The Angry Thread: Debt Until Death...

Don't bother to read this it's TL;DR I know.

One of those days. Off work which is great but woke up at 6am and was wide awake (can't get out of bed when I've got work!), phoned doctors at 8 till 8:30am to get an appointment for my hayfever and vertigo, only appointment was at 8:55am, that's when I left the house and then got on the wrong bus in my haste and ended up nowhere near the docs.

Get there late, get moaned at from the receptionist (why the fuck does she care) then the doctor for being late (try having some more appointments free than 25mins after you open in the morning), gives me nothing for my hayfever bar a suggestion to try some nasal spray as well as my antihistamines and when I tell her last year the vertigo symptoms ceased after getting my waxy ears syringed she looks in my ears (which have been waxy as fuck recently) and tells me they aren't waxy and don't need syringed. They are waxy I've chunks of wax falling out them every morning. She refuses to get me an appointment with the nurse to get them syringed so I've got no help for my vertigo and no possible alternative or checks to see what can be causing it. Waste of time.

Go get a haircut, specifically tell the guy I just want a trim and tidy up, he starts talking about a number 5 all over. I tell him he can shave the back n sides but use scissors on the top....he didn't use scissors once. Before I even realised what he was doing he's shaving all my hair off. Took him about 3 minutes in total to cut my hair, ended up with a boooooya military cut. Horrible.

Go to get money from the bank, declined due to insufficient funds. Bollox, plenty of money in there. Come home, check my online banking, should have about £1k thats withdrawable in there. Call Nationwide who tell me my overdraft was dropped from £1.5k to £250 this week. I had phoned them last week and we'd agreed they'd drop it £210 per month for 6 months until it's down to £250. Seems they just ignored that conversation. Now I've no money and no way to access any.

What next? :|

They must think you're going to do a runner with all that travelling abroad. Can't blame em for not trusting you ;).

Lots of Ozzie's and Kiwi's used to do that rake up a massive debt then fuck off home.
Or the lend 5k from the bank and repay it twice then lend more then 5k and fuck off trick.

i dunno maybe your phone could break , but that would be careless.

maybe not as careless as leaving oneselve financialy fuked but hey .

Financially fucked? My finances are fine, in much less debt than everyone I know. Also the only person I know who's actually got money to do things like go travelling all over the world when everyone else just has enough to pay the bills and get a trip to the pub at the weekend.

That sounds like a shite morning Spade.

Pro tip: if you want your ears syringed, tell 'em your hearing is going. Even though I KNOW (and have tests and everything to show it) that I have hearing loss, if I mention it to doctors, they immediately check for wax.

She did ask me if my hearing was affected but I said I wasn't sure. My hearing hasn't been great for years and I don't think it got any better after the last syringing...the ear ringing, pressured feeling, build up of wax and off balanceness all dissapeared though.

I save £600 a month from my miserly £800 wages which is I think is pretty good, all of it going towards me leaving the country at the end of the year. A wee overdraft and a credit card is pretty standard and nothing to worry about, plenty of folk I know are in debt well over £20k for cars, houses, their wedding costs etc. Fuck that you literally are fucked for life.

spade a house or a car offers you some protection and if you pay your mortgage and have the nous to get a good deal you wont find your mortgage lender suddenly calling in 4/5 of the debt. if someone does what happened to you to your mates with assets on their overdraft, they can just borrow the money against that. any of your mates with houses/cars could sell it immediately and go travelling, so they do have the money, they just choose to use it differently. as they are probably staying in the same jobs for long periods of time, they're more likely to get promoted etc. on a call center job you are fucked for life with 20k debt but its only 3 or 4 rungs up the ladder (i have friends who've climbed further over 5 years) and suddenly 20k debt isn't too bad in comparison to your income.

you do not need to look down on others lifestyles to validate your own, fundamentally less sustainable, lifestyle. just be happy with your choices.

think i'll do it tother way round, get my security first then go gallivanting. if i chose to i could probably retire in 20 years and lead a 5 star lifestyle, but the people who would enable me to do that aren't nice people.

No you don't.

Well the fact that I've travelled Europe, been to Australia twice, travelled all over SE Asia and a good chunk of South America all in the past 2.5 years says differently like. :\

Protection? Does it bollocks, it offers debt until death. I could have borrowed money to pay off my overdraft too but I chose not to, I'd rather just pay it off and be done with it. People with houses and cars rarely ever sell it up though do they, they get fixated with having a bigger house, a better car, taking out more finance to fund it. I'm not gonna be taking out anymore debt, I'm gonna pay it off bit by bit over the next few years whilst also spending money on travelling whilst most people I know will just get in more debt.

I don't want to stay in ANY job for a long period of time, I don't want promoted it means more pointless responsibilities for a few extra quid a month I'd rather have NO responsibilities or as little as possible. I don't have anywhere near £20k in debt. I'll have my £1.5k overdraft paid off this month and will have just £5k in debt which will get paid off over the next few years.

My lifestyle is plenty sustainable, work - save - travel - work - save - travel. Perfectly reasonable.

as long as your mums about to allow you to live at hers rent free, it is sustainable. if that option dries up, its not. also, staying in jobs for short periods then disappearing isn't necessarily sustainable either, as employers don't want to fork out on training someone who'll work for a few months then disappear. so you'll end up with only the most menial, low paying jobs.

i really like the fact that you do your own thing spade, doing your own thing is one of the qualities i most appreciate in people, but i don't think you need to be so negative about others lifestyle choices. and yes, i agree most people get fixated on the next big thing rather than cashing in their assets. this is not a fact about the assets themselves, but the people who own them.

(and no, i don't have a house, or a car and think in general materialism is stupid)

i know their generation had it easier, but none of my parents friends are still in debt from their mortgages/cars. so it didn't saddle them with debt for life and now they own the roof over their heads, which i'd say is really something.
