Reading PIHKAL right now, and it gets mentioned that taking a mescaline dose slowly (drinking the tea over, say, 30 minutes for this example) drastically reduces the nausea.
I totally agree, and I should have mentioned this. Suck your cactus slime in stages, interspersed with shots of orange juice. Your stomach will thank you! However, to decrease nausea and the risk of vomiting out the juice, perhaps don't whammo! but just try to sip it and chase it with something gentle yet strongly flavoured.

swilow The perenial question....how do I drink this fucking horrible shit that will lead to a wonderful headspace? I would let it slow-boil down some more until you have a very small quanity of liquid, cool it dramtically and whammo! That straw method sounds good in more ways then one. However, to decrease nausea and the risk of vomiting out the juice, perhaps don't whammo! but just try to sip it and chase it with something gentle yet strongly flavoured.
I've thought about chewing a small strip of raw, dried cactus to coat my mouth with the extreme horribleness and then drinking the liquid; kind of aclimatising my taste buds for what is to come.

First of all if you make it with just the green outer flesh of the cacti, instead of the entire plant it tastes better IMO. When I made tea using the entire cacti I was left with much more tea that tasted worse than if I had just used the green flesh.
Once you've got your brew reduced to a drinkable ammount (z depending on many variables)
Take some sour candy (or lemon, lime, grapefruit juice works too...anything really tart/sour) and tip back the glass and drink as much as you can. Immediately chase the cacti tea with something sour/tart. Wait about 15-20 minutes try again.
It takes a long time to come up, so be patient. It'll take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours to be really feeling it, so that means you have like 2 hours to finish your glass. And smoking weed totally helps with the stomach aches and IME got me WAYYYYYY higher.
I think people make san pedro out like it's the nastiest thing in the world to drink. I've probably made and drank quite a few gallons of the stuff over the past year and the two things that are truly nasty are the sliminess and the bitterness. But once you get it down and hold it down your in for a treat.
