. It's the excesses of shite that's being bemoaned. It's not like I (and other senior citizens) aren't open for a comeback. Kinda hoping for it really. Healthy competition hurts no-one. That kandi shite could put an acidified eye out though 8o

Would be genuinely very pleased to hear what quality US tunes are about at the moment. Am ancient and not from around those parts so miss out. Nowt wrong with a lil cross-cultural exchange of ideas. Will take some considerable convincing y'all sepp's know how to take drugs properly too though ;)

Oldtunes

New(ish) tunes

What's good over yonder ponder then or now? Educate the elderly so I can get off me slightly-too-drunk-and-snotty high-horse puh-leese =D

Hey man, you get a first class flight over and get here by tomorrow and I'll give you a combo that could put down a horse... and bring it to God ;)

What's good musically here though? The fuck if I would know. All I listen to is Dutch Hardstyle and some Indian trance when I bring the party drugs out lmao

That would count as considerable convincing but not sure I can stretch to first class flights... Hmm... would economy do?

As for Dutch tunes, had the second best pills of me puff at a Dutch squat party years ago. Don't even really remember the tunes other than they were mighty fine. Although, to be fair, you could have played an out-of-tune tuba in one ear and a stylophone wivva shonky battery in the other at the same time and I still would've had a grin plastered from ear to ear =D

@shambles klf are alright a bit too msinstream for this hombre.

"Mainstream" cos they made a few tracks that a gazillion people liked even if they weren't into the wider scene :p

Not aware of many other mainstream bands successfully combining bagpipes, automatic weapons, oldskool hip-hop, dead animals, acid house, uberambience and hardore thrash metal over the years but maybe I'm missing a trick... ;)

One to make an old geezer smirk and any passing yoof snigger heartily (yes, people did dress like that, have hair like that and dance like that :D) before I toddle off up the wooden hill to bedfordshire for the night: Fantazia - Donington '92 <3

KLF are too mainstream??? WHAT?

it's internet rule #2, don't you know...

"i don't have a problem with my drug problem, i only have a problem with your drug problem".
"i don't have a problem with my shitty music, i only have a problem with your shitty music".
"i don't have a problem with my crappy scene, i only have a problem with your crappy scene".

:)

the lack of humility and compassion on display is often ironic. sadly so...

I think in certain clubs its still pretty cheap, £9 I paid to see carl cox last year at sankeys I would hardly call that expensive and hes quite "a big name" in the industry. Still there are loads of small clubs with good and unheard of DJs hosting quality nights week in week out.

I generally pay about a tenner (occasionally £15), sometimes less, to get in to a widely recognised great club at the weekends. I don't really spend much else once I'm in there, maybe 2 drinks max. In the past year or so I've seen tons of shit hot DJs - Magda, Ben Klock, Ricardo Villalobos, Nina Kraviz, Josh Wink, Ben Sims, Ryan Crossan, Len Faki, Rab Hood, Richie Hawtin & loads more I can't be arsed trying to remember right now. Also seen fucking loads of lesser known, but still equally as good, DJs for next to nothing (quite often literally nothing).

I rarely log in and post in these forums, but this is the most absolutely bullshit article I have ever read :|, not to mention it's completely judgemental of people that you probably don't even know. There are plenty of true electronic music enthusiasts (or ravers if you want to call it that) and plenty of great EDM events in the states <3. The author just sounds like he's trying to show off his big dick because he pops lots of pills and know's what good music is. Damn dude if people want to listen to music with a filthy drop, then so be it. I like all genres of EDM and have a great time at events in the US.

@PTCH

well at the peak of the trance scene in 1999 to 2000 the worlds most popular dj's carl cox judge jules oakenfold picotto etc all charged £25 for the pleasure of seeing them dj only reason they charge half that now is no one would pay it lol they took the piss back then

Hehe. Was actually a bit of self-mockery there. I was never a Fantazia fanboy. Somewhat ironically I mostly thought it was over-commercial mainstream shite at the time :D

They did put on a decent show though and it does raise a smile in hindsight. "Whistle possee let's go!!!" Hahahahahaha! =D

Plus, the very best (partially cos it was my first, mainly cos it was an absolute beast of a) pill I ever had was from Fantazia. Was good enough to merit a mention in me one and only TR so do have some fond memories from there and thereabouts <3

Na, you can still pay silly money to see DJs today. Just pointing out that it's possible to see supposed "big name" DJs for next to nothing (the price of a few pints or a swedger).
well ibiza is an example where you pay massive $$$$ to see the big names play in overpriced overfilled clubs.
been at a gig where oakenfold turned off the tunes at the peak for a min jumped up and down waving his hands to massive applause what the fuck i paid nearly £30 to see some coked up wanker milk the applause put the fucking music back on the fuck lol
big name dj's can be bigtime knobheads from my expierence.
judge jules was one...he went off in a snit when i approached him at the dj booth he hadnt started his set yet and was offhand when i asked him about another famous dj's style. wanker.
he was rocking "its my turn" at the time this tune he made with his bird on vocals..lol cheese anyone?

wtf poms in the cuddle puddle. good to see some new old faces. party on the faulklands?
