Anybody familiar with Bluegrass &/or SEC football knows Rocky Top by The Osborne Brothers. As a Tennessean and UT alumnus, I'm kinda sick of that overplayed gem. However, I've always loved side B of that 45: Up This Hill and Down....

Found here from this video, I was not sure she could cover a Townes song then I saw her play & sing.

This is truly jaw-dropping stuff, I have seen all kinds of picking of a guitar etc but this Woman is something else.

I love this song, I was introduced to it by the Jerry Garcia/ David Grisman version, but I also love the version by Crooked Still. This is a very beautiful version I just heard

I'm always interested to see the roots that Appalachian music has in traditional Scots/Irish music. There is a long tradition of great songs that have corresponding versions in each. Because the songs got taught orally and passed on from generation to generation, they change a lot, which is pretty cool.
Anyhow, one song I love is "Black Jack Davey", about a girl who runs off with a Gypsy. The corresponding Irish version is "The Raggle Taggle Gypsy". Here are 2 versions,





and then you get the modernized Jack White version!
