I was always partial to their short 8 song EP/ album "Heaven & Hell"

Dio did good things for Black Sabbath imo.

It's fine - I'm too young to have grown up with the music, and changed with it, so I just look at it all objectively. I'm not a purist in that only the first 4 Metallica albums are "real" but I'll admit there's MAYBE an album or two worth of good music released after Burton passed away...

Oh, and 12 more posts until I'm @ 888 - a number I was infatuated with as a youth. Crazy shit...

Yeah I was about to say, Randy Rhoads = God.

But, as I say that, Children of the Grave starts playing, and I then remember that Tony Iommi = God. See here for example. The guitarist that helped invent heavy metal. Un-fucking-top-able.

Tony Iommi was a god for playing guitar devoid of real finger tips on his fretting hand, gave him his unique tone IMO.

In all seriousness though, Mr. Crowley, Paranoid the live version, Crazy Train. Just some pure bad ass Randy right there.

Zakk Wylde was never the right sound either.

Agreed. Randy Rhoads just had an amazing talent. Iommi injuring his hand in an industrial (metal) accident on his last day at the job at the (metal) factory...and causing him to lose his finger tips, which he compensated for by down-tuning his guitar (to make it less painful to play the metal strings), and Geezer down-tuning his bass even more to match Iommi's decidedly metal-sounding tone gave Black Sabbath their signature "sludge" sound.

It was this action of down-tuning that every single heavy metal guitarist has copied since. Oh, did I mention that it is metal?

Actually when it all comes down to it this IS metal.

True Doug, I have a way with doctors on the Benzodiazepine front. I guess when they look at my history they think scripting me a smaller amount of anything is fine no questions asked.

THIS. IS. SPINAL. TAP.

Carbon composite? I dunno man, my car is Built Ford Tough. No composite pussy shit for me, just steel and plastic and rubber and glass.
