The Bluelight 2.0.08 splash page discussion!

well since im the only logo submission ill make several different versions so you guys can at least vote on something.
 
LAYOUT

- Why reinvent the wheel? If people are happy with the layout why change it.
I will start a thread in Philosophy on the basis for debating boxes or squares[well i am just leaning towards rounded edges for those darn fugly box things]. Coz that really defines what the redesign will look like.

FONTS

- k let me preface this by saying that this is just a draft. I started working with fonts and grew irritated with the whole typesetting process. I dont have the patience to sit down and dl fonts for hours and figure out wtf to do with them. The CSS for the splash page would quite possibly be the most arcane thing ever created in the History of Man. I come from a quasi printmaking background among other stuff
and its all direct. With print media u dont have to worry about CSS compliance with W3C or other bs.

Anyways...why dont we use a set of standard fonts across all platforms? Does such a thing exist? Like is there a unicode or something process (?)

And then there is the PDA vs. Fat client debate....

as you can see i went with a completely different style for the logo. i believe it brings new presence to bluelight and sets the tone for a new improved website.

this is basically the beta version so i could get everyones initial ideas and thoughts. i'm totally up for a new type if chrissie wants to design one. i have a few other minor changes and actionscript add-ons to finish developing as well. for the site i recommend we redo the css (colors at least) and maybe a few other small graphics and possibly interactive features.

oh and yeah i want vpa back.

i like what you've done, but i feel like it needs to be more integrated with the rest of the page...there needs to be some unifying factor to make them flow together.

as i stated before this is just the beta logo and someone else needs to help with the layout / css. i dont have time to do it all especially when this thread is treated like the lost bastard foster child of bluelight.

bring vpa back if you really want to do it right.
 
I am still trying to figure out the in's and out's of the vBulletin template system. If I can't figure it out by the end of tomorrow I'm just going to forget it's editing system and start hacking the raw PHP.

In the meantime, I have made a couple basic layouts. You can check out the headers I have made for the layouts I am working on.
 
Welp, looks like this didn't work out. Thanks to everyone who gave it some consideration. Maybe we'll revisit this contest in the future. :)

do i even get a custom title? vpa back? a band full of drunken monkeys fighting for liberation in a third world country?
