Newbs also tend to use nitrogen-heavy fertilizers from start to finish which has a limiting effect on the bud yield. Once the plant has finished the vegetative (nitrogen-dependent) stage and starts making wood it's beneficial to cut back on the nitrogen and up the potassium. Potato E is one I use both in nutrient-banding the original plug and to top-dress with once the the plants have declared.

^Would you recommend the Potato E granules over a liquid bloom formula for plants in smallish pots? I imagine it would be heaps cheaper. It seems like its very strong (NPK 4-7-7) but I guess you just put on a tiny bit on once or twice instead of mixing and applying liquid ferts regularly.

So far the ones I have tried are Canadian Xpress Bloom for soil and BioCanna Flores. They both seem to work ok but are a bit pricey and are recommended for regular application which takes a bit of time and effort. To start out with I usually put them on at well under the recommended rate though.

Cannabis dominates drug seizure stats

Authorities seized an increased amount of illegal drugs in the last financial year, according to Australian Crime Commission data.

The Commission's Illicit Drug Data Report says there were almost 70,000 seizures in the 2010-11 financial year, the biggest number in a decade.

The report reveals cannabis remains the most dominant illicit drug in Australia when it comes to use, arrests and seizures.

Seventy-two per cent of seizures by number were of cannabis, while the drug accounted for 69.3 per cent of arrests.

"Amphetamine-type stimulants" were the next biggest group in the seizures data, accounting for 16.1 per cent of seizures by number.

Heroin accounted for 2.8 per cent of seizures while cocaine made up only 1.7 per cent.

Only cannabis and steroids reported an increase in arrests during 2010-11.

Home Affairs Minister Jason Clare says the report's findings do not mean drug use is on the rise.

No real surprises there, as the most used drug it makes sense it would be the most detected. Combine that with the fact its more bulky and smelly than most drugs and its fairly guaranteed to overshadow seizures of other drugs.

Anyone else on here like spotting/hot knifing their weed? I used to do it a bit a few years ago when I had a mate who was really into it, hadn't done it for a couple years until today. Forgot how nice the buzz is and you really taste your bud, its the nicest tasting way I can think of to smoke personally. To anyone who hasn't tried it I highly reccomend it. Another benefit is that you avoid smoking tobacco with your weed (which I generally mix whether I am smoking joints, hashies or a bong) so its healthier and easier on your lungs if you are sick like I am currently.

Had some "all organic" bud down here over the last week or so. Mindblowing indica. I've eaten more in the last week than in the last 4 years.

@justsayknow- potato e is geared to influence plant growth over time, but it also leaches salts as the nutrient is absorbed. Bog-standard pre-mixes in smallish pots will have had the guts washed out of them by the time you need the pot e. Can't speak for your soil mix, but the problem is one of volume. A well-constructed home brew including activated charcoal and wood ash helps keep things sweet around the roots and raw charcoal a few fingers deep helps filter and trap undissolved salts when watering in granulated fertilizers applied on top.

Also can't speak for branded/inorganic fertilizers too much as I stay as fully organic with the exception of pot e used smartly.

Ah I have used charcoal and ash before but I thought it was for potassium, now i see it has other benefits.
The biocanna is supposed to be organic the other one is mostly bio but has some inorganic npk added.
I've tried a few home brew potting mixes before but last time I went with a premade organic one from Greenlife
Its much easier to grow in the earth though that's my preferred method but I don't always have the luxury

^^ wood ash has an alkalizing affect in the soil mix that helps correct rich or acidic soils towards a female-friendly alkaline pH. Other than that it's fairly inert. Charcoal as a mulch is about as good as it gets and both these additives are easy to source.

Hey guys, just a quick question here. My mate does most of the buying for me these days but he was a bit naive and ended up buying a $25 bag of oregano off a "friend"...yes, he's an absolute idiot, but he's still my friend. :P (tasted alright to smoke too...) Anyway, our friend apologised and said he'll give us our real bag now, but we still don't trust him 100%. I'll be with my mate this time so I'll make sure we don't get screwed over but is there anything he could possibly do to the weed to rip us off somehow? I've read that some people spray the weed with fly spray to make it heavier? How would I tell if that was the case, extra stickyness I guess?
Basically, what are some ways this guy could do the dodgy on us again? Maybe half bud, half lavender or some crap like that...any ideas? Cheers guys.

^ People can spray water onto weed to add weight to it. Its a shitty thing to do but theres no doubt it happens. I guess there isn't any way to tell it was sprayed anymore than just not dried properly but if you get overly moist buds its a rip off either way.

The main adulterant in weed I would say is that gravox shit. A few mates of mine seem to get onto it semi regularly. Its pretty easy to tell this crap, little brown rocks fall off it (very easy to see if you place the buds onto a piece of white paper) and when you smoke it the ash rarely pulls through the cone properly.

The odds of getting weed thats been fucked with aren't particularly high in my experience, but if someone would sell oregano then there is really no telling what they would do for a buck. The number of ways to increase weight in bud is probably only limited by ones imagination.

I say find another dealer if your serious about smoking. These people aint worth your time anyway and to rely on these people long term to get ur buds off is pretty stupid. How low can someone go to rip another one off for a few bucks.

Smash your bong to pieces: Government's $400k anti-cannabis campaign

Smash your bong to pieces: Government's $400k anti-cannabis campaign

Drug users are being told to "grab a hammer and smash their bong to pieces" and go for a run when they feel the urge to smoke as part of the state government's new $400,000 anti-cannabis campaign.

The "Swap for Pot" campaign features a series of advertisements offering suggestions to encourage drug users to quit.

One advertisement simply features an image of sticky tape and a hammer, above the slogan "another two things you can swap for pot."

The fine print below advises drug users to "start off by writing a date to quit on a big piece of paper and then stick it to the fridge. Next, grab a hammer and smash your bong to pieces.

By getting rid of your bong, you will be less likely to be tempted to use - out of sight, out of mind."

Other suggestions include going for a run or cooking a meal to fight the urge to smoke.

Mental Health Minister Helen Morton said the campaign was the first quit campaign for cannabis to be launched in WA, and was inspired by the quit smoking campaign.

She defended the messages in the campaign, and said previous testing showed drug users responded positively to being encouraged to look at healthy alternatives to drug use.

"It could be any activity that gives people a sense of purpose, a sense of achievement and a sense of pleasure, and these are the things that people need to be looking at," she said.

West Australians are the heaviest cannabis users in the nation, behind the Northern Territory, and the proportion of cannabis smokers grew from 10.8 per cent to 13.4 per cent.

The advertisements are part of the "Cannabis Messes With Your Mind" campaign, which Ms Morton said proved extremely successful, particularly with young people.

"The program is very much around giving tips for people on how to quit cannabis, and substituting these other approaches for making use of their time," she said.

^ glad to see our tax dollars going towards some really insightful and useful propaganda.
it would be nice if these fools tried to give the kids some worthwhile drug education as opposed to insulting our intelligence.

go for a run? jesus h christ.
shit like that makes me wanna shoot smack, not go for a fucking run.
i reckon it "gives people a sense of purpose, a sense of achievement and a sense of pleasure".

cannabis messes with your mind? i dare say these people need their minds to be messed with; it might stimulate a fucking thought.

Opposition, Greens slam anti cannabis campaign

The State Opposition and the Greens have lashed out at the Government's new drug awareness campaign targeting teenage cannabis users.

Yesterday, the Government launched the, 'Swap for Pot' message to target 15 to 19 year old cannabis users as a part of the Drug Aware Campaign.

The Mental Health Minister Helen Morton encouraged users to "smash their bong".

However, the manager of Opposition Business Michelle Roberts doubts the new campaign will decrease the use of drugs.

"This campaign is bordering on farcical and trivial. It is too little too late. I don't think it will be effective with young people, I expect most people will make a joke of it," she said.

"Probably just a bit of smoke and mirrors to cover up the fact that this Government has been really weak in terms of their drug strategy."

The government plans to launch a series of advertisements to spread its anti-cannabis message.

The campaign is expected to cost $400,000.

The Greens spokeswoman for Youth Alison Xamon, says drug use among teenagers is a very complex issue that needs more detailed solutions.

"It really doesn't help if we are trying to tackle it with simplistic slogans," she said.

Ms Xamon says approaches to drug use should be based on clear, evidence-based thinking.

Ms Morton said yesterday the campaign was about providing alternatives to cannabis users.

"Getting some enjoyment and pleasure and happiness in the day other than using cannabis," she said.

"We want people to write and jot these ideas on the fridge, then go outside and get a hammer and smash their bong."

The Professor of Health Policy at Curtin University Mike Daube said the campaign would help generate a gradual shift in attitudes.

"I don't think that suddenly kids are going to rush off and do something else instantly, I think this is part of a long term program," he said.

"It won't get through to everybody, what campaign does?"

does anyone know the difference in quality in the kind of weed we get here in Australia and the top quality stuff they sell in amsterdam and in medical dispensaries

^I havent seen any data about thc content of cannabis in Australia and I dont think the police test it so its a bit hard to give an average level of thc for the Aussie stuff. I did see some data for New Zealand but not for here, if any one has any it would be great to see it.

But provided the genetics and growing conditions are the same the thc level would be the same here as in the Netherlands or California. Some of the weed over here is not as strong especially when the strain grown doesnt have high thc in its genetics but a lot of it is just as good.

Also the quality and strength of the product in the Netherlands varies greatly. You get some really really strong stuff and other stuff that is not so strong. Sometimes their outdoor stuff is very poor quality because they just dont have the right growing conditions. The strongest stuff I had there wasnt even a Dutch strain it was African...

It's no big secret that some Dutch vendors misrepresent/misname their wares and gullible (usually foreign) customers lap it up because most can't tell one named variety from another. Most will get ripped off their scones anyway and head home with stories to tell and few complaints about the quality of what they've consumed. Both sides part happy despite the con. Last year some mates and I bought a few menu items each from two of the bigger franchises and laid out side-by-side they appeared remarkably similar despite the different varieties we'd chosen. Don't get me wrong - our purchases ticked all the boxes re. freshness and presentation and certainly laid us all low, but it all seemed a bit too generic and lacking in the charateristics attributable to the varieties we paid for. On the other hand some smaller vendors with fewer customers and less variety to choose from seem more authentic and their product is of a superior order compared to the chainstores.

I didnt end up even buying anything in the big chain coffee shops ,the prices for everything were out of control. I agree that the smaller shops are a better prospect I got free samples in a few places and they can be flexible about the minimum weight of purchase. But mostly just a more relaxed vibe. The one small place that was a bit hectic was "the grey area" apparently they have some of the best dutch hash but I didnt get to find out there were so many people in there it was almost impossible to get served. At the time I was there the "cheese" varieties were really popular which was weird for me I like my weed to smell like weed not like parmesan.

I would say the main difference between weed in the Netherlands and Australia is the wide variety of strains available just for the simple fact that it is an open market. Most people over here wouldnt have access to that many different strains on any given weekend.

i split the last Quarter i bought into 3 bags about 6 weeks ago. Down to the final bag, i open it and find the smell is a bit foul. it still smells a bit like weed, but 80% of what i smell is pretty gross :(

i'm guessing this is mould, i've never seen it before. is it at all smokable? salvagable? will it make me sick?

im so peeved off. i wish i checked it before blazing up my last few smokes. hanging for a cone for Game of Thrones.
