The Big & Dandy HPPD Thread

I experience near-constant rippling and visual artifacts since consuming 65mg of 2C-E in mid-April of 2010. Prior to this, I'd consumed LSD and a wealth of other psychedelics with regularity, and I consider myself an experienced user.

2C-E is the only psychedelic I've had that I feel caused any kind of lasting psychedelic effect.

Explain your Hppd

Sometimes when im reading a trip report on erowid the letters seems to be moving up and down. Not sure if its the black and white or what but it seems only on that website.

Also when i was talking to my uncle the other day i could see an aura around his head radiating about 3 inches or so. It had a tint of green. Thought it could of been the opening of his heart chakra.

most of the time I have a static color haze around me during bright sunlight looking at the sky with things moving around everywhere in my field of vision, then at night time its more colorful...

on certain DXM swim finds the visuals at night whilst lying down turn to geometrical patterns of sorts...

sometimes I visualize auras around people but my HPPD isn't that bad, just mostly the static haze and whilst looking at a clear sky be it bright day, I see things, kind of like dust particles haha, moving around and flashes of light, black streaks etc... at night its just colorful everywhere

its weird to say, my HPPD is incredibly music related.
if i listen to alot of music that i've listened to hundreds if not thousands of times while tripping.
I will get shadow enhancements and color trails. Its quite interesting.

yet, next to that, the only real thing i've ever noticed is well twinkling air. But i always had that now that i really think about it. Except for the times when i was taking ADD medicine, as a kid.

I definitely get the letters wiggling on the screen. Occasionally it will happen on papar too, but it's definitely more prominent when reading on a computer. It happens most, IME, when there is a big chunk of text.

I get a static when I look at white walls thats about it, it usually only comes out when I get baked though, and in the dark I sometimes see patterns and what not form on walls

All 19 times I've done DMT I would listen to Shpongle and now everytime I listen to one of those songs I start to have a mild feeling of the similar effects, but its mostly subtle visual effects.

As for the feeling of being one wave unseparated from the ocean of existence that feeling comes on and off with meditation, reading, or listening to Terence McKenna.

Weed also brings back the effects for me right after a trip.

- Lots of floaters, usually against the sky or plain wall or just a well lit environment.

- I get the text morphing thing now and then, usually I'm real tired. I think it's the same as recognizing or thinking you see geometric patterns on the texture of whatever floor or surface you happen to be staring at.

- The "fireflies" effect against the day-time bright sky. They pulse in and out of one another, slowly then quickly, slowly then quickly. Also it seems like groups of 4 or so of the fireflies dance around each other, rather than a comprehensive mess.

- Some times when I turn a bright light OFF there is a strobe effect in the dark that takes several minutes to dissipate. This has gotten remarkably better over the years; it used to make me think I was going blind, but now I don't really even notice it.

- Of late, halos everywhere, mostly at nighttime. BIG ones:) Meh. It'll go away; I've had other hppd symptoms that have disappeared over the years.

I used to (but no longer) experience: color change, vertical and horizontal "dancing" of parallel lines, depersonalization, swelling of objects in the dark.

I have also never experienced tracers, (unless I'm tripping). I got lucky with that one I guess.

I believe that the BATES METHOD, used by such men as aldous huxley, and jiddu krishnamurti (my personal hero), can help with HPPD. I've been trying it only semi-seriously and it has had remarkable effects.

If you have a mac. The light in the front of the computer move it past your eyes in the dark and see if you see a light trail. I noticed it the other day when i went to put my computer away.

Fuckin get yourself some dissasociatives and have a some blinking colored lights and move around in a pitch black room, you'll be seeing some interesting trails and flashes

Has anyone had any improvement? I guess most people wouldn't be here if they had, however, surely someone has some good news. I used to have excellent vision, so much so I used to brag I have 20/10. While the eye doc still says I have great vision, its hard to see with all the other stuff going on.

I had this come on gradually after using 6-abp about 6 times. I had no other symptoms before that, but perhaps things in the past contributed as well, and it was a gradual decrease in function. I'd really like it to go away, its quite depressing, and sometimes I really beat myself up about it. I try and just remind myself that I have friends that are nearly blind. At least Im not blind, I just have to look through the afterimages, and patterns, and static and all that. The afterimages are the worst for me, and the static.

I first noticed minor after images after maybe the first time I used 6-apb, didn't put one and two together, and kept using it. Several times later, about a month after my last use, and full blown HPPD developed. I did everything I could to deny that this is what I have, looking into a million other possible causes. But unfortunately this is the only thing that fits.

This thread is really frightening.

I am unaware of any studies that show HPPD to be nearly this prevalent.

Anecdotes are definitely not statistics, but the number of people reporting lasting visual distortions is quite striking here.

Unsure what to think.

That's exactly how my HPPD works too, there's just brilliant multi-coloured static on everything but people, I find. It doesn't get in my way at all, it just is.

1) How many times have you tripped? ~180
2) Did you experience HPPD after a bad trip? No
3) On which substances did HPPD become apparent All of them, I've had this static since I started tripping first with DXM, and it gets worse/better based on how many psychedelics I do, but it never really goes away, and pot makes it more pronounced.

i have visual snow everywhere after 2C-I

its been 2 weeks

will it go away?

or am i stuck with it?

i've had perfect vision all my life this sucks!!!!!!!!!!!

1) how many trips - (prior to hppd onset): ~50
2) after a bad trip? not exactly. It was months after I'd stopped tripping, but I did have one very weak (60ug?) LSD trip that ended up just being an unpleasant feeling shortly before onset (1999).
3) which drugs? LSD

This thread is really frightening.

Actually, several people have shown demonstrable visual degradation in virtually everyone who's taken LSD, here's one of them:

HPPD drove me bonkers for a few months and then I somehow stopped thinking about it. The best advice I have is, don't read about HPPD.

It is. Many things listed in this thread are completely normal. For example:

Those tiny dots are called floaters.

chupp ever since ive did acid and 2ce i see those tiny ass dots everywhere and also if i move my hand across my face fast or slow, theres always a stream following itt... if you did cid more than 5 times do it now u know what i meann

Wow - I am leaning towards never doing LSD again.

Thankfully 4-substituted tryptamines seem to have no such side-effects.

if you did cid more than 5 times do it now u know what i meann

Uh, no? :D I'm not quite fond of LSD anyways, I tend to trip quite infrequently as well, so not much chance of that occuring, sorry.

HPPD is real, I'm not discounting anyone's (visual) experiences, in fact, I've slightly changed my opinion of it's prevalency amongst psychedelic users. But still, lot's of people do not have HPPD here, try abstaining from drugs before you diagnose yourself with HPPD for one (not per se directed at you mac). And liking "HPPD" or not being distressed by it? I don't know if I would consider that HPPD.

Here's some more links to educate yourself on the topic of HPPD before you claim to actually have it:

This is a good quote from the wikipedia link above:
It must be emphasized that individuals without HPPD will sometimes notice visual abnormalities. These include floaters (material floating in the eye fluid that appears as black/dark objects floating in front of the eyes and are particularly visible when looking at the bright sky or on a white wall) and the white blood cells of the retinal blood vessels (seen as tiny, fast-moving and quickly disappearing white specks). Likewise, bright lights in an otherwise dark environment may generate trails and halos. Most people don't notice these effects, because they are so used to them. A person fearful of having acquired HPPD may be much more conscious about any visual disturbance, including those that are normal.
