The Big & Dandy 'Nausea and Psychedelics' Thread

good idea though right?? i hate eating boomers they taste like ass n usually end up throwing up in my mouth lol would much rather drink a shitty tea then trying to swallow a PBJ sandwich with schrooms on it.

Hey does anyone know the temperature that psilocybin/psilocin degrade at? im just wondering what is the ideal temp for the tea and is it just mushrooms+tap water?

Yeah just make a tea; that's what I always do. I use a french press coffee maker.

Holy shit, I've been thinking of ways to brew my tea all day, can't use the kitchen because not everyone in the house is down with mushroom use!

French press seems like a fantastic way of doing it!. Thank you very much roger for that tek! =D

I've read good teks for mushroom tea where you let the mushrooms simmer in the pot for awhile. The temperature can be hot, my guess from reading some teks that you shouldn't have the water boiling. If you boil water and then wait 30 sec to a minute and steep the tea it shouldn't do any harm.

This is my guess from reading a bunch of techniques that people claim work really well.

You can use tap water + mushrooms, but I see lots of people putting lemon juice into the mushrooms after they are grinded up. I believe this helps the water extract the alkaloids in the mushrooms.

Yeah, I usually take the water off right as it starts to boil then pour it into the french press. Then I grind my mushies, which takes a minute or so, and by the time I finish grinding the water seems to be a good temperature to make the tea.

for sure :) When I use my french press for coffee i usually add the grounds first :)

I take it it doesn't really matter what comes first, water or ground up mush, but I probably should wait 30 sec or a minute before pouring the once boiling water into the press =D

what about with everclear or something couldnt one just soak the mushrooms and have like a mushroom tincture?

The isolation of psilocybin seemed to be quite reasonable. This alkaloid is reasonably soluble in boiling water from which it can be nicely crystallized. It is less soluble in boiling methanol, and almost insoluble in boiling ethanol. And the extraction efficiency is optimum with methanol and almost as good with ethanol. With both, the less water present, the better. The compound is, after all, a perfect example of a zwitterion, the internal salt of a phosphoric acid and an amine base.

But the numbers with psilocin are strange. With aqueous ethanol, the optimum extraction was with a 70% ethanol concentration, and the extraction efficiency dropped almost to zero when there was no water present. But methanol was extremely inefficient regardless of the amount of water present in it. These researchers were apparently surprised by these findings, as they explored further and uncovered other clues.

Apparently ethanol isn't a good solvent for extracting psilocin and psilocybin. Water is apparently the way to go. If you go with ethanol, make sure its a 70% concentration; but be aware that it will probably take more mushroom material as it will be only psilocin that is extracted.

A methanol extraction and evaporation on dried powdered mushrooms can lead to a dish full of mostly active tryptamine crystals.

Well, I decided to use my french press to steep the mushrooms, and I did two 15 minute steeps.

Tea has been successfully chugged and its been about 5 minutes so far.

I'll give a good report tomorrow :)

thanks for all the input guys!

might it have more to do with oxygen in the water? possibly another chemical causing decomposition?

as far as boiling temp, im pretty sure that ive read somewhere that you can actually vaporize psilocin and get effects from it (strong effects, pure psilocin). this would mean that it dont break down, or if from heat, that its breadown product is active.

im guessing that its something eles causing decomp

if this is true i would keep the water acidic.
if we are to do any tests lets do tests on the pH at which it degrades IN boiling water. my theory is that anything over 7 will eat it up pretty quick.

i thought when psilocybin comes in contact with oxygen it oxidizes to psilocin. If this is correct than the oxygen in the water wouldn't be a problem right?

Mushroom tea seems to work best with water that's a bit below boiling - around 70C. Or just leave the kettle to cool for a couple of minutes after it's boiled, add to mushies, leave to steep for a few minutes, strain mushies, drink tea. Tastes a bit earthy but not as bad as munching on mushies. Never noticed it being weaker but as I've drunk the juice instead of munching the shrooms it would be hard to tell really. Certainly does the job though :)
