Yesterday, we got a press release from the Warren County state's attorney's office about a pair of teens who were busted with 120 grams of pot that was shipped to them from California.

One part of the press release stuck out to me: "The cannabis has a street value of between $400 and $600."

That is approximately $4 a gram, which seemed kind of low to me.

So I called the Monmouth Police Department. They said an ounce sells for $60 to $120 in Monmouth, which is what they base their prices on. There are approximately 28 grams in one ounce, so roughly 4.3 ounces in 120 grams. Take 4.3 ounces times $120 and you get $516, or between $400 and $600.

Maybe that's how they do that there, but I've seen numerous articles where someone has gotten caught with multiple ounces (or more!) and the value that is given is based on a $20 gram. Not only is it a $20 gram, but then they multiply it out as if the who were caught were selling hundreds and hundreds of 20 bags but nothing else.

30 dollars a gram? that would be 12-ish GBP.

God damn, the pigs must either be smoking the worlds worst dog-shit brickweed, or I want their fucking dealer.

Yea I've read about stuff like that too where they seize like pounds and pounds of pot and then claim it's worth some ridiculous number that could only be true if it was sold in thousands of $20 bags, which would never be the case.

A friend was arrested with several ounces of weed, which he kept in a large glass mason jar.
They weighed the entire jar and said that that was the weight of the weed.
Fuckers:!

(Supposedly, the same goes for LSD and other drugs. So watch where you keep your acid, kids! Adding the weight of a glass jar to a ten-strip or a vial would make it seem much, much more serious to ignorant juries out there.)

That makes some sense since that's roughly how much it'll be sold for in the end, whereas this is just plain ignorant.

Most chronic is sold at a discounted price for larger amount, not to name prices but at least around here, 3.5 grams of chronic costs less then 20/gram. Most people I know who use chronic usually buy at least 1/8th of an ounce each time they buy. Also if the cannabis was low quality, 4 dollars per gram sounds far too high, especially with multiples ounces bought at once.
