The Big & Dandy Music on Dissociatives Thread

Ants is a cool track, I really like that album in general. The rest of edIT's stuff is kind of hit or miss, though, and The Glitch Mob as a whole don't sound nearly as good as the individual members' releases, in my opinion.

Kind of funny story...I was in a hotel room last year, bored, flipping channels and came across something on HBO which I eventually found out was one of the Step Up movies. I was watching for a few minutes, and then there was this ridiculous dance scene where some DJ just started playing "Ashtray" by edIT. It totally threw me off as I was not expecting that track to be in any movie, let alone Step Up 2 or whatever...

Unrelated to the above, Yellow Swans - I Woke Up is a favorite on dissociatives.
 
^ Yeah I don't really enjoy the rest of edIT's stuff I've listened too. I really like Ants tho.

I really enjoy Radiance and Presence by Surgeon, but I yet have to listen to them while on dissociatives.

A few artists I really loved listening to on MXE were Portishead (especially the "Third" album), Boards of Canada (best electronic music ever), JK Flesh (very heavy, dark electronic with super dissonant guitars as well, recent project of Justin Broadrick of Jesu/Godflesh), Jesu (perfect for any hallucinogen really, at least for my tastes, very pretty yet heavy, lots of texture & atmosphere), Electric Wizard (gets me in the zone), Chelsea Wolfe (lots of different textures, also dark & sad, dissos are great tools for cathartic experiences), My Bloody Valentine (perfect hallucinogen music, shit perfect for any drug really, evocative of dissos, psychedelics, opioids, cannabis all at once), to name a few.

i have never remembered to listen to this on dissocitives
but it's very good at reminding me of ket and dxm
how do you think could have she been experimenting with ket at the time this was made ?

Possibly, but it seems pretty unlikely since the track supposedly came out in 1964 and I think Ketamine was just developed/introduced around the same time (mid-60s). It seems like she would have had to have been on the forefront of using the drug recreationally (assuming by "experimenting" you do not mean medicinally/therapeutically), but I'm not really familiar with Delia Derbyshire or about when/how K got started being used that way.
 
Music on dissociatives is probably my favorite, so here a few that I always enjoy...

Cage and Tame One- They're always rapping about smoking PCP and other drugs and this is rap basically made for tripping on weird drugs like dissociatives so I highly recommend.

Just had to post here to say that I downloaded this a while back and I really really like it. I've never done 3-Meo-PCP (though I'm experienced with a few other dissociatives) but as a stand alone release I really enjoy it, proper dark and dissociated atmosphere and the beat is almost hypnotic... Haven't had chance to give it a listen whilst actually on dissociatives so far but definitely would like to. Cheers for the release!

As for music I like on dissociatives, I think some people here are a bit more hardcore with their dissociative use than me in terms of dosage and the "hole" as the desired end point (I find holing interesting but often find lower doses of dissociatives to be more enjoyable despite being less mind blowing, or even because they're less mindblowing), so not sure if people will have similar dissociating taste. I tend to like very bassy, atmospheric, sometimes ambient sounding music whilst tripping on dissociatives. I like darker and more minimal styles of dubstep and bass music in this state a lot such as Loefah, Digital Mystikz, Kryptic Minds, Burial, Om Unit etc, though I love this stuff whilst sober as well. Phaeleh is a producer whose music I love whether tripping on dissociatives or psychedelics, definitely worth a listen... Some more ambient type electronic music like Boards of Canada and Global Communication has served me well in the past, as well as older dance music like Orbital. One of my most intense experiences on dissociatives involved Diphenidine and A/T/O/S's self titled album on the Deep Medi music label, though that was probably more due to the high dose used... good album anyway.

as a suggestion today - has any one listened to nurse with wound? great for any drug but especially dissociatives.

Any of y'all heard of a guy named Isao Tomita? I've been listening to his "Bermuda Triangle" album every time I've done MXE of late, and it's.... Sublime. A must have for a MXE trip!

I couldn't find a full album of it on youtube, but there's a fantastic vinyl rip on a rather famous piracy site right now. Here's a song sample from the album:

I have. Strangely enough i heard it the first time when i did MXE. It was good; except i find MXE boring by itself so i "soiled" it with 10 mg of DOC: Turns out most music is really frightening with such a dose of DOC so i didn't listen to it for long... :D
 
Jesus, 10mg of DOC? I never even took that much when I was using DOC really often and had tolerance.

I do really like the MXE and DOC combination though, it's pretty great actually.
 
I agree with those who say that dissociatives make music sound too tinny, far-off, and strange to be normally enjoyable; however for some music this is actually a plus. James Ferraro circa Marble Surf, Clear, and Rerex comes to mind; the warbly lo-fi drones are little effected by MXE/what have you.
Also High Fashion Mood Music by Eyeliner is pure dis heaven. If there's anything better than ultra cheesy Korg Wavestation synth jams mastered as 96kbps mp3s (!) I don't know what it is. Sounds like the interior of a spa in 1992.
