The Big & Dandy 'Nausea and Psychedelics' Thread

I would make the tea than if I was in your position. It produces alot less nausea than if you were to take the mushrooms whole. It kicks in really quick too like in half the amount of time it does when you just eat them. Try making a ginger tea or something as well or drink some ginger ale when your stomach starts to hurt. That should settle it a bit :)

Since extracting alkaloids via water, and not consuming the fungus matter, do you tend to need more substance as all the alkaloids don't get extracted?
IME, most alkaloids get into the tea after you steep & strain 2 times, the third one should be enough to ensure there's practically nothing active left within the fungi. So if you make 3 pulls, you shouldn't need any more mushrooms to start.

EDIT: You might be aware of this already, but I thought I'd mention it just in case. Some of the active alkaloids are somewhat heat sensitive (I forgot which it was, psilocybin or psilocin), so don't put the mushrooms in boiling water, let it cool down just a bit first (about 70 degrees celsius should be the appropriate temperature). Also, adding some lemon before you insert the shrooms is a good idea as it acidifies the water, which helps with the extraction process. Lemon also helps with the taste, and feel free to add some regular tea and sugar or honey as well to maximize enjoyment %)

And yes, adding some ginger into the mix can never hurt. :)

EDIT2: Another suggestion - if you're making tea from high dose of mushrooms, it might not be a good idea to start the drinking with the first cup as it contains the most alkaloids, and you might not be able to finish drinking cup 2 & 3 before you're catapulted into another dimension. Drink the cups in reverse order instead (starting with the last and finishing with the first).

thanks for the info, so if i bring water to a boiling point and let it sit for about 5 minutes would that be okay? or should i basically wait until its more in the sipping / small gulp stage of "temperature".

I'm assuming the tea doesn't taste so pleasent so adding some lemon juice sounds dandy. Also do people prefer putting one of their favorite tea bags into the mushroom tea, compared to nothing but lemon?

lol ginger ale sounds great even without an upset stomach :)

Yeah 5 minutes should should definitely be enough.

I've always used a tea bag as well, yes. Basically I do my usual routine of making a tea, with a tiny addition of steeping some fungal material in it as well :D

^^ You could try brewing a ginger teabag with your mushies to fight nausea more

edit: mint herbal teas I've also found to help settle my stomach on various 2c-x (can't comment on shrooms as they never give me nausea)

I've never experienced nausea before, I avoid this because:

1) when just consuming fresh or dry I always take a couple shots of Pepto before hand.

2) 70% of my experiences were made from a Tea

This is my recipe, if you care to give it a whirl:

Ingredients:

1 Lemon
1 Lime
Water
Honey
Brown Sugar
White Sugar
1/8 Dried Mushies

Stove
Microwave
Pot or Tea Kettle
large Tea Cup

First,
Chop julienne style or powder grind your Mushrooms (the more you take away from its solid state, the more it can absorb. Which also means can be more powerful, but this isn't proven...) However, if you enjoy eating Mushrooms (Which I sure do) then do not completely destroy your them and a fine chop will suffice.

Take your Tea Cup and depending on your taste add that amount of sugar to the empty cup.

Second,
Begin by Boiling water in the tea kettle (in a pot will do, but in a kettle it's easier to control the amount of liquid you're adding to your container). While you wait for the water to boil we can continue on by adding your shroom ingredients into the Tea Cup. Squeeze both the Lemon and Lime, fully into the Tea Cup.

Assuming the boiling was started around the same time the shrooms were added to the Lemon & Lime liquid, when your water is fully boiled it should be the perfect time to add the water to the Tea Cup. Now, If you don't think your Shrooms had at least a good 10-15 minute (longer for a more potent tea) soak in the Lemon & Lime concoction then DO NOT ADD THE WATER yet until you give it enough time.

Next,
Add the water to the tea. Usually around twice the amount of your Shrooms in boiling water is enough (Don't understand? Simply put, don't drown out your tea with too much water. Usually fill the water to the halfway mark of your Tea Cup)

Finally,
Stir while adding in your preferred amount of honey. Proceed by Microwaving on High for 30 seconds, and then re-stirring after you take it out. Lastly, cover the Tea Cup with either Aluminum Foil or the top to a pot (Basically, We want no heat escaping). Let sit for another 10-15 mins, again the longer you let it sit I feel the stronger the overall product is (However, this again isn't proven).

<3

End result is a great tasting tea, without having to use a separate tea bag. The Mushrooms taste nice, coated in honey too!

thanks for the tea recipe! just one question, anyone know if boiling water in fact destroys some alkaloids in mushrooms? Earlier on someone posted be careful with the water being too hot, but I also have no other proof besides that reply.

any input on temperature destroying alkaloids would be greatly appreciated =D

My problem is that I can no longer smoke weed, so "the best" method of subsiding nausea just isn't an option right now.

I wish I could smoke, but just can't risk it sorry.

Capsuled dried mushrooms cause less nausea than tea.

Care to explain the reasoning behind this? Not doubting you or anything, I'm just very curious why this is because I'm looking for the least amount of nausea during my mushroom experiences. :)

Couldn't tell you coleman, but whenever I take dried capsuled there's no nausea, but when I tried eating a little fresh in tea i noticed nausea.

I think laying down for the first couple of hours is a good idea too - that lessens the nausea.

okay thanks for the info, I think I'll give the tea a try, I'll add a ginger root tea bag in there to hopefully help with any nausea that I may experience. I also get a different type of nausea on the come up, as everything is just changing your fast and my body feels "weird".

fresh ginger!

if ur drinking tea, just chop some and put it in
tastes great and is a natural anti nausea tablet

if your just eating your shrooms, eat a mouthful of ginger as well, makes your breath and mouth all weird but will really help ya

thanks or the input, now I just have to find some fresh ginger root :)

Still wondering if anyone has input on hot temperature destroying alkaloids within the mushrooms (for mushroom tea). If it's easy for the alkaloids to be destroyed, I will need to take extra caution making sure the water isn't too hot before I steep.

Possible to extracy psilocybin from mushrooms?

Was blazing earlier 8) and came up with an idea.. im sure im not the first but give it a try anyway..
is it possible to extract the psilocybin from mushrooms into a liquid for drinking? sort of like what u do with poppy pods for tea? Boomer Tea :)
