The Big and Senseless Mass Shooting Thread

@ nutty I don't believe that's their (main) intended function.

That's sort of my whole point. A dildo isn't going to stop a potential mass shooter unless somehow you're able to take their gun away and sodomize them with it. I don't see how a law permitting concealed carry for students is going to make any difference in anything other than increasing the likelihood of a better outcome should there be a mass shooting attempt. It's certainly not going to make any difference for any bad guys with guns because they're notorious for not really caring about signs or laws.

Its a protest. No one is trying to sodomize would-be gunmen. Im not really understanding the confusion?

Besides, guns dont kill people etc etc. If its the person who has the sole ability to kill, rather than the weapon, then logic dictates dildos are just as deadly as firearms.

^ it's worse than that. it draws attention to the bizarre world we live in where it's ok to take a gun to school but not a dildo...

Well equating gun ownership with increased violence is pretty much wrong.

Just take a look at Switzerland and Norway.

Then take a look at their social mobility and equity.

Kind of makes you wonder why The US is closer to developing Latin American countries instead of Europe in terms of murder statistics, dunnit?

I think cars should be banned or at least severely restricted... And while we're at it probably anything sharp and pointy.

Suspect in deadly Oklahoma State University crash charged with second-degree murder

BY Nicole Hensley NEW YORK DAILY NEWS Updated: Monday, October 26, 2015, 12:06 AM

The driver accused of plowing into the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade has been charged with four counts of second-degree murder.

Adacia Chambers, 25, smashed into a crowd of unsuspecting spectators in her Hyundai Elantra Saturday morning while under the influence — killing four people, authorities have alleged.

Blood samples taken shortly after Chambers’ arrest will determine her alcohol toxicology at the time of the deadly collision, though witnesses have suggested she was distraught from losing her job — not drunk.

Chambers was reportedly fired from her part-time job at Stillwater's Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, leaving the fast food franchise in tears a half hour before the crash, witness Justin Denoya told the Stillwater News Press.

“She didn’t appear to be under the influence," Denoya said. “She was walking in a straight line and didn’t seem intoxicated.”

The suspect’s attorney, Tony Coleman, contends Chambers was by no means drunk. He smelled no trace of booze on Chambers during a jailhouse visit and did not believe the young woman to be in a “drunken stupor.”

“I absolutely can rule out alcohol,” Coleman added.

He suggested Chambers may have a "mental illness" or "blacked out," a medical condition that only added to her confusion after the crash. She only remembers being taken out of her wrecked vehicle.

A photo of Chambers' arrest at the scene shows her still wearing her black Freddy's T-shirt.

“She doesn’t remember a whole lot about what happened. There was a period where I think ... she could have even blacked out,” Coleman said.

Chambers was initially charged with driving under the influence, but police have not released any detail about her alleged intoxication.

Chambers' father, Floyd Chambers, fears his normally “timid” daughter will now be portrayed as “a horrible person.”

“This is just not who she is,” he told the Oklahoman.

He has never known Chambers to be “an alcoholic.”

“My heart goes out to those people and all of them who are injured. It’s just a bad thing. I know this isn’t something that she would have done deliberately I know that she’s not that person," Chambers added.

Chambers SUV struck an unoccupied police motorcycle before slamming into the crowds at an intersection only half a mile from her former employer.

The crash happened a half hour after Chambers left her old job overwhelmed by emotions, witnesses said. What she did in the half hour before the 10:30 a.m. crash remains unclear.

The custard joint’s management painted Chambers as “an excellent employee,” but would not explain why she lost her job Saturday morning.

“She was always on time,” franchise owner Mark Thompson told the Press. “I have nothing to say about her that isn’t good. She has been an excellent employee.”

Yeah, i would like to see cars drastically restricted in urban areas where this is feasible.
As for banning things that are sharp, you might be onto something.
But who would you direct your righteous indignation at, if all the sharp ones weren't around? ;)

I don't know about your state, but in mine, a vehicle has to be registered, the operator deemed capable of using it, insured, license to use one is necessary. Besides, how often are cars used as weapons compared to other means of death?

Hell, stairs can be dangerous too.

I think cars should be banned or at least severely restricted... And while we're at it probably anything sharp and pointy.
you think that it's appropriate to compare guns to cars as deadly weapons?

i totally agree. so, you'll definitely agree with me that:

  • to own a gun, you should be required to get a learner permit and, subsequently, pass a test to get your license. just like driving
  • the license will have to be renewed regularly. just like driving
  • different weapons will require different types of licenses (e.g. semi-auto weapons will require a different license). just like driving
  • if you own a gun, you will be required to carry insurance. just like driving
  • your weapons will require regular safety testing. just like driving
  • your weapons will have to be registered. just like driving
  • registration will have to be renewed regularly. just like driving
  • your ammunition will be taxed very heavily. just like (the gas you use when) driving
  • etc.
we agree on these, right, nutty? because guns are just like cars so we should treat them just like cars.

To acquire a gun legally you do have to register it and have your fingerprints taken. But I think you guys are missing my point.
