Harvesting MG seeds.
Fair question. I planted a number of them (MG/Heavenly Blue) in the garden around May/June. Unfortunately it would seem that I planted them to close to each other as they've been more than shy in showing their colours. So far I've had nine (count them, 9!) flowers trumpet, shine brightly then fade. This out of 20+ vines, for goodness sake. The garden is filled with the plant...no flowers. (as a side note I did have success in extracting from the plant matter). What I've been doing is, when the flower is fading, tie a piece of string loosely round it so I can find where the seed pod will come later with ease.
All the pictures I've found on the net make them look rather noticeable compared to the rest of the plant so I believe it will be a case of just getting stuck in and stripping through the 'dead wood'.
Erowid: "Morning glory seeds are found in seed pods which form on the plant where a pollinated flower once was. These can be produced any time in the year after flowers have formed. Watch your plant and when you see a flower fall off, remember the spot where it was. Keep your eye on that spot and in a few days or weeks, you'll see a pod form. When it's mature, it can be picked and dried. Eventually it will open and release the seeds."
I can no longer find the seeds on sale in my local stores here. Only one chain seemed to stock the 'good ones' and once they ran out (read: I bought/blagged them all) no more have been forth coming, so I'm really holding out for my garden.
Out of interest, has anyone had any experience with eating/making tea/wine from the flowers of MG?
