The Chinese laboratories where scientists are already at work on the new 'meow meow'

I highly doubt Cocaine and (and Heroin for that matter) will be replaced. Especially not by chemicals as meager as these. The cost of manufacture, the difficulties in smuggling, the cost of the above two issues really don't matter- the customer base, since the early 20th century, has wanted nothing but Cocaine and Heroin on a steady diet. I doubt many crack and Afghani smack users touch Mephedrone, M1, MDPV, etc on a regular basis, if even once.

'As the Home Secretary has said on a number of occasions, the ACMD are the experts but politicians have to make the decisions. We need to say to the ACMD, "You have 28 days to ban this." It's not rocket science. We also need to gather drugs intelligence in the same way we gather anti-terrorism information.'

No, you really don't.

the war on drugs... *sigh*

It also goes to show if you wish for 'cheap and good', you would definitely get it from China:)

Indefinitely! Hahaha...

Examples such as this should be used as a political argument against Maoist blasphemy against scientific socialism/the proper lineage of Marxism. For an ideology that claims to have wiped out drug addiction by 1950 (evidence: http://rwor.org/a/china/opium.htm ), the taste of state capitalism has proven palitable to the party apparatchiks (of which our chemist friend is either one or related to one or more). The New Left belongs with the Stalinists and Trotskyites- as examples under "Oppertunism" in the political science dictionary.

They'll publicly execute Thai and Khmer and Hmong peasants with a few ounces of smack, but guys like this get to play neighborhood kommisar in the CPC while he smuggles metric tons of drugs to foreign countries- and brags about it to foreign journalists (with pictures of himself, his wage workers [oh yea, the proletariet isn't the revolutionary class under Maoism...] and his operation including drugs!).

I'm guessing whatever analytical apparatus they use is a little better-maintained than the 3-necks in that 1st photo. Unless the apparatus is "drug boss Eric" eyeballing the powder and saying, "Purity 99.8%".

I have it on good authority that the majority of meph and other legal RCs are made as a sideline by professional, legit pharmaceutical companies in both India and China. In fact, as I understand it, the next wave of RCs will be coming from India.

very interesting story. its a shame it was written by an anti-drug douche because he could have probably provided even more interesting material about what its like inside those factories.

also does anyone agree with this statement regarding the proliferation of mephedrone? i think he just pulled this out of his ass.

The oil, confiscated over the preceding weeks and months, had been distilled from the roots of the mreah prew phnom tree in jungle labs that produced an average of 60 litres a day. If it had got to Holland, it could have been synthesised into 245 million doses of ecstasy.Instead, it was burnt. The impact was profound and lasting and inadvertently caused the mephedrone phenomenon.

^There's been more than one mass burning of sass, and they probably did have an impact on the worlds supply. There's no doubt there was a shortage in supply for a good long while there, and pipes and other bullshit pills started to appear in the place of good mdma. With that kind of market of who the hell knows, it makes sense that people would be tempted to try stuff that comes with a brand name on a shelf rather than playing pill roulette. I think the author goes over board pinning the shortage on one particular burning, but I think he is right about it opening the doors for meph to fill the void. People wanna get high. At least mdma had a long history of use and a pretty good safety profile when used responsibly.

No, the destruction being caused by the Ecstasy rings to the Cambodia/SouthEast Asian ecology should have everyone angry.

Wow, thank you for sharing. A very well-written article, and a valuable recap of recent drug history.

"Anti-drug douche"? I'd rather call him "sensible". I love my drugs, yet I too am very, very disgusted by the meph disease.

His level of understanding of these chemicals is far greater than any journalist I've seen as of late. He probably partakes. I wouldn't be so quick to call him "anti-drug". And what else would you have wanted to know about the chinese labs?

Anyway, I found this piece particularly fascinating, if not outright comical:

The Google Adsense programme, which automatically generates advertisements from keywords paid for by businesses, started adding links to online mephedrone shops at the end of online newspaper articles calling for it to be banned. Mephedrone and other legal highs received a vast, free boost with adverts paid for by the very organisations that wanted to ban them.

Just... wow...

And yes, at the end of the day, I think he implied exactly what was on my mind: Shulgin set out to create medicines and spiritual tools because that was his calling... and his results still never fail to fascinate.

"Eric" on the the other hand is popping out meph analogues like there's no tomorrow, and he has only one motive behind it: money. This will NOT end well.

Any one here think those Chineese labs produce drugs on par in quality with those of U.S./European pharmacutical drug labs?
Not the ones producing mephedrone certainly. There are of course many labs there, quality control ranges from on par with western pharma companies to that of a meth lab.

Care to guess which the one in the picture below more resembles?

Wow, these geniuses are keeping their lab in hideous condition and not even wearing safety glasses. Absolutely shameful. :|

The problem is that the only people willing to manufacture (and well equipped enough) any of these RCs in bulk are the chinese companies.

There are companies producing these things in India as well, though I don't imagine the quality control is any better.

Why would you even imagine for even a second that these people have any concern for purity/quality beyond that which effects production efficacy as well as the "snow white" appearance at the end?

Eric makes it clear that he views the death of Lois Waters and two British youngsters who had allegedly taken mephedrone as being a business inconvenience rather than a moral dilemma.

'They died in the UK,' he tells us in a rare display of earnestness. 'As a result UK customs have recently been very strict and lots of packages from China and India are stopped and seized. It is in the media and on the TV and a lot of our customers are worried. But we assure them there is no risk for them.'

It is ironic how the rawest, most stark forms of capitalism can be seen in no other than The People's Republic of China.
