US Politics the 2025 trump presidency thread

Yea quite the diplomat too. Thoroughly alienated our allies (DIRECTLY ON BOTH BORDERS) and united our 'enemies'. Can anybody name a country that is a "Sure ally" at this point? (I assume so but it is worth asking)

Jen x-- YES HE IS TALKING ABOUT A THIRD TERM. So is Bannon and Vance and his whole team of lackies; also talking about running Eric. (Historically this is near when a revolution or a dictatorship (Dynasty?) -- I feel like they tried this with the Bush family. (Al gore did not protesteth much than became even more uber reach *substantially*). Didn't his brother Jeb (gov of FL for context) confirm him when things were kinda up in the air? A family line of gluttons that as long as kept happy will gladly throw us all to the wolves. --- ONLY A TRUE PSYCHO WOULD EVEN BE TALKING ABOUT A THIRD TERM (That is reality) -- What are we going to do about it? (also reality). Saw a T-shirt that boils it down well "They want 1929 germany lets give them 1786 france"

(Knew I shoulda bought gold in october lol) I would also like to point out no democrat has ever became president without the popular vote. The last 2 republican presidents entered on electorate but NOT popular vote; anyone that knows anything knows the incumbant (see i cant spell the word i still know) holds a clear advantage. (An advantage democrats kneecapped themself with by pushing Kamala forward). --- That debate was horrible yes but I will take old and feeble over old and evil all day. Not that Kamala wasn't good enough.

America is either A. Very Very Stupid
or B: We are the bad guys/evil empire.

What do our non americans (especially) think we fall or are you seeing a C?
The Kennedys tried it, the Clintons ("my turn" -Hillary) tried it. I'd say dynasties have a tradition in the US. Just saying.

I just watched trump and the el Salvador prime minister talk about returning the guy that was sent accidentally and the court ordered trump to facilitate the return.
Trump basically said there's nothing he could do and the el Salvador guy is now calling the guy a terrorist. He's legally in the USA and they are leaving him there.
Be nice to see how much money the el Salvador guy is getting.

If I was not white(especially Latino folks)and living in the USA I would be terrified. You can be sent to one of the worst prisons in the world by mistake and left there. That's so crazy it's sounds unbelievable.
Trudeau looks like a genius in comparison.

I take your point and it is valid. BUTT this is a whole other level of shoving it down our throats and that should be noted. (as mentioned appntd by your brother despite losing popular vote: next level shit). Taking the presidency without popular vote is pretty controversial as it is. DENYING YOU LOST THE ELECTION AND HAVING A FULL ON COUP (IMO). The bullshit, 6 ft 3 225 lbs (as jon stewart pointed out, cmon now we can see) the ass kissery. The lack of consequence. This represents a fundamental change. No talk of third terms or denying election results (despite them being MUCH SKETCHIER than the biden election, OBJECTIVELY)

Anyone with a half a brain is terrorized. Moreso if you are latino I am sure. I am Irish white but was born in NM and (last trump administration) had my citizenship challenged. (Which is insane considering NM is a damn state) received a letter that I had already missed my court hearing. (First I heard of it) --- and when I called my dmv 'agent' or w/e that set this into motion, like 6 times a day --- he answered like this "You need to quit calling my phone so much this was a simple paperwork error" -- "You need to clear this TF up my guy how dare you be so ignorant to think NM was Mexico set a ball in motion on me than be pissed your phone is ringing! (you see where those paperwork errors land you btw)

Yikes! Of this is true it's absolutely disgusting.

I wonder if Kamala would've been defying Supreme Court orders and plunging the country into another constitutional crisis?

Another L for the Trump/Harris "no big diff" crowd.

Oh I fully agree. This is a coup.

congratulations to president trump on breaking a record today. and it's one of his own!

the worst net approval among independent voters in history was achieved by trump in 2017 (-16%). today he broke that record with a historic -22%! (source).

drilling down in to the numbers, his net approval on the economy among independents, in january, was +1%.

today, he's at -29%, literally the worst ever, at this point in a term, for any president.

a round of applause for this record-breaking achievement! 👏

I thought I saw 6 million somewhere but I can't remember where.

Don't worry, he said he wants to be able to deport "homegrowns" also.

Sorry this wasn’t it and this was an insult on the American ppl and they straight up handed it to Trump on a silver platter. No way I’m fuck this guy that couldn’t even finish a sentence should’ve been anywhere near the presidency. Yes Trump is evil but voters don’t know that….they do know when someone has literal brain damage

because the justice department is no longer independent.

because the supreme court is no longer independent.

because the republicans in congress care more about power than principles.

and a lot of what tryptakid said.

Sorry none of this big entities are the ultimate problem.

The biggest problem is that half the country approves of the eradication of democracy and the approval of authoritarianism to fulfill their Christian prophecy.

This is a holy war to them. The US doesn’t matter, justice doesn’t matter. Lives don’t matter. The prophecy is what matters. The end times and the battle against Satan is what matters.

most of our neighbors are lost in a giant religious death cult lusting for death and a holy battle.

There is no compromise. They are on gods side and doing gods will. Zero compromise with that.

I don’t think secular / left wing people actually realize what they are up against here and they are not taking any action to stand up to it. Cheering for AOC at a rally? That ain’t it. That ain’t gonna cut it.

The next elections are completely rigged already. They will. It be won even if democrats vote in a landslide. The question is: will democrats accept that obviously rigged election loss? I think they will. We are cowards. We will live under Christian theocratic rule as Iran once lost its secular way of life to these abrahamic religions and look what Iran is now. The US is not special and history will repeat itself as it did in iran . Authoritarian theocracies always take power especially in ultra religious societies like America.

I really don’t think ppl realize how serious this is and the extent of action it will take to stop it.

This isn’t about Trump, the courts and congress being compromised…..this is about the sentiments amon the most represented of US Citizens favoring all of this. This is what the majority of America wants. They won’t go against their religion. The church owns their political ideology and they will listen to what their church says, the lake of fire is their only other option right?

They're not real Christians tho, they're pseudo Christians. They certainly aren't following the teachings of Jesus. As far as anything else I wouldn't give up hope yet. Trump's approval rating is far from great and there's plenty of outrage and protests. He's already had 2 assassination attempts. I think the worse things get the more action people are willing to take. I think it's still fairly early yet despite all of the damage that's already done. I would agree it's already at critical mass tho.

Seeing the complete inhumanity from neighbors in Maryland as the president disregards due process and basic constitutional rights, is pretty damn gross tbh. The executive branch is disappearing people who are here legally and rounding them up to be held captive by a foreign country, for expressing contrary political opinions, or simply being suspected of being a gang member. That's unacceptable at the end of the day, and a flagrant disregard of the Constitution.

Yet we're still going to have to listen to Musk and other conservatives cry about cancel culture or wokeness, all while entire portions of the Bill of Rights are being torn apart before our eyes with their vocal support. Most of the Democrats aren't willing to do anything about any of this, as has always been the case.

Chris Van Hollen, a senator from Maryland, is going to El Salvador himself to lobby for the release of the wrongfully deported man. That's commendable imo, most others, won't go these lengths.

Trump is dangerous, and the fascistic death knell he's inspiring is not going to end well for any of us.

I hope there is not another assassination attempt. I think it would just make things worse if that happened.

Iran's history warrants its own thread tbh. This "secular system" was a tyranny and it is the first example of "regime change" by the US in the Middle East. People were by no means free, especially the Muslim population was oppressed by the regime. It was forbidden to wear a head scarf for example. Yes, young students were allowed to wear mini skirts. This kind of lifestyle had huge opposition in the population - they were forced to endure Western moral values. A religious-conservative population. "Bringing freedom" to countries in the Middle East has never worked. Not one single time. And the Western led coup in Persia was arguably the start of Americas "perpetual war" in that region. We feel the consequences of that till today.

Back to Persia's oppression of its population. Eventually big parts of society were so fed up that there was an uprising. Everybody started to wear head scarfs. Even the Christian and Jewish women. This was not some sort of Muslim coup. It had *broad* support in the population. When Ayatollah Khamenei returned he was greeted like a Beatle.

Was there freedom if the population wasn't allowed to practice their religion? If they were forced to dress or not dress in certain ways?

Not disagreeing with your points btw

No. They just erected puppet regimes that were loyal to the US. The same thing happened in Iraq. The problem wasn't just that they de facto set up a dictatorship in those countries but that the US didn't understand the mentalities, structures and dynamics from a cultural area completely different from their own bubble in Washington, nor do they care to understand them.

For example even if you would be bringing a true democracy to a Muslim dominated population in the ME, the chance is big that most of them will simply vote for a religious party which then would be dismantling the democratic system in favor of a theocracy. Secular democracy is largely an alien concept in the Middle East. The only example where it actually worked was Turkey.

The first takeaway we can learn from Turkey is that democracy in the Middle East cannot be "brought" by external powers. Democratic change should come from within the country, made from people who know which changes work and which ones wont. The second takeaway is that even well meaning intervention can bring an existing democracy to its knees. The Europeans did not understand the structures in Turkey either. They for example demanded from Erdogan to weaken his military. It was seen as too powerful.

The military in Turkey has pretty much the role of being guardians of the constitution. Once a politician goes crazy and tries to dismantle the system the military would storm in, do a coup and after a while when things had settled down they would hold new elections. For the EU this mechanism was unacceptable for a candidate that wanted to join. So long story short, Erdogan happily crippled his military and when they tried to stop him they lost the struggle thanks to EU interventionism.

Sorry for the wall of text but its a complex topic.

Donald Trump Impeachment Resolution Issued in Texas

Texas congressman promises articles of impeachment against Donald Trump within 30 days

They need to do this! Who really piss me off is the GOP because they KNOW how wrong this all is! They are such cowards.

Young men and boys gave their lives for us to have our democracy and freedom from tyranny and these cowards are afraid they won't be re-elected so they pretend to go along with it. Disgusting!

If they had all done their jobs the first time he was impeached and removed him from office we wouldn't all be in this spot now. And the crazy part is that it's not what any of them want either. They are going to have less and less power as he takes more.
